Message:I'm always happy when I see someone from YIS. I feel like you guys are my real family. Was so great to spend time with Paul Mason when he droped by Yokohama. I took the SHINKANSEN out to see him and his wonderful wife.
Uncle Curtis, thanks for setting that up. Paul was my best friend as a kid we felt like a 14 year olds stuck in a 40 year old's body when we walked down the halls of YIS looking into the classrooms. Nice to talk with Mr Bernard, Curtis, and Teddy Lee. Teddy took us to a great YAMUCHA or Dimsum place in China town. Thanks Teddy for the lead and the good conversation. - Loyd

Message:Just managed to find this page and was thrilled to see many familiar names. I finished high school in Sydney, did nursing degree and still work as a nurse. I also work as a guide through caves, a more recent job so as to expand my caving thrills! I have been married for 20 years to Michael and have 3 kids,Erin-16,Scott-14,Jack-10.Whilst I have not travelled much overseas since returning to Australia, we have lived all around Australia...my husband's work as a hotel manager moved us all over the country. We seem to have settled now in Sydney's Blue Mountains where we get the odd snowfall and live in a small village with lots of cafes and antique stores...another of my loves! Over the years I have seen a few old faces,Cathy James,Ken Swan,Christina Baumann,Donna Donafun?'75, spoke to Mark Palin?'79 by phone once.Hope this fills in the last 30 years

Message:HI!!!

I just read some very old messages on the message board. I realized it is time to update my message!

I have been living in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for the past three years! Again following my husband who works in the oil business. We are about to move again this summer but we don't know yet where to. I'll keep you posted. My kids are doing great, the twins Gion and Andri are now 16 and are studying for their GCSE's. Quite stressfull. Lea is 14 going on 20!!!! with a very active social life, keeping me busy taxiing her around. Myself, I keep busy with all kinds of volunteer work and Yoga. I'm having a good life.

Take care all and I'll be envious of anyone going to Seattle this summer for the reunion, for me it is just too far and we will be in the middle of moving.

Bye Katrin Fraenkl (nee Stauble) class of '78

Message:Hi everyone,

just took a look at the message board, and thought my message looked a little brief, so decided to add to it. I have been living in Jacksonville FL for the past four years. We lived in Cancun Mexico for twelve years before coming here, but were lucky enough to win a green card in an INS Lottery (believe it or not) and decided to move to the States, for the kids schooling, and also for financial reasons. There were more possibilities for us here. Six months after arriving here I started working at the Jacksonville Int'l Airport, and have been here ever since. First for Midway Airlines, then heading up Airport Security, and now overseeing the Baggage Screening operation. I enjoy it and continue to learn more about security every day. It's an ever changing field.

I have two great kids; Jonathan (14) about to head to High School, and Thalia (8) who studies at a bilingual Spanish/English Public School. They are different as night and day, but keep me going. It's great having kids.

Jon, husband is working at a Food Services company, exporting food for restaurants and hotels to the Bahamas. He likes it a lot, and gets to do a reasonable amount of travel.

I recently hooked up with Krista Briggs, who lives about two hours away, direction Orlando. It was like old times when we saw each other. She's got two great boys, and is enjoying life. Only thing is that she only has one more year left in the military, and they are talking about sending her to Iraq.........let's hope that doesn't happen.

I really wanted to try to make the reunion this summer, but right now it doesn't look too good. Anyone else thinking about making a showing? If a bunch of my '78 buddies decided to go, I might just give it another thought!!

Take care and keep in contact. Call me if you are in the area (904)721-0271. Miss you guys and the old days!!

Pia

Message:Dear Class mates,
Where did you all go? It's amazing how much you can miss the old days of Yokohama. I ended up in Houston, Texas married to my childhood soul mate and have to smashing kids, Eliza and Lucas.

Lisa and I went back to visit Yokohama several years ago. Thank you to Curtis Bond for making it such an easy and memorable trip. It's amazing how much it had changed but at the same time how familiar it still felt.

I was excited to see notes in this web site by Jill Prest, Eddie Jewett, Katrin Stabler, Krista Briggs, Christina etc.

My brother Scott Mason lives here in Houston as well and my sister Kathy Mason lives in Newmarket just north of Toronto.

If ANYONE comes within 50 miles of Houston and does not come to visit or at least call so that I can go meet you for Sushi and a bottle of sake....I'll be upset.

Miss you guy's

See ya soon,

Love, Paul

Message:Hi there,

I have just stumbled upon this website and have seen photos and names of people I recognise, wow what a blast from the past.

I was only at YIS for about 9 months in 1975 but it was a very memorable and impressionable time for me.

After I finished school I spent a bit of time travelling around Europe and worked for a while in Greece and Switzerland. I am now living back in Sydney after spending a few years in Perth (Western Australia) and Melbourne for 6 years. I am married and have two daughters, Elyse 7 and Lauren 5 who has just started school this February.

I was working for Qantas for about 6 years and completed a Travel and Tourism course. I'm not working at the moment so I am making the most of my free time before returning to the workforce hopefully next year.

Hope to hear from somebody soon.

Message:Much has changed in my world since I last left a note on this board. My thanks to those of you who made such an effort to contact me after the plane hit the Pentagon. Your kind words helped so much. It's taken me a very long time to come out of the shock of losing 33 friends and learning that my own desk was in the collapsed part of the building only a week after I left the job.

My boys and I now live in Merritt Island, Florida -- about 45 miles east of Orlando. Kyle is 8 and Scott is 6. My
husband, Robin, still lives in Virginia, but will be moving down when he finds work here. I'm still in the Army, working as part of the full-time staff for a Reserve unit in Orlando. I count myself very lucky not to have mobilized with the others in my unit who are still in "the sandbox," as we call it. If the whole unit goes, I'll take my place with them, but I'm still clinging to the hope that it won't be necessary!

My parents live near here and I'm planning to retire here in about 2 years -- one of the high points of Army life is to retire after 20 years of service. My sister, Mikki (known to you as Shelly Briggs, class of '77) has just joined us here from California. If we keep this up, we can transplant the entire family! We just need to get Mikki's kids (Ian - 21, Erin - 20, and Sooni 18) and my brother, Michael (Mike Briggs, class of '82) moved out from California...

Thanks for everything!!!

Message:"Jenny's Little Sister." Attended YIS 72-75. I'm still alive and kicking. Not married; never have been.
Currently have two kids (Abigale & Cassiopeia) with four legs. Two of the sweetest, goofiest dogs you will ever
meet. When we left YIS, I ended up at a high school in NJ - 3,500 students. Talk about culture shock! (Ran into
the Merkels summer 97 in a park by the Smithsonian in Washington DC.) Graduated from Northern Illinois
University (DeKalb, IL); BA Theathre Arts. Moved to Chicago and worked in professional theatre for a number of
years, as well as secretarial work to pay the bills. Got tired of frostbite in the winter and steambaths in the
summer; so, I moved to LA in 91. Presently work for Disney Channel in Burbank, CA. Managed to get to San
Francisco for the reunion last fall. What a step back in time! Looking back, I'd like to apologize to everyone for
being such the geek. You all touched my life in more ways than you will ever know. Thank you.

Message:I was looking for school information for my children and
digressed -- I was thrilled to find out there was a way to
reach out to my YIS pals.

I was at YIS from 75 to 77, then went to California for my
Senior year. Now I live in Springfield, Virginia with my
husband, Robin, and our two boys, Kyle (5) and Scott (3).
I've been in the Army for 15 years and I now work at the
Pentagon -- what a bureaucracy!! Majors (my current rank)
are a dime a dozen here, so I blend into the rest of the
crowd. Robin is working here as an environmental
technician dealing with plans for cleaning up oil spills in
various locations. We all like it here, so hope the Army
won't hustle us off on our next move too soon.

Send me a note when you get a chance -- I'd love to get
reacquainted.
