| About Me: | I've graduated from high school in spring 2004. I tried to get in the law university straight away but, as there are even thousands of triers each year, I didn’t make it there and pass the entrance examination at the first try. At the moment I’m working as a customer service counsellor and in a switchboard and studying languages for a hobby. I enjoy and love learning languages. I’ve studied several languagesby now. Finnish is my native language and English I started when I was nine years old. I'm going to start the studies in the Finnish Business School in fall. It'll bring me a business degree that'll be very useful for my career and future. One might wonder however I would have time for anything else if I work and study but I do rather easily. These things go very much mostly how you arrange your own schedule. I'm a very systematic and well-organized personality, so I've never found it hard to have time for everything what I'm willing to do. I’m as fluent with English as a non-native speaker can be and I use it daily. I’ve studied and used it for so long that it’s almost like my second ”first language” by now if I can put it in that way. I’ve also studied English and linguistics at the university level even if I’ve not been to the university officially. Swedish I know because it’s the second official language in Finland and everyone has to study it in school, so I’ve gotten a seven-year-long education of it. I took the basic course of German and French in high school and I have studied more French after high school. I’ve also studied Spanish. I have studied the basics of Russian, Chinese, and Arabic just to discover and get the impression of what the languages are like. I live in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and I’m 24 years old. I have one brother and two sisters, I’m the eldest. I have a two-year-old cat who I dote on. He’s my little sweetheart and he was really wanted when he moved in here. I had wanted a cat for many years and finally I had a chance to have one. Garfield is a wild and curious cat who fears nothing. He’s been to many places with me. It’s nice to take him around because he doesn’t shun any people or places, old or new. I live at home at the moment with my brother and mother but I’m going to buy my own apartment within a year. I have several hobbies and even more interests. If I listed the briefly, a few of them are music, reading, writing, computers, Internet, some sports like jogging and swimming, languages, history, cultures, psychology, learning new things in general... I could write a list of ten pages of them if I just dared to start. As it already came up, I’m basically always up to a lot. I’m an active person and always ready to try new things and very curious about just everything. I sing, play piano and a bit guitar but basically I do it just for fun and for myself. Music is a very big part in my life and I consider myself musical. I enjoy listening to all sorts of music but what I’m mostly listening to are older rock, some pop, classical, techno and trance. I also have a website. I am not someone who would be a member in several social networks like this site is below but I’m a member of Multiply. One network is fine to me and it takes enough of my time. I’ve tried MySpace, Facebook, Hi5, and whatever there are available, but they haven’t been too impressive. I rather focus on one site properly than have tens of pages and no time for any of them. Multiply offers and gives me what I want to do in a social network and it’s just fine. There are a lot of pictures, blog entries, and other stuff, just if you want to have a peek. It’s part of this introduction, let’s say. I'm a regular writer. Sometimes it takes just a couple of days to write a letter but then there are times when it takes a little longer; two or even three weeks. I never let the letters delay longer. I've had pen friends who've written a couple of times a year and I'm not into such penpalling. One doesn't have to sit at the computer for 24/7 but it's hard to keep up the communication and get to know someone if the communication is as rare as just a few letters a year. |

| About Me: | Hello to everyone! I'm 16 years old girl from Slovenia, a small country in central Europe. Charlotte is a fictional name. It may seem strange what am I doing in a group that's over twenties. I decided to put myself in here coz I was very dissapointed to see the ads in the group under 20. But that's just a shorter explanation, really. As first, I adore reading. At the beginning of this year I decided to put on the paper all the titles of the books I will read just to see how much I read actually. After a half of the year pass by I've disovered the number of around 50 so we can say I read 100 books per a year. More or less as books can be thicker or thinner. Well I don't know if this is a number for Guiness but I guess it's a lot. At least we can say I read more than any other teenager. Then, my next big love is writing. This is a real passion of mine. Maybe that's why I enjoy in writing letters so much, I don't know. Awards I got are a proof for this. I'm not trying to make myself more important than I am with saying this, I'm just being healthy proud on myself, that's all. I adore music and movies. Especially music takes a big part of my life. It's always there. In whatever mood I am. Rock is still my favourite but I listen to all kinds of music in general. Music and good movies always help me to rebuilt myself after a long day. As I mentioned I love penpalling. I usually get bored pretty fast but not in this case. I can say that after 3 years of penpalling I have seen the good and also the bad sides of it but I'm still very into it and I'm absolutely sure it will never end. Despite the fact I was dissapointed many times, it all returned to me in the shape of loyal and chatty pals. You know, what goes around, comes around. I also love films and if I’m not sat in front of the TV or watching a DVD then I can be found at the local cinema, again I have a vast number of favourites, anything from a scary thriller to rom-coms to fantasy to animated kids films. I also have quite a love for 80’s flicks, possibly another attachment to my younger years, I particularly love John Hughes movies. Continuing with the media obsession, music is another love of mine: rock-pop-indie and once again a bit of a fascination for 80’s music. I used to go to a lot of gigs and festivals, but have calmed it down a bit over recent years. I love spending my free time, when I’m not engrossed in my letters or other hobbies, out exploring and taking photos - I’m by no means a professional photographer, I just enjoy having the memories of places I’ve been and people I’ve met to look back on. I also enjoy travelling, something I regret I haven’t done nearly enough of and am only just really beginning now to see a little of the world, I love learning about other cultures and have a whole wish list of places I’d love to visit someday. I love fun holidays though too and am a Disneyland obsessive - you don’t realise just how much fun you can have there until you experience it yourself . . . And being a big kid at heart does help. |

My story from a couple of passed years goes that I graduated from high school in spring 2004 and tried to get in the law university straight away but didn’t make it in the entrance exam at the first try. I gave up that plan, as I realized it wasn’t the thing for me. At the moment I’m working as a sales assistant and studying languages which definitely are my cup of tea. I’ve studied several languages after high school and already in school. Finnish is my native language and English I started when I was nine years old. I’ve also studied it in an university level even if I’ve never “officially” been in university to study it. I can speak Swedish because it’s the second official language in Finland, not to forget to mention though that my skills are a bit rusty, tee hee. I took the basic course of German and French in high school and I have studied more French after high school, and I’m also planning to continue it this spring. I studied the basics of Russian and Arabic this fall and I will continue Russian later but Arabic I wanted to learn just so much that I’m familiar with the letters and some of the most common phrases. So, obviously, I’m very fond of languages and they’ve always captivated me a lot. I live in Helsinki and I have one brother and two sisters, I’m the eldest. I have a who’s very dear to me. One of the happiest days in my life was in December last year when I got Garfield. I have several hobbies and interests; music, reading, writing, discussing, computers, Internet, some sports like jogging and swimming, languages, history, psychology, cultures, learning new things in general... I could write a list of ten pages of them if I just dared to start. I’m basically always up to a lot. I’m an active person and always ready to try new things and very curious about just everything. I sing, play piano and a bit guitar but basically I do it just for fun and for myself. Music is a very big part in my life and I consider myself musical. I enjoy listening to all sorts of music. Television: I like good television; there just doesn't seem to be all that much of it about. DVD box sets are useful for catching up on shows that weren't broadcast over here; or were, but on some obscure channel I don't receive; or were on a channel I do receive, but poorly scheduled; and so on. Books: A couple of months ago, I cleared my bookcase of the books I'd read and replaced them with unread ones. This makes the place look rather neater, but it also makes me realise just how many unread books I have. And that's not counting all the unread books I have upstairs, or the books I don't have but would like to read... Yes, I like reading books. Quotes: When I was at school, we were taught to use '66s and 99s'. Over the years, they stayed double but became more like straight lines. Then, at university, they preferred single quotation marks, and it's those that I prefer to use now. |

| About Me: | I am 29 years old and just finished my studies at university. I'm happy about that, it's a relief that I don't have to prepare any exams for a while, but - believe me or not - I already miss university and that's why I'm going to return there in September to start some kind of postgraduate studies and to write my thesis. Meanwhile, I work parttime as a French teacher in a private language school and I also do freelance translations (mainly websites and economic texts). I adore learning languages. | About Me: | Hello dear, still unknown friend. How are you doing there, wherever you live? I’m supposed to be celebrating the midsummer, and well, I am but in my own way. No big party, no bonfire – just silence and peace by myself, lying on the sofa and reading, resting after a hard week. I don’t despise the company of people, but after an exhausting week I need some time for myself. I’ve experienced it before – there is some magic in spending these big celebrations alone. Surely, it’s only when you have other options and the loneliness is self-chosen. Do you ever have needs like this? I thought to write you a letter, so you see what kind of things I might write about. Of course, this letter is more selfish than a real one would be – now I don’t have your letter to answer to, your things to comment. I must say, though, that I may write quite a lot about myself in general – from whose point of view would I deal with the things if not from my own? Besides, I also love to hear from you, and I think we can have a dialogue even if we mainly write about ourselves. Ignoring questions tends to make me upset, though, it makes me wonder if you mind at all what I write. I understand, though, that sometimes my questions are simply too many, you can’t fit all the answers in one letter. I can’t always do it it either, and I’m trying to learn – surely I need to comment only the things I have something to say to, to keep the letter interesting. Yes, I tend to wonder quite a lot about letter-writing, and sometimes panic catches me on the first lines… But if I’m able to continue, writing makes me happy. Is it always easy for you to write? Do you have a tendency to wait for the right mood and the great inspiration, or can you just sit down and decide you will do it? Often I write letters in my mind, over and over. And if I don’t have time to write them down immediately, some of the things get old, and leave a feeling that the letter lacks something. So now you’ve become a penpal of an anxious letter-writer, obviously. Yet I think writing is often easier than talking! It took me quite long to understand it’s really summer now. For a long time I just saw it, like a distance observatory without any personal touch to it. Now I’ve lived long enough among it, swam, felt the mosquitos, experienced the far too hot days and seen all the blooming flowers. I’m not really fond of heat, but I like days when I can’t feel the air, neither hot or cold, but I’m one with it. I love fresh wind, too, it makes me alive. What kind of weathers do you prefer? During my silent midsummer I’ve read a book and several magazines. I read an article about finnish development aid in Peru and it made me somehow glad. It was made so that it strengthens the local self-sufficiency and the local people become part of the decision-making. Become empowered – to use this fashionable word. It made me also want to travel and see the world, take part to interesting projects and do something useful. It’s not the first time I want this.
