My story from a couple of passed years goes that I graduated from high school in spring 2004 and tried to get in the law university straight away but didn’t make it in the entrance exam at the first try. I’ve studied several languages after high school and already in school. Finnish is my native language and English I started when I was nine years old. I can speak Swedish because it’s the second official language in Finland, not to forget to mention though that my skills are a bit rusty, tee hee. I took the basic course of German and French in high school and I have studied more French after high school, and I’m also planning to continue it this spring. I studied the basics of Russian and Arabic this fall and I will continue Russian later but Arabic I wanted to learn just so much that I’m familiar with the letters and some of the most common phrases. So, obviously, I’m very fond of languages and they’ve always captivated me a lot. I live in Helsinki and I have one brother and two sisters, I’m the eldest. I have a who’s very dear to me. One of the happiest days in my life was in December last year when I got Garfield. I have several hobbies and interests; music, reading, writing, discussing, computers, Internet, some sports like jogging and swimming, languages, history, psychology, cultures, learning new things in general... These intros are always so hard - trying to give a good description which doesn't cause the reader to yawn and fall off their chair. Well, if you're still reading I can go on to say that I'm a 39 year old female from UK who enjoys penpalling - obviously or why else would I be here? I've been corresponding since I was about 10. I also enjoy everything associated with penpalling - nice stationery, rubber stamps, commemorative postage stamps, different fonts (yes, I type all my letters). I also enjoy reading (travelogues, biographies, drama), some crafts (am learning to bead at the moment), collecting postcards, used stamps and model elephants. I'm not a great one for sport (to watch or to do) but I enjoy walking when the weather's nice. I live in a rural area so there are plenty of possibilities for getting out and about. I can be a couch potato too and prefer to watch TV when there's something more important I should be doing (such as housework). Travelling is another interest - either in reality or virtual. With the latter it can be through watching TV programmes, reading books or talking/writing to people who've been there. That's one great thing about penpalling. It's like travelling without leaving the armchair. I also enjoy eating out, drinking coffee, listening to music from time to time or going to the cinema, getting together with friends, tapestries, container gardening, cacti, walking by the sea, learning languages, animals, feeding the birds in the garden, candles, well that's enough to be going on with. I'm fairly quiet 'in real life' but rather chatty in my letters. |
| What I'm looking for in a pal: | I'm looking for a female penpal whom I can 'chat' with. I mean, we can have written conversations where we both ask and answer questions and get to know each other quite well. Someone to talk about anything and everything with - the happy and less happy, mundane and bizarre. I don't like form letters which are sent to dozens of people. Although I type all my letters, they are individual and I answer questions that I'm asked. I also want a penpal who is serious about friendship and won't disappear after 2 or 3 letters without at least saying good-bye if they feel we don't 'click'. I can't promise to reply to your letter within a week, or even a month of receipt. But I do always reply. Similarly, I don't expect my pals to reply within a set timeframe. We'd all probably like to spend every waking minute composing letters but real life just gets in the way of all that. | What I'm looking for in a pal: | I don¡¦t ALWAYS write very long letters. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I just don¡¦t have an awful lot to say. But I DO write regularly and almost always put a recent photo on each letter. I very rarely wait more than 2-3 weeks before writing back, and do HATE it when penfriends keep me waiting for 2-3 months or more for a reply, saying they have been ¡¥busy.¡¦ Obviously there is going to be occasions when you can¡¦t write back for quite a number of weeks, (or a couple of months,) but if you are someone who thinks they will not be able to write back for 2-3 months quite regularly, then I am not the penfriend for you. Sorry, but I am tired of penfriends who write within 2 weeks for the first two letters, and then the frequency of the letters drops to waiting 3 months after receiving mine before writing. I find it very hard to get a friendship going properly when letters are so infrequent.
I always type because I find it hard to write (I will explain why if you become my penfriend;) and I do occasionally copy paragraphs from one letter to another. If I have written 350 words about somewhere I have been or something that has happened. I see little point in re-typing the SAME 350 words for 10 penpals. I am 100% convinced that EVERYone who sends typed letters to penpals does the same. I do however, pay full attention to each individual penpal letter and reply to everything asked. I¡¦d prefer penpals who are 30 to 50 years old, and FEMALE only, and preferably married with children; although it¡¦s not essential. I just think that if someone writes who is say 22 y.o. or who is in her 30s and never married with no kids, and is career minded etc, that she may not relate to me being married with a child.
