Message:Congratulations Tiffany! It seems like the number of unmarried folk is declining. Yesterday I was told the average age of a guy to marry in England was 30, so I have about 4 months to find a girl, leaving 3 months to plan and have the wedding...

All is fine with me, I think. I saw Yuko Niizeki last month, and she will be staying with me in London for a week at the beginning of June. She's definitely mellowed out with age, and seems quite happy now too.

Last night I went out to watch some comedy with Vicky Lampard and her young man, and then had a bit of a dance. She lives just round the corner from my house so I see her quite a bit. Again, she seems happy too!

So all is well in our world, and I hope this message finds you in equally happy circumstances.

Alex

I'd like to wish you all Merry Christmas (a bit late, I know) and a happy new year. Hope you're all doing well.
I hope everything goes well for Mr. Stanworth. I must join Alex and say I had nothing but good experience with him (apart from all those Math classes of course...).

I'm still in Israel, living in a small village near Tel Aviv with my husband (Shai) and daughter (Leia), who's almost 2 now. I'm STILL sdudying (and probably will be forever), this time it's Chinese Medicine and I'm loving it.

It's great to hear what you guys are up to from time to time. Keep it up!
Love,
Alma

Message:I personally had nothing but good experiences with Mr.Stanworth and found him to be a very principled person. It's a shame the person who left the message below did not leave their name, but perhaps they too have their own agenda. Needless to say, I think it's okay to wish someone the best in their recovery from pneumonia!

Message:I wouldn't feel too sorry for Dennis Stanworth if I were you, considering the recent scandal at YIS: Stanworth's younger daughter was caught cheating on her IB Bio exam, but the appalling fact is that it was disgracefully hushed up and swept under the carpet by the powers that be at YIS, allowing Daddy's girl to graduate valedictorian, receive the PTSA award, etc. Someone had the good sense to report it to the IB-office, so there will be a full IB investigation and Neil Richards is supposed to resign after this year, perhaps Stanworth as well. Serves them all right.

Message:Hello people, whats going on?

Helen, thank you for keeping us informed with regards to Stanworth. I’ll try to dropp him an e-mail…hopefully he still remembers me.

Just an update…

I have been here in NY since October 05 trying to adjust back to the civilian life. It hasn’t been easy and there are still days where I want to put the uniforms back on.
After the Army, I tried the corporate world for a few months, but ended up finding out I was getting no “job satisfaction” from it. I did some soul searching, and came to the conclusion that I need to follow my calling to be a teacher.
So, I am now attending Fordham Graduate School of Education in a special 1 year accelerated masters program. By June of next year I should have a Masters in Childhood Education, grades 1-6. Who would have thought I would have ended up being a teacher? Who know’s, maybe I’ll come back to YIS….
Otherwise, I have only been in touch with Varvara (who is living in NY as well). She is now a married woman!! I have not heard from anyone else though. So...how many people in our class have gotten married? And how many are still single? We are really overdue for a class reunion!!
Well, I just wanted to leave a few woerds, but I need to go now, so until next time, stay intouch…..

Message:Hey Guys,
Firstly of course we remeber you Yuko. Alex told me about you spending time in India, he was taking the michael out of me meditating at the time which is what remeinded him of you. Not likely to be in Japan anytime soon as I am hopefully moving to New Zealand for a year or two. Then I will have enough community experience to work in a developing country. Thats the plan but things don't always work out. Anyway the reason I am writing is apparently Dennis Stanworth has been unwell will pnuemonia, he is back at home but is missing his daughters graduation in the UK. His email is dstan@hotmail.com if anyone wanted to wish him a get well soon.
Is anyone coming over to YOBS ?
Take care all

Message:Hi Everyone!
Wow...I only came to know the existence of this page today...since 6 years ago!!! Oh my goodness...
I now work in Singapore for a European Investment Bank in Legal & Compliance...who would have thought I'd ever land up in this job...I guess it is a very comfortable role but quite boring going thru piles and piles of legal docs. I just got an internal transfer, so I will be moving back to Tokyo for a new role in the Front Office. I think that would be much more rewarding and exciting!
Singapore had been great, I think it was a good life...nice condos with gym, swimming pools, jacuzzi, pool rooms, nice golf ranges, great spas and lovely weekend outings to resorts in Indonesia, Malaysia, all the beautiful nearby islands!
I've also picked up Salsa dancing...and have been making trips to Havana, Cuba quite often. I've performed a few times but it is a looooong way to even become a semi-professional dancer...Cuba is another place I've become infatuated with...it is one of the safest places and the people are so friendly and hospitable.

Guess that's all the update from my side :)

Happy writing!

Sohini.

Message:I see people are doing great.

Vivek, Congratulations on your wedding. Man, it seems as though the list of single people in our class is slowly getting shorter.

I am still in NY, but as time progresses I am seriously considering this move to be a temporary one. I guess Im not cut much to be a city boy.

Alex, like you, I just ended a relationship too. It was a 2 year long relationship that was going nowhere and as they say, you sometimes gotta’ hurt a little and face the truth. Its like taking off a bandage; it’s gonna hurt, but it needs to be done. In addition, my job has not gone the way I have expected and after realizing I hate it and that it’s making me miserable, I told them to shove it and quit. So yeah, I am unemployed in NY city, looking for a job while living a bohemian life style. Woooohoooo

So what can I say. Life is not very exciting at this moment. A nice 9 to 5 job sounds really nice right about now. What happened to “working for a living, rather then living for work?” Has life truly become so crappy we have to be slaves to some invisible big brother? I mean, I don’t want to go on a rant here, but what happened to finding a good job where you are not working your soul off and bending over to take it up the a— from some over indulged, rich “I don’t care about anyone but myself”, I will sell your children and mine to the devil, corporate coke head, ex wall street junky.

I like my soul, and I dont want to give it up!

Anyways; I’m in NY City now with a hell of a lot of free time. Feel free to write and say hello. It will be good t have a listening ear.

No particular reason for writing today except to avoid work for another couple of minutes. All is well for me, I started a new job in regulation for financial services in the UK, and it's pretty much 9 to 5, which suits me down to the ground. Somehow I lost all motivation to work after school...or was it before?

Anyway, congratulations to Vivek, and to his wife Alex (and I'm hoping she knows whas she let herself in for...!) I am still far from marriage having just ended another rather dodgy relationship, but the only way is up.

Right, time to look busy.

Alex.

P.S. I'm coming to Japan in May for a few days, and will most likely be in Kobe, so if anyone is down that way at the beginning of that month, let me know.

Message:Hello All,
Well how the hell is everybody? It seems like a lot more people are writing on this forum which is freakin great! I love reading all the updates on people's lives. I have some great news to report, I'm married. My wife Alexandra and I had a little "engagement party" which we invited our close friends and family to in July of last year which turned into a wedding. It was a surprise wedding...yeah I was like, "What the hell is going on I'm getting married?"...just kidding I knew about it...a few minutes before it happened. And if you are wondering it was NOT inspired by Brittney and K-fed...I hate it when people ask me that! We just thought a big fancy wedding was not financially practical and we both are pretty practical people. Married life is great except I still say "My girlfriend Alex" once in a while but I finally got used to my wedding band.

Life is good and Alex and I want to visit Japan at some point. Is anyone still planning a class reunion??? I would love to see how we all turned out. FYI I am balding! Just want to put that out there to make sure that the bar is low when people see me so that you guys don't think, "Man that shithead did not age well at all"

Michi I haven't heard form you in an ice age. So you visited Ernst in Amsterdam huh? I didn't know that Ernst lived in the land of legal hookers and left-handed cigarettes....sounds like a party!!!

Well, I am here in NY. Found a nice little apartment in Queens and its about 30 minutes away from Manhattan by the express train.

NY city is very interesting. I have been living in the south for too long and now being in the big city, it sure is a big cultural shock for me. There is plenty to do here though so I am not complaining too much and chances are, I will not be staying here for more than 2-3 years anyhow.

If anybody is going to be here in NY at one point or another for a short visit, wants to hang out or just needs a place to crash that will not charge you an arm and a leg, feel free to e-mail me. I am always happy to have guests over.

Life is good otherwise. Met up with Varv a couple of weeks ago here in the city. She lives right across the river in NJ and is doing pretty well for herself and fiancé.

Feel free to e-mail me when ever you want. It would be good to hear from people.

In the next few weeks I will be moving to NYC following my exit from the Army. I found a nice job with some nice perks, plus the location will make me a lot closer to family, GF, and Friends.

It will take some time readjusting to the Big City lifestyle (high rent prices, no parking), but just give me some time and before you know it, I’ll know NYC like the back of my hand.

I hope everyone are doing well and its’ good to see people are still stopping by to say hello.

In the next few weeks I will be very busy with moving and such, but feel free to e-mail me if you want.

Message:Hi guys,

I just cam back from a month holiday in Europe. Amonsgt my many stops was Amsterdam where I had the priviledge of catching up with Ernst again. Think that was my 4th time there. Anyway, it was great to see him and we consumed ridiculous amounts of beer. Another stop included London, where I stayed with Natalie Carter (class of 95). On one of the nights we caught up with Satoko, Nina Henrikson, Susie Hendy and Stephen (OP) Timmons.
Kylie and I also travelled to Rome, Prague, Paris and Germany (see the relatives) during our month long journey across europe. All in all it was an awesome trip.

In 18 months my goal is to be in the US for a holiday. Maybe from East to West?? Time permitting.

HOpe everyone is good and well. Back to the grind of work. Amazing the stuff people dont do for you when you are on holiday....

Message:Hello Class, what’s going on?

It is already August and the summer is almost gone by. It is amazing how fast time fly’s by. The weather has been hot here in North Carolina in the last couple of weeks. Reached 113 degrees for a couple of days! Let me tell you, my car felt like a furnace and I finally understood what a turkey feels like while getting baked!
Anyway, it’s good to see people are well and moving on with their lives.
By the way, is it me, or is the world going crazier by the day?
Here in the states everything is just peachy! The country is being over run by ignorance and Christian fanaticism, and just recently another hick (that’s redneck for those of you who don’t know) school board has decided to set “stricter guidelines on the teaching of evolution.” Just because “they” felt it does not include the view of god or the concept of “intelligent design”. I swear, I really think “they” are trying to take us and the rest of the world backwards in time. What’s next, banning the idea that the world is round?!!
Life is ok though! Nothing I can do about most of it but sit back and laugh at some of these people. All I have to say is that there is a reason why there are laws against people whose family line does not fork. I just wish somebody could enforce them!
Anyway, I guess like everyone else, I’m just trying to keep my head above the water.
I recently ran into some paperwork trouble during my out-processing from the Army, nothing that I can’t handle, but just another B.S red-tape that I need to deal with. Regardless, I try to keep a smile on the face, suck it up and move on.
At the end of August I will be in DC area for a privet Hiring conference. Hopefully something good will come up and I will be able to hit a good job, otherwise, unemployment, here I come!

Well, gotta’ get back to work. I just wanted to drop by and say hello to everyone. Hope all is well on your side of the fence.

Stay in touch.

i was in manhattan when 9/11 happened, and the best thing we could do as a city and as a community was to go on with our lives. it was very promising to see how the city came together, and moved on as best we could without being intimidated by the cowardly acts of these terrorists. i hope that london does the same, and i'm confident that you all will.

hopefully we could all meet up next year for our 10 year reunion...until then, be safe and take care of yourselves wherever you are.

Message:hey all,

I thought I'd better drop a line in here to ensure that Vivek and Uri can't claim total web domination.

Nagi, thanks for the update! Maybe I'll come to Tokyo next year so perhaps we can meet up. Also, isn't everyone thinking of changing jobs? Maybe we've all reached an age where we're not so happy with the way things are panning out?!

Please send on my congratulations to Tomomi and Miki if anyone should hear from them. I've actually taken a backward (or forward?!) step in relationships by breaking up with my lovely lady, and hope to find a new and improved version sometime soon. Maybe speed dating awaits...

I had a chat with Alex Timmis on MSN Messenger the other day and he sounds well. I think we'll be meeting up - and all others are welcome - on the 24th of June at the annual Yokohama football get together in the darkest English countryside. Big Ernie is coming as well from Holland, so long as he can get arse into gear and book ticket. Mr. Standworth and Mr.Williams will also be there, I think, and Mr.Tanner and wife usually make it. It's a ladies event also, because they are "allowed" to watch, drink, and criticise the passage of play.

Anyway, I hope this message finds you all in good health. Congratulations in particular to Viv who has found himself a bird to settle down with!

It's been a long time and it seems I have been away long enough so that it is not just myself and Uri who are leaving all the messages...shit Uri and I were using this forum as a private messenger for a while there ;-) As for everyone else who left messages, great to see your names...brings back some great memories....I mean Danny Fucking Escola!!!!! I never thought I would here from you again. And congrats on coming out. I'll let you in on a little secret, San Francisco has a "small" gay community that has the best fucking clubs, bars etc ;-). Anytime you decide to come down here please, please come by I would love to see you! Not that we couldn't go to heterosexual bars, tranny bars, or even the bull-dike bars...although I always get sneered at at the lesbian bars for some reason...I guess I should stop wearing my "Men Rule" t-shirt. Although dude it sucks to be gay in American today but if you think about it, it kinda makes sense. With a president named Bush and VP named Dick that kinda promotes the whole heterosexual theme. Danny my friend to have your day in the sun your gonna have to wait until they're two "Dicks" in the white house instead of the two dicks we have right now ;-)
I am up for a 10 year reunion anywhere in the world except Iraq, Syria, Iran and North Korea....you know the whole axis of evil thing.

Oh yeah FYI I'm getting married in June of next year to Alexandra Rodriguez, who is my girlfriend of two years and currently my fiance. Apparently she wasn't as smart as I thought she was which was displayed by her willingness to marry down ;-) Sorry Uri, I have been converted to the dark side of the force. We need brave men like you holding out buddy...do it for all of us who can't!!!

Michi - The only thing I'm ripping on the court are my hamstrings, after college I really don't play as much. It's nice to here from you though, and I'm jealous of where you live by the way!!!

Alma - Good to see you are happily married and pregnant. Hope your marriage and your baby/ies are healthy ;-)

Nicole - I hope your doing well.

Go- Great idea with the whole reunion thing!

The rest of you I cannot wait to see you at the reunion!!!

Man there are some old faces showing up lately. It sure is good to hear from everyone.
Yet again, it is another late night for me and it has been a while since I dropped a few words; so I figured, I might as well say hello to everyone.
So, people are getting married left and right! O brother am I starting to feel old! It is good to hear that though.

Nagi, when you get a chance, give my congrats to both Miki and Tomomi . I truly wish I could have showed up to all of these weddings, but unfortunately, my job limits my travel outside the perimeter of orders.

Good news is that in June I will officially have 6 months left, unless of course they change orders on me. So everyone, please cross your fingers for me and wish me the best.

Bad new is that now I have to look for a job, so if any of you know somebody who is hiring and looking for a Manager with Military Officer Leadership skills, please let me know.

Anyway, it is really good to see everyone is doing so well.

Go, I like that whole class reunion idea! You can count me in! We are just going to have to figure out when and where we’ll have it. I would personally recommend NY City; just because it’s very international and very accessible. Endless numbers of hotels, bars, clubs, well…you get the picture. Hopefully, by the time we will agree on where and when we’ll have this reunion, I will be living and working in the NY / NJ area, so people will always be welcomed to crash in my place.

Danny, its good to hear to get to travel. Hopefully we’ll meet in the future.

Michi, good to hear you are doing well, how are the beaches down there?

Alma, stay in touch.

Alex, you too!

For everyone else, I hope all are doing well. Feel free to e-mail me whenever. I am always around.

Message: Hey everyone, hope you guys remember me. I was so happy to see such familiar names when I visited this site.

Just to give you an update on what's happening in Japan, Miki and Tomomi are both married now. Tomomi got married this March so I got see some of our old friends at her wedding: Maki, Maiko, Suguru, and Jamie (Class of '98). They seem to be doing just fine.

As for me, I now live in Tokyo; commuting is so much easier for me since I work in Tokyo. I've been working at an insurance company for 4 years, and sort of thinking of changing jobs.

Anyways, if anyone is planning to visit Tokyo or Yokohama, (I read your mail Danny!) send me an e-mail and I'll try to contact everyone here.

Hugs and smiles,
Nagi

Hope you are all doing well. I wanted to let you know that I am going on a short assignment to Hong Kong for about 2 months starting next month (June). I don't know if any of our old classmates live in HK now, but let me know cuz I would love to meet up. I am also thinking about visiting Japan while I'm there. Anyone still in Yokohama or Tokyo? I heard that James Hardy lives there...does anyone know his email? Feel free to email me at descola@kpmg.com if you have any info.

Go, have you picked a venue yet for our big 10 year reunion?

Take care,

wow, i havent checked this site out in a while. so many familiar names. while i was reading all the messages i was thinking how everyone has grown up. what seemed reality when we were 14 or 15 in japan was just a fairy tale growing up in japan. i think back now and realise how good we had things. and all the mischief we got up to.....

as for me, i am still working for honda here in australia. i am in a product planning role which involves the planning and development of accessories for vehicles for australia.

reading over the msg's it is so interesting to read what everyone is doing and what cards life has dealt everyone. guess we are grown ups now huh?!?!

well i hope you are all well. if anyone is ever in australia, please drop me a line and you are more than welcome to stay.

as for me, i will be in europe and japan for a monthy this august(2005). would love to see anyone that has time.

go - the reunion sounds fantastic. i will make the trek (from the ass end of the world) to wherever it may be.

vivek - good to read all the entertaining msg's from you. still ripping it up on the basketball court?

uri - the army.... nice one.

dan - good for you!!!

nicole - hope you are doing good. seeing your name was just a spin out.

alma - thanks for the photos of your wedding a while ago. congratulations on being pregnant. fingers crossed for you and i hope all goes well.

alex - thanks for ernsts email address. emailed him but the lazy c^%t hasnt written back.

Anywho, I just wanted to respond to Wo's idea that we all meet some place for the big 10. I think Yokohama would be ideal considering it's where it all happened...and I'm sure I'm not the only one who hasn't been back to Japan. But, I would go anywhere to see all you guys again.

Hope everyone is doing well. Miss you!

One thing about going to an international school is that everyone scatters all over the world once they leave school, which kinda blows. However, as is true with lots of things in life, there's a positive side...in this case, that everyone scatters all over the world. I bring this up because just yesterday, I met up with an old friend from YIS who I haven't seen since 1996. Debbie Clack (now Debbie Reid, which would've been useful information before I called the hotel that she was staying in) was in town for business...and out of all the things two people who haven't met in close to a decade could do, I made her sit in a sports bar to watch the SuperBowl (the equivalent of the World Cup finals to the rest of the world...except for the fact that the SuperBowl takes place every year and not every four years which I guess doesn't make it as special, but you get the point). Bottom line, it's always great to meet old friends, and it was a fascinating trip down Memory Lane.

Going along with the whole "it's good to meet up with old friends" theme, it's almost 10 years since we've graduated YIS. And on that note, I thought I'd float the idea of having a reunion in 2006 somewhere in the world. In Yokohama? In LA? In Vegas? In San Fran? In New York? In London? In Amsterdam? In Paris? Given that I don't check this site often, just shoot me an email with what you all think.

Anyway, I hope that life is treating everyone well, and take care of yourselves.
Go

Message: Greetings Everyone and Happy New Year!

Hopefully everyone’s new year’s celebration went well and that the hangovers where not too disabling.
I just got back from my week long vacation with my GF in NY and as much as it was fun in was also too short. Stayed away from Times Square and just had a nice and quiet celebration with a nice dinner, some movies and few glasses of champagne (I guess my crazy party days are over!).
I know it’s the New Year and all, and most people want to look at the positive side of life, but as I am sure you all heard by now; that Tsunami really did a number in the East. Just to play safe, I wanted to make sure everyone that we know of that might be in that area is OK. If you know of anything please share it.
Anyway, I’ll end with a nice note. I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Danny, Nicole, Viv, Varv, Tiff, Alma, Alex, whomever has been here lately that I forgot to mention; May all you wishes come true this year, except for the whole “world domination thing” that’s still mine!
Take care and don’t be ashamed to e-mail me.

Stay in touch. Uri

Message:All,
Some new faces on our notice board! Good to hear you're doing well, Danny. If you come to London there are loads of gay bars in Soho that are pretty good. I go to them with friends occasionally because the people there are much friendlier than the straight bars.

Anyway, I see people have been asking about Alma. Since she completely forgot to mention in her message (!), I'll fill you in on her as we talked last week or so. She's totally pregnant at the moment and should drop a sprog in about 5 months, I think - a wee girl. She got married to Shai, who she's been seeing for years now.

Nicole - did you get my e-mail? When you have a chance, drop me a line. I still have the postcard somewhere around here from your last night in Yokohama at that bar drinking Black Russians. Thinking about it now, I realise we must only have been about 15 or 16 years old. Quite sophisticated drinking for a bunch of kids, eh? I recently spent a night drinking only White Russians, and wish we'd drunk those instead because they're way better. Plus the Dude drinks them in that cult film whose name escapes me at the moment.

So anyway, happy Christmas and New Year to you all. I've only got one more present to buy, with 9 hours still left on the clock until Christmas day. God bless the Internet. I shall mainly be spending the religious holiday drinking myself stupid on a large number of bottles of wine with my family - which now includes Jen Finch who married my brother. How weird (but good!) is that?

Right, got to wrap the presents up. Have a good New Year! Anyone who fancies meeting up, drop me a line or give me a call. My number is 0775 382 6096 (mobile). Drop the zero if calling international.

Oh, also remembered I had a good chat with Yuko Niizeki a couple of weeks ago. She's back in India studying Indian flute and generally getting on well. She sounds so chilled out now and relaxed with herself. Quite jealous.

Right, must go.

Alex.

Message:Konichiwa!

This my first visit to this website...and WOW! So good to hear how everyone is doing! I happened upon this alumni site because, believe it or not, Rosie Nakamura found me on friendster.com! She has just moved to NYC and is living literally a block from me. SO, we got together last night and reminised about the old days in Yokohama...about all the silly and fun things we all used to do. Can't even start to tell you how great it was. YIS feels like it was in a former lifetime to me. And unfortunately, I haven't kept in contact with anyone! It's great to come here and see all these familiar names.

To fill you in, I've been living in NYC for about a year and a half now, working as an accountant doing taxes for expatriates :-) It's pretty cool because I get to meet with all these assignees and explain to them what effect their assignment will have on their US tax liability. I also have had the opportunity to take an assignment of my own, but have been pretty resistant so far because my life is pretty good here.

Also, the big shocker is that I'm GAY...although I'm sure many of you knew well before I did :-) I have a great boyfriend and things are going really well.

Go, I wish I had checked this site earlier, would have been cool to see you while you were still living here.

Alma, Where are you living now? Great to hear you have a man.

Jilly, I can tell you are as silly as ever. Hope I get to see you soon.

Nicole, Thanks for all your postings on here. And keep fighting...you're a strong, beautiful girl.

Alex, So good to hear that you are doing well and that you are able to keep up the Japanese.

Uri, It's so unbelieveable to read your postings. Can't believe you're in the US Army. Aren't you Isreali? :-) BTW, are you still planning on going into genetic engineering?

Vivek, Dude you are amazing. So great to hear your perspective on the war, the election, blah blah blah. I totally agree with everything you've said. Down with Bush. He's the fucking Satan of the world.

James Hardy, Don't know if you ever come on here...but would love to hear from you. Miss you, old buddy.

Maria, Congrats on the successful acting career. Saw some shots of you recently, you look great!

Helen, Debbie, & Vicky, Love you guys! Hope I get to see you sometime.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a 10 year class of '96 reunion? Take care guys. If you are ever in NYC and need a place to crash, let me know.

Message:Hey guys,
It's me all the way from Tranny-town USA just wanted to say hello and Merry christmas if I didn't get the chance before the holiday is actually here. I have to say it is awesome to come back to this site and actually read other peoples comments, everytime it feels like I'm gettin in a time machine and hittin the dial back to the early 90's.

A few days ago I had a weird dream involving an elephant whose snout we used to shower, and my dad wrestling an alligator but then after he was finished I remembered thinking that I completely procrastinated on finsihing an assignment for Mrs. Inugai....yeah I know I'm fuckin weird but do you guys remember Mrs. Inugai. I think she was an English teacher, I remember her being really good. In fact I remember all of our YIS teachers being good. When I came back to the US I finished up high school at a private school near where I lived. It was called Pinewood, I called it peckerwood. All the kids were filthy rich and a bunch of dicks, but worst thing of all was that they were mormon. Not that I have anything against...actually I do but anyway it was uncomfortable, they tried to convert me several times. Anyway the teachers there sucked! I can't remember having one shitty teacher at YIS. Even the classes where I sucked, I still thought the teachers were great, like Art, what was that Welsh guys name that would talk Welsh once in a while? He was awesome! I recently found a few old report cards from YIS that was with a bunch of stuff I kept, it really affected me, it was weird.

Anyway the last couple of weeks at work have been party after party. The week befoer last we had our medicinal chemistry departmental party where we had to do a secret santa thing. These things are supposed to be funny and since I'm new at the comapny I didn't really know how inappropriate I could be. I eventaully ended up getting this Canadian girl that was assigned to me a life size carboard cut out of George W. It was between that, a cd called Booty Time Vol 5., or an anatomically correct teddy bear with his lipstick hangin out....I went with the safe one. Anyways I got completely shit-faced with my boss and the head of research. We did tequila shots....urrgggg!!! Then last week we had our company party, it was really nice, they had a live band and everything.

Anyway I will end this complately discombobulated email with a Merry Christmas, happy new year and Uri I'm a dick, email me again and I promise I'll get back to you. When you emailed me last times it was a real busy streak at work.

Take care guys.

Well, the holiday season is here again and I am happy to hear people are stopping by to say hello.
Jigal, its good to hear you are still in touch with a lot of people, I kinda wish I could get up and visit friends and family, but now its not an option. Maybe when I’ll get out, I’ll take a few months, stop shaving, grow my hair again and just backpack across the US and Europe. You know, be a bumb and crash in ya’ all’s places.
As of the 5th I officially have one year to go (or so they say). My commander already knows of my intentions to get out and we agreed to wait until after the holidays to notify the proper authorities and fill up all the necessary paperwork. Hopefully all will go well and they will actually let me out. I also started looking for a job (scary stuff) and prepping for the GRE’s. I think teaching is a path I might be heading towards in the future. God! Can you imagine me teaching? 8 years ago I thought I would be working as a beer taster in the Guinness brewery.
Tiffany, its good to see you are doing well. Stay in touch and feel free to shoot me an e-mail when ever you want. In fact, that invitation is for everyone.
Nicole, stay strong! By actually taking it upon yourself to go into treatment you are showing you have more strength then a lot of people. I really wish I could share with you some of the hardships I went through in the last 2 years, but these are things that I still have a hard time talking about in the open. Either way, I learned a great deal about myself and about human nature in general. You just have to stay strong, set yourself with a goal and follow it all the way through.
People seem to be asking a lot of questions about Alma. Next time I will be on the phone with my Sister, I will see if she knows how Alma is doing. Last time I heard though, she got married!
Vivek! Whats going on? I have tried e-mailing you a few times, but no luck. I am going to try again sometime this week.
That’s about it for now. All right ya’ all, have a good holiday, stay safe and stay in touch.

Message:Dear All,
Last time I wrote I made excuses for me intruding on this page of wisdom. But I admire the outspokeness of all who have written in the past half year. So I got inspired and thought I would write a little something, leave a momento, but as I am writing all the things I have to do this coming year pop into my head. Like you said Nicole it can be difficult to take some time for yourselve and leave the laptop. At the moment I live in Haarlem a little city close to Amsterdam. Went to Phil and Jenn's wedding in October. Was a lovely ceremony with a party I can hardly remember due to a 'modest' intake of alcoholic beverages. It was good to see some of the people from YIS. Sometimes I do believe I lived in a bubble thinking it would not burst. So talking to my old neighbours Debbie and Helen was a nice cruise down memory lane. Alex, you were a pretty good master of ceremony. Ruben, one of my brothers, is getting married in May so now Jaron is trying to manage all the things you did the past year. As for me, trying to enjoy being a bachelor again. Little difficult but with some hours in the gym I'll get that beerbelly out of site when spring comes. Then I'll make my move. But at the moment I go as a good sheep to work and try to make some good deals. We are now busy with a new animated series. It is about a skippyball named Boink experiencing life in this big world. The target audience is 3 to 6 but hey we were all children once, you might like it too.

But now I am skipping to my bed. If anybody is on the road and driving by Amsterdam drop me a line. I can't promise a party like Vivek does but I can take you to the red light district and hook you up with the flavour of the month. For the more cultural types we do have more here than just sex and coffeeshops.
Love you all,
Jigal

Hope everything is going well with everybody. Glad to see URI and Vivek are still visiting. Uri I hope the next couple of months go better for you...Vivek--thank you for your comments, they meant alot to me. Well the weather here sucks--it's bloody cold out here in Misery (MO) no pun intended-HA. I'm still in treatment, probably will be for a while. It will be the third or fourth Christmas I've spent in a treatment center. Though, there never seems to be a dull moment!! I am quite ready for spring mind you and could skip the whole holiday senerio. I have to get my contining education with the Real Estate done (every other year) by April--so trying to see if I can condense the courses and have it done by January--though that at this point seems unrealistic. Still waiting to go back to school to finish my degree (economics), my bro is nearly done with grad school. Happy for him though kind of pissed at my self for not being further along--well stranger things have happened.
I'm anxious to hear how everyone is doing... Still single and loving it!! How many are we down to now??HEHE
Has any one heard from ALMA??
Keep in touch--you all still incorporate a speial place in my heart and would love to hear about your lives.
As far as politics--I think our class should run the world at least we knew more than the people in power do now. Okay enough of the grandiose thinking--hope all is well and take care of yourselves through he wonderful month of December. Hopefully 2005 will be an even better year than the ones before... Message:Hello All,
I am emailing you from my new office at my new job in South San Francisco. Just to give those of you who care an update I have now been working for this new company in South San Fran for about 3 months now and all is good. My boss is awesome, unlike my other boss who in polite terms was a shit-eating cock gobbler...I mean a jerk. Work is going ok although the deadlines are tight and the responsibilities are huge. I recently moved to San Francisco. I live in a big studio apartment with huge windows over-looking the downtown area with Alexandra, my girlfriend. We live right above a Sushi bar which is great for us but bad for our pocketbooks.

I wanted to post something after the election results came out but all I could think of were four letter explitives. Now that things have calmed down a bit all I can say is FUCK! SHIT! WHAT THE FUCK? CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE THE FUCKING PEOPLE IN MY FUCKING COUNTRY?...sorry...Something about Bush that gives me typing turrets. Anyway the post-election survey showed that one of the number one things that people voted on was "moral values". Apparently it is a sign of good morals to pre-emptively attack a country on false premises, pursue policies that ruin our enviroment, redistribute wealth to the top 2% of the country, and hate people because of their sexual orientation. Well there is always Canada...

Nicole I saw your posting and I'm extremely impressed by you. The hardest thing about having psychological disorders is convincing yourself that something is wrong with you and then in turn doing something about it, and actually having people realize that what you're going through is real. Not that it matters what people think but it does suck when people aren't sympathetic to your ailment. Four years ago when my brother was diagnosed with Bipolar, he didn't do anything about it and his destructive behaviour ended him up in prison. He's out now and living a productive life but if he had taken the time, like you are Nicole, to take care of himself he could have avoided the mess he got himself into, which not only hurt himself but his family as well. You should be really really proud of yourself Nicole. I'm sure with time and a consistent effort on your part you will continue to be successful.

Anyway guys I must get to work but look, I live in a great city. If any of you are in San Francisco and need a place to crash we have a really comfortable couch that turns into a queen size bed. I'll also throw in a drunken night of partying as if you are interested.

Keep in touch

I'm in an eating disorder/ trama treatment center. The sixth one since my junior year of high school. I cant believe that I have been in and out of hospitals, psych units for over the last decade, and still managed to keep it together on the outside. I've been here for 2 or 3 months--time seams to hold less of a meaning as each day passes. Eric (my bro) is still dating Electra--and still working at Madison University. I am still in the Real Estate--took me alot of effort not to bring my labtop and carry on work from in here. I sold another house this Wednesday :) need the money! My father retired and is also in the Real Estate. I left him with six listings and three buyers, not to mention all of his own houses and people he has to contend with. Hated to do that, but know this is where I need to be. Still working on my economics degree--I can't believe I haven't even finished my undergraduate degree yet--oh well life goes on...
Vivek--thankyou for being honest and direct about Tim--I do think of all of you from time to time. To be pragmatic--life seems filled with dichotomies, and yet the only thing that remains constant is change itself.
My time in Japan when I left fucken St. Maur and entered YIS was the happiest couple of years of my life. We all seemed so destened for something--colour, race, background--never seemed to enter our bubble, (or it least it never influenced mine). I hope that we all hold a piece of that closeness with in our hearts!

Message:Hello All,
I visited and decided that it's time for me to go into the insignificant details of my life. As some of you may know, I worked as a chemist at a biotech company in the Bay Area. This to many non-scientists sounds impressive but the fact of the matter is that I am blue-collar worker with a lab coat. Not that there is anything wrong with being blue collar but sometimes titles sound so fancy. The bottom-line is that I'm a bitch to the man. Anyway, I digress, I have changed jobs and will be a bitch...I mean chemist at another biotech company in South San Francisco. Salary and benefits are better but still the same job. In another two years I'm going to b-school, that is if the man permits it.

On an extremely depressing note, Nicole, I'm sorry to tell you and others who didn't know that Tim took his life about 9 years ago. It came as a pretty huge shock to me and Uri who were very close to him when we found out. It's sad how he died but what I would like to remember and maybe have most of you remember him by is how he lived and how he affected everyone around him. Tim was an extreme optimist, when he was around you, from what I remember, he always tried to make you laugh. WHat I and many others never knew that behind his optimism and cheery nature was a sadness, one that would eventually alienate him from the people he loved and make him feel that he needed to take his life. I'm sorry to tell you likethis but I hate it when I ask a question and people beat around the bush and don't tell me in straight forward terms what exactly is going on. This is what happened, but I hope you don't remember Tim as the "Guy I knew is high school who killed himself". He's more than that. I also hope that no one who did know is mad that I said this on this type of forum. I think we are all adults now and we can handle this. But if you would like to keep the forum at a G-rating I can understand and respect that too.

So, its 7pm! I am still at work right now at the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) and chances are I will be here until midnight. Currently we are waiting on 3 Marine applicants who need waivers to have their contracts approved and have me swear them in.
Im the Junior Officer at this station and since it’s a Friday with “mission circumstances” i.e quota’s that need to be met, I got stuck with the late duty! Its not like I have a life or anything! Either way, Im was getting bored of studying for my GRE’s and so I figured I’ll put the books down for a bit to drop a few words at our alumni site.
It has been a long time since I have heard from some people, but from what I am seeing, everyone ARE pretty much getting all grown up. That’s great, and it’s amazing how time works and how people change. It will be so strange to meet with people now. I can’t even imagine how much we all changed. I hear of People getting married left and right, houses being bought, soon we will be hearing of little babies running everywhere! My god people! Stop doing that…you are making me feel old!
For real though, I think that’s great.
As for me, I Recently had my 26th Birthday (June 14th, for those of you who forgot!) and right around the same time I got promoted. Work is not too bad except for the hours, which suck at times. I go to the gym everyday, occasionally go camping in the Carolina Mountains and just try to make time go by faster. I have about 1 year and 4 months left in service, after which I plan on getting back to grad school. I definitely am looking into the Teaching arena, most likely high school or college. Most states now have this program called “Troops to Teachers” where they hire ex service personnel to teach because of the “real life” experience they have. Anyway, that’s the plan for now. Who knows what will happen 6 months from now.
Its amazing what boredom can do at times! I can’t believe it’s almost 8pm and we are still waiting on those damn waivers! All I want is just one normal Friday where I can get back to my apartment at a normal time, kick back, have a beer and watch the SciFi channel or Cartoon Network at a normal time and not have to wait for the late night re-runs! Is that too much to ask……no really?
O well, I apologize for the neurotic venting, it’s been a rough week! Anyway….people… feel free to shoot me an e-mail. My e-mail is Monkman78@aol.com or KingofCupsIX@aol.com. It will be nice to catch up on some far away memories. For those of you that are here in the U.S. of A, I’m in Raleigh, NC right now…so if you are up and around the area, let me know; maybe we could meet.

I think things are going fine now with job sorted out, but am in the process of deciding what to do about a long distance relationship. That's the big thing for me at the moment.

Anyway, I will indeed see you at Phil's wedding, Jigal, and expect it will be pretty drunken. I hope all the rest of you are doing well and good. I am fairly reliable with e-mail, so please write.

Yes, Tim was a good guy and my best friend. I wish those of you who remember him and knew him well could have been there at his funeral. It is an event I will never forget.
For those of you who are interested, this September will be 8 years since he died. It has been so long. It is interesting for me to see how Tim is remembered by others. Talking about this with people who actually knew him is something that I missed a great deal.
I occasionally look at pictures taken back from high school. Year book pictures as well as my personal album. They brings back a lot of good memories; smiles, laughs and hangovers.
Rosie, its good to know that you kept that tape, please don’t lose it. If you do not want to keep it, please let me know and I’ll gladly take it.
Well, for those of you who are interested, I will gladly talk more about Tim and gladly hear any stories from the past about him. He was a good guy with a good heart.

Take care: Uri

I'm living in Portland, working a boring day job to pay the bills while trying to be a filmmaker/editor on my own time. It's hard to believe that it will be 10 years in June that I left YIS. Weird.

I just had to write when I read Vivek's post. I feel really lame, because I did not know about Tim. I totally remember him. He was hilarious. I remember him once saying in a class that his dream job was truck driver - I don't know if he was being serious or not. I also remember he was the guy who taught me the term "lougie". I actually have a video tape I shot on our Minami Zao field studies trip with lots of footage of Tim. I am so inspired to watch it again. Thank you Vivek for posting what you did.

Message: Few days ago I found an audio tape (remember those antiquated devices we used to use!) I played it and I heard a familiar voice...it was Uri! 8 years ago, Uri sent me a tape instead of a letter, and I just found it and listened to it opening up a floodgate of memories. I remembered all sorts of shit..crushes I used to have...basketball...Tim Cantu. I hate being somber on a website that is supposed to be about the happy, but do you guys remember Tim at all? I know Uri and I do. Well if you don't, he was the guy who had the nasaliest voice you have ever heard, and sometimes when he laughed he sounded like Steve Urcle. HE could do the 100 m in 12 seconds flat and he was from Oklahoma..the land I used to joke had only two things...queers and steers (it's from a movie). Most importantly though, Tim was my friend and he was a good person. Since I found out that he died I've never even thought about him, nor have I said anything about him at all. Tim and I were kindred spirits, because for a period of our high school lives we were loosers together and there was no better way to bond with a person.

Now that I've probably depressed the hell out of all of you, do you guys remember Tim? Anything else about him that I have forgotten or possibly don't know? FOr all this time I spent forgetting I kind of want to remember now.

Message:Hello again all. A few words to update on what I've been doing, and people I've seen of late.

I'm in the process of changing jobs now, which is interesting. I have had what I think may have been a final interview with Barclays Capital in Tokyo, and have a final interview with Accenture in London next week. I've been studying Japanese each week with a private tutor to try and improve my Japanese to help with any job I can get in Japan. Still very hard because foreign languages were never my strong point, but it is fun.

I talked to Alma recently and she is engaged to Shai, her long-term boyfriend. I did wait a while to see if she would announce it herself on this site, but couldn't wait any longer! I also see Mayuko Yamada quite a bit in London, and she's doing fine.

Good to see other people coming to this site. Hi Vivek, sunny California doesn't seem to have gone to your head so much...I guess you may be the one American anti-war person that was mentioned on BBC News the other day. We in England are also not so keen on this whole war thing. Bit worried to see that Japanese soldiers are also now getting involved...

So anyway, should my job interviews go well in future, I will be coming to Tokyo by the end of the year. Can anyone help me out if I do manage to get there as I'm sure there will be many problems for a foreigner in that town...

Alex.

Message:Happy New Year all!

Today I just got out of my bunker to wish you all a happy new year. I read this report on the last source of "fair and balanced news" (teen People magazine...what?! they're always right, for example that chick from Honey is HOT!!!!!) that the world was going to end in 2004. Apparently all computers were going to think it was 1004 and then all the christians and muslims in the world were going to start killing each other thinking it was the 1st crusade and some psycho from a third world country...oh wait I'm forgetting my political correctness, I mean a developing country filled with dirty, poor, less sophisticated people was going to push a bottom releasing an atom bomb straight for Micronesia. And since they are a part of the coalition to free Iraq we would respond and then world war 5 would start (WWIII is the cold war, WWIV is the war on terror, WWV would then be the war for the revenge of Micronesia). So I decided to be prepared and made a bunker, stocked full of canned food I even wrapped my body in duct tape. I came out a few days later when I realized that I was wrong....FOR NOW! At any rate happy new year and may this year give you whatever the hell it is that you want.

Oh yeah Tahseen I think I should worry more about the crack than I do the coffee.

Regards,
Vivek

Just wanted to say hello. Once in a while I drop in, when I'm feeling nostalgic, I sit and I read all the responses from people. People I used to know, Michi, Ernst, Alex, Uri, Nicole all these guys that were people I saw everyday. Then I sit there and remember that that was ten years ago. I then take my hand feel my aging face, my emerging bald spot. I remember where I was, Yokohama Japan, what a place and then where I am now..California. The third largest economy in the world. Run by a former body builder, turned groper, turned bad actor, turned serial groper, turned governor. Then I think to myself atleast I'm an American. Atleast I can push people around and "pre-emptively" punch a man in the face because he had two arms and therefore, the "ability" to punch me. I have the god given right to hate the french, and rename my fries "Freedom Fries". I can read the news everyday and watch American...I mean coalition troops die and know that they are dying protecting me from, biological weapons...wait no I mean terrorists, wait no that wasn't it either..protect me from a really really mean guy saying really bad things. And my favorite part is being able to call anyone I want a terrorist or a terrorist supporter. That is so much fun! You don't agree with me, you damn terrorist! You have a unibrow, you damn terrorist! You don't like what my president is doing, you damn terrorist supporter!
At any rate I rant, I'm happy in Californai with my beautiful Nicaraguan fiance but what I have found is that with age I haven't gotten wiser, just more cynical.

Someone was talking about feeling old because friends were getting married. Amen!

If anyone has an interest, I'm going to medical school after all. I will attend Saba University School of Medicine, on a 5 sq. mile island in the Carribean. Yes, I'm serious. And yes, it's a legit school. I actually know several docs who went there.

Hope all are well. Take care.

So Ernie, Uri, Nicole, Tahseen, Lens, and even Peter made it to the site to sign! Incredible. The guys from the classes above us all meet quite regularly in London, but I guess most people are not in Europe./

Anyway, I'm looking now to change job and country. My job's still interesting, but I'd like a human wage and a change of scenery. I'm looking to return to Japan to work so I'm studying Japanese after work each night now and doing language exchanges in London. It's really hard to get any breaks though from London because employers don't want to take the risk of bringing someone all the way over to Japan for interview. Can anyone help? Basically, I'm looking for an analytical kind of job, either in equities, or just your bog standard market analysis. I've got experience etc.

Aside from that, most of you probably don't know that I'm going out with a lovely Japanese girl called Kozue, and have been for the past year and a half now. That's just one reason why I want to return to Japan though, because she has also returned to Osaka from London.

Well, I'm happy to write to all or any of you, and my e-mail address is clearly written above.

All the best,
Alex.

It has been a long time since I have had the chance to stop in this place and drop a hello.
So many people have stopped by, its exciting to see all of these names and here from them.
Considering the fact that I have been somewhat away from the world...WHO THE HELL IS GETTING MARRIED? Making me feel old!
Anyways, I am still here at FT. Benning GA. I was commisioned as a 2nd LT in the US Army in Dec and hyave been busy going to Infantry school ever since. Unfortunatly, during my time in OCS, I hurt my feet and did not tell anybody about it from fear of being recycled...either way this injury caught up with me and now I am on medical hold until the Dr's here figure out exactly whats wrong. The good news are that I might get out of the Infantry Branch and be moved to a less "Combat" oriented branch.
People, it is great to hear from all of you. I know that right now we are living through some hard time, so my only request is this. As we lived in YIS, lets not get politics involved with our old friendships. Believe me when I tell you that not all who are in the army are "for" whats going on.
I need to go now, so until next time...take good care and feel free to write to me.
Peace.

Personal life ... the rallies over here are LAME ... the whole thing smells like a Tower-Records-generated talent show ... you guys would see how f***ed up I am when I mention the stuff I'm diggin' these days; Soft Machine / Allan Holdsworth, Elvis Costello, Mr. Bungle, The Apex Theory, Celtic music, 70's soul music, prog rock ... It's nice to hear from people in a past that seems sooo far away. For those concerned I was in contact with Alma via email until about two months ago and thats when thigs were really bad as opposed to really, really bad in Israel. I too was very woried about her but she's a tough chick and I'm sure no matter what she's OK.

For those interested I was in grad school at Northwestern in Evanston (near Chicago) for a little while but decided to drop out and pursue a career waiting tables...in other words I got burned out. When I realized I sucked at that (I got fired for cursing at a customer, I swear it was under my breath) I decided to work for the "MAN" as a research assistant at a start up pharmaceutical company in good ol'California. So I'm back in the bay area, the land of plastic people who order mocha frapaccino's with soy milk topped with non-fat whipped shit. I would love to hear from anyone of you guys...even you Ernst :-) Email me, call me (408)-437-3190, or messenger me. I have AOL instant messenger and my handle is "greenandwise".

Before I go though I would like to share with y'all a weird experience I had. I saw a dude wearing a suit and tie and a sign that said "Will Work For Six Figures" and had all his qualifications which included an MBA many other accolades. Only in California, I'll tell ya.

Hope to hear from you guys.

Christmas. Working in NYC, living in CT with Andy, and
we're both stuck in the country cause they won't let us
back in if we leave - damn immigration people.

Anyway, hope everybody is doing well and drop me a line if
you're on the east coast (seems like a lot of people are
back in Japan). Take care in 2001.

Message:Who let the Dawgs out Whof Whof Whof Whof!!!!! Ok sorry for
those of you who do not know that song beause you are in some
remote village in Japan or in Europe being a raver listening
to trans. I just wanted to say hello to everyone again. I
think it is great that some of you are emailing me and we are
communicating. I made a mistake of not keeping in touch with
any of you guys and I don't want to do that again. Anyway
last time I talked to you guys I was in the process of making
a decision beween grad schools. Well I finally decided that
I liked to smoke the left handed cigarette too so I decided
to be a heterosexual male prostitute in Wakenosha Wisconsin
who smokes a lot of gunja. Just kidding. I actually decided
on going to Northwestern and I am in thick of getting my PhD
(which does not stand for Playa Hata n' degree) in chemistry
(but I am still smoking a lot of gunja!). Chicago is a cool
ass place and I am enjoying the life here except for the fact
that my roomate got mugged just a week ago, that really
sucked. But I like the fact that the booze and the women are
cheap! If any of you are in town please feel free to visit
or drop a line.

Take Care,
Vivek
