Message:I checked out the YIS site and to my surprise found names like Leslie and Chris Helm, Anna Maria Espinosa en Marco Liem.

Amazing. Those names jogged some memories and really started me wondering about my friens from those days.
Names such as Thomas Kondo and Hans Bellingwout.

I'd love to hear from anybody from those days.

Message:Reading Laurence Koike’s message and looking over the YIS website brought back some very old memories. Sandi Ike told me of a YIS reunion in Seattle in 2005, which led me to this alumni site.

I started in the 3rd grade I think, and after completing the 8th grade I went to SJC for three years. I met Eugene Myers in the senior year at Darien High School (Connecticut) 1970-71, and David Anderson while attending Connecticut College in New London I think in 1973. I’ve stayed in touch with Sandi and Doug Ike since the 1980s, and just before I left Seattle in 1999 I met Leslie Helm. I can remember about 30 other YIS names, including teachers and those from my brother Michael’s and my sister Carol’s classes. Who remembers Mrs. King and her odd little hand clapping, thigh slapping ritual giving “thanks for the day?”

But the one experience I hope to go through was described by the guest speaker at the Grade 8 graduation ceremony when I left, where he said, "...and one day when you are presidents - or wives of presidents - [remember the times] you will look up across the table and point to each other and say, 'Yokohama International School, 1967!'"

Best wishes to all, Gene

Years at YIS: 1965-1966

Message:I saw this message board and decided I should say a few words. I was in SJC from 1956-1965 and attended YIS for one year (65-66). I then went to England for 4 years and returned to Japan to attend Sophia Univ (1971-1975). I now reside in So. Calif.
Since my stint at YIS was brief I do not recall many names. I do recall certain faces and some names.
I do recall the French teacher and the Science teacher.
Names like Marsha and Eugene pop up. When it's been close to 40 yrs it requires some jogging of the brain. I have been a relatively quiet kid and didn't participate in school actvities. I did enjoy the bright attitudes of the students quite different from the SJC environment. I recall feeling more welcome there.
My brothers Winston, Theodore, Richard were there. Maybe not all at the same time.
Drop me a line.....

Message:I attended YIC from 1964 to 1967. I can't believe how much the school has grown! I have some old pictures of the school, inside and out, that I would be happy to email to anyone who would like them. The only friends I remember were Tan Altembay, from Turkey I believe, and Gonzales Espinosa from Peru. It really brought back some memories seeing the YIC web site.

Does this mean anything to you? I wish it does since I have
wanted for so many years to know about my friends.Maybe you
were in my class and I'm sorry but your name is not
familiar to me. Maybe you can refresh my mind! PLEASE write
back. Today for the first time I looked up for YIS in my
computer and almost cried when I saw Mr. Bernnard's photo.
He was my History teacher!! It would be great if we can
