| About Me: | Honesty is the basis for any meaningful human interaction and an old issue as the following anecdote reminds us.
Diogenes the Greek philosopher had been strolling over the agora in Athens. When asked why he was carrying a lighted lamp in broad daylight he answered: I am looking for an honest man. In every day’s life, some people fear that by being honest someone’s feelings might be hurt. Yet, isn’t this rather a lame excuse in many cases? For, if we are opting for a lasting relationship or a genuine exchange of thoughts with a pen pal, how can we then be nice instead of honest? (I know that being honest does not mean that I am right). So not honestly expressing my true thoughts further meant, not taking my dialogue partner seriously and most probably, an eventual misunderstanding, the reason for many quarrels, would never be cleared up. I think better than to lie, is to express my true thoughts in a decent manner so that the interlocutor can understand my point of view. This also means, I should not just make claims about something but explain why I have come to a certain conclusion. By staying honest, I have the chance to learn something and gain some insight. Isn’t this a reason for and a benefit of an open dialogue? I am Swiss, retired Project Manager, non-religious, married with two adult sons. Some of my main interests are: Philosophy, Biology and Piano. Now after all this serious thinking another anecdote. Jean-Paul Sartre is sitting at a French cafe, revising his draft of Being and Nothingness. He says to the waitress, "I'd like a cup of coffee, please, with no cream." | What I'm looking for in a Pal: | I'm in Europe, *female* friends from near AND far are equally welcome, just be fairly fluent in English or German. Although I speak a little French, it's not enough for correspondence, so I'm afraid it's got to be one of the other two languages.
Age isn't an issue at all, but please be 30+! I'm not nitpicky about the medium that you use for writing, so typed letters are totally fine, as long as they are personal. I type some of my letters (they're certainly *all* personal!), so if that's a real problem in your book, you better skip my ad. Chatty, medium to long (2-6 pages A4 sized paper) letters are certainly preferred, *snail mail* only (e-mail in between letters is fine!). Make sure you have more to talk about than the local weather or your cat's latest antics! - NOTE: Depending on what's going on in my life, it can sometimes take me a while to respond to letters. If that really bugs you, you believe friendship means writing back by return mail, and you want to have a response from people within a certain fixed time span, I might not quite be the right penpal for you. I will absolutely do my best to maintain a regular correspondence, and I will always write back. Also, I will keep in touch via e-mail in between letters. So, *do* get in touch and e-mail me with a proper introduction (please: more than just a few words! No epic novel required, but more than "hi, I'm xyz, so-and-so old, want to be pals?". Rule of thumb: two paragraphs are just right - more is welcome, of course!). We'll take it from there then :-) |

We have been watching a rare woodpecker way, way, way up in one of the tallest trees in the Park recently, and he's been watching us, too. His hearing is amazingly sharp.)I do yoga, I often am on Ebay, at antique shops/fairs, and charity shops looking for bargains. , car boots(like a giant yard sale). I go after bargains in designer clothes and shoes, art deco jewellery,my stationary/writing paper, small antiques, handbags/purses, guitars for Chris, collectibles, to name a few. I collect many items from antique postcards to fairies to coins from America and England to jewellery, and so on. I(I am a very young 55 year of age,young-looking, and young-thinking/behaving, as you will see by my pictures when you write me, as I look much younger than I am.) optimistic, upbeat,with a good sense of humour. I put God first in my life; I have learned that happiness is an attitude, or a mindset,based on a habit, basically habitually the kind of thoughts we think. Change the thoughts, and you can be happy.It's sounds scarey at first, but when we realise we are changing a habit or an old pattern,THAT, you can easily deal with, not an addiction, which would cause horrible withdrawl symtoms, and require professional help in most cases. Last 1981, my grandmother invited me to go to province for a vacation, one day as we go on shopping my grandmother noticed a blood stain at my back asked me what id that blood flowing to my legs. My grandmother got nervous and she run me to hospital, the Doctor explained to my grandmother to take care of me for my situation is delicate, I am partly man and partly woman. The phenomena stopped for many years then I went to Saudi Arabia 1992 to 1995 and it happens one’s again. As we walked along the street my Filipino friend told me that I have back stain so I thought it’s just a part from where I settled so I asked her to tap it up but she refused and shouted it’s a blood in your ass I am so confused and afraid so I went to Arabian Doctor asked him to checked the coming out in me. He had the same conclusion with the doctor. Well, as of now its not happening yet actually. I’m happy for that I know there still a chance for my impossible dream. Because partly of its true. Bye! I am an artist, historian and translator. My husband is a historian and author (10 published books so far) and I participate in his books. I love the art of making candles and soap, knitting, pottery, floral art, windowcolor decorations, papercraft, stained glass, weaving, painting (tempera, charcoal), murals, tiled stove and anything else using tiles... architecture - unusual buildings, do-it-yourself work, interior design, history, languages, nature, animals, wildlife, ecology, environment, travelling, museums, open-air museums, national parks, marked nature trails, hiking in the mountains, myths and legends, folk lore, computer, Internet, digital camera, correspondence... folk and ethnic music, country and western, traditional Irish music, oldies, classic music, opera. Spanish, French and Italian singers... Greek music, traditional music from anywhere, non-fiction, sci-fi and fantasy, classic literature, biographies and autobiographies. I collect picture postcards, maps, travel books, dictionaries, language books, general encyclopaedias, non-fiction related to my interests, shells, semi-precious stones, music CDs... also anything I can decorate my lair with. :-) I am nuts about incense, candles, paints and crayons, interesting stationery and stickers ... I do use my collection though. :-) Sitting in front of TV really isn´t a part of my life, although I admit I am very much fond of my computer and I adore Internet. :-) It´s a very practical thing if you live in a very small town, you know? I don´t go to movies regularly, since I really prefer opera, art galleries and museums. I don´t go to concerts (unless it´s classic music) simply as the singers I like to listen to are mostly already dead. :-) I prefer to buy CDs... occasionally I listen to youtube if I am curious about somebody. I have several thousand books, I am just nuts about books, and I love to buy them. :-) I read a lot, but mostly it´s non-fiction and I don´t follow modern literature (fiction) as such. The style that seems to be so popular nowadays simply doesn´t suit me. :-) |
| What I'm looking for in a Pal: | I am looking for snail mail correspondence with women of or around my age... really long letters, 6 pages at least. As many pages as you can write and read... it doesn´t have to be the same number always. Some letters can be shorter, of course. It´s just I´d like to get one really long, detailed letter at least once or twice a year. With some shorter letters meanwhile, perhaps, or some e-mail correspondence between letters. By e-mail correspondence I don´t mean you will send me mass e-mails ("to everybody") -I don´t reply these.
Good, chatty, fluent English... or at least readable. If you prefer, you can write in chatty (but standard) German, French or Russian... nevertheless you must have a very good reading knowledge of English (or a lots of patience with the dictionary :-)) because I will reply in English. My letters are typed. I will be definitely happy if you like to type your letters, too. You can handwrite your letters in English, if you really must. Don´t expect me to try and decipher your handwriting in any other language, though. I´ve studied about 10 languages through my life, and I´d be really happy to make friends with anybody who is also nuts about foreign languages ... I am always willing to learn anything new either about the languages I studied, or about any new one. Your English doesn´t have to be perfect if it isn´t your first language but it must be chatty. I just won´t reply any simple letter from a person who only started to learn "yesterday". Or was learning "some" English 20 years ago. Sorry, I have had my fill of that and I am not a teacher. For one thing I don´t have the patience it requires. I am interested in every country of the world, in the differences and similarities. For my snail mail address please send me e-mail first. If I like it, I will reply. Feel free to ask me any questions you may need to help you decide if you are really interested in snail mail correspondence with me... I am quite willing to reply those by e-mail before we ever start to exchange letters. I would like to find a couple of steady friends, for life. I like to swap picture postcards and/or stickers. If you like FBs, I can send you some or swap them with you. I can send you used stamps or anything reasonable you may collect. I like fat envelopes and pretty, neat mail. I like to send little things or small presents just for the fun of it. I won´t go to meet you, I don´t intend to spend my vacation in your place, and I won´t do anything for you if you want to visit my country. :-) Just so we understand one another and you don´t get to be disappointed later on. :-) I am generous towards my penfriends but I don´t run a travel agency and frankly I couldn´t care less. Your travelling is your business, entirely. I am only interested in correspondence. I am a vegetarian, I don´t smoke and don´t drink any alcohol. I won´t mind if you eat meat, but I am not interested in penfriends who smoke or drink alcohol, or overuse chemical medication on daily basis. I know what I am saying, I had some of these penfriends and it never worked well. You would think, why, with that distance it must be irrelevant... only it wasn´t, clearly. We will have more to chat about if you are into health food and healthy lifestyle as well. I´d like to hear from some woman who is also into yoga or tai-chi or aikido (non-professional!)or belly dance. I am an atheist and I won´t join your religion... don´t try to bother. I don´t like patriots but on the other hand, if you feel a need to complain about your country constantly, I won´t be thrilled about that either. I am not a 100% positive person but I am not a 100% complainer either. I would think most of the time I am 70 to 75% a positive, cheerful person and as for the rest I like to complain... most of the time about cold weather. I don´t like snow... it´s hard to find something good to say about that d... white stuff, he he he. Especially if you are supposed to see it around for 6 months a year. :-) I consider it healthy (and rational) if you will complain about something sometimes, but not all the time. I am not a psychiatrist. Don´t write to me if you are mentally ill and need a therapy. Just a word of warning. I usually don´t get on well with teachers. I don´t know why. :-) |

I very rarely wait more than 2-3 weeks before writing back, and do HATE it when penfriends keep me waiting for 2-3 months or more for a reply, saying they have been ¡¥busy.¡¦ Obviously there is going to be occasions when you can¡¦t write back for quite a number of weeks, (or a couple of months,) but if you are someone who thinks they will not be able to write back for 2-3 months quite regularly, then I am not the penfriend for you. Sorry, but I am tired of penfriends who write within 2 weeks for the first two letters, and then the frequency of the letters drops to waiting 3 months after receiving mine before writing. I find it very hard to get a friendship going properly when letters are so infrequent.
I always type because I find it hard to write (I will explain why if you become my penfriend;) and I do occasionally copy paragraphs from one letter to another. If I have written 350 words about somewhere I have been or something that has happened. I see little point in re-typing the SAME 350 words for 10 penpals. I am 100% convinced that EVERYone who sends typed letters to penpals does the same. I do however, pay full attention to each individual penpal letter and reply to everything asked. I¡¦d prefer penpals who are 30 to 50 years old, and FEMALE only, and preferably married with children; although it¡¦s not essential. I just think that if someone writes who is say 22 y.o. or who is in her 30s and never married with no kids, and is career minded etc, that she may not relate to me being married with a child.
