While I have always been an outdoorsman with a special concern for our natural environment, life here gives me an even deeper appreciation of that evironment in which I live than it did when I lived in the city and traveled to different areas for enjoyment. As the waters around my former home in the city slowly became polluted or infested with muck and vegitation, I took it to be a sad but inevitable matter of course in our evolution...but now that scenic beauty is right in my back yard, I share a much deeper concern for preserving ournatural environment, especially our clean water (rated third best in the world...) and lakes.

Some materials known as photocatalyst is a very powerful tool in POPs degradation, in which the most popular is nano titanium dioxide, TiO2 ( There are a lot of research paper confirm that). However, the photocatalyst is in powder form, which make the application very expensive, because the powder is wash away when in contact with water. Recently, I am able to coat the nano TiO2 on the glass marbles. When the polluted water come in contact with the marbles in the present of sunlight, the POPs will be degraded to water and carbon dioxide. I find myself wanting to wade and swim in the Bay and feel so thankful that I have supported your efforts (and even more thankful that you have been working all these years for cleaner, safer water all over the area). The effort now is to make sure the PCB sediments in the Bay are cleaned up at least as well as those in the Fox River. You all, and especially Rebecca, have been a tremendous inspiration for all of us.

There is nothing written about chlorination and other ways of water desinfection. On the end, every water must be treated with some ways of chancing it. It may be with ultraviolet light or ultrasound to change water chemical ingredient. Then we have chlorine. It's allmoste scary accompanying sound of this word. Probably anyone that had a chance to smell or taste water with incrased chlorine knows, that is not healty. But this is just a consequence of bad water treatment. It's the type of water that makes reaction so strong. In that and all the other cases it's time for proffesional way of water treatment. You need right equipement and qualified employee to control it. Lets take a look from economical side. Ultraviolet and ultrasound water treatment requires high cost eqimement. But chlorine method becomes, with lower prices of some higs cost materials, cheaper and still reliable. Qualificitated employee are needed in in all methods of water treatement. | Comments: | Act 187 is viewed by this site as a bad act. After doing research further, I concluded that Act 187 needs to pass in order for more recycled paper to be used by newspaper companies. Follow my logic. In the past, newspaper companies that couldn't find the 40% by content recycled paper would just apply for an exemption and they would not be fined. That is because there isn't too much high percent paper out there. By reducing the percentage to 33%, it will be harder for the newspaper companies to say that they can't find it, and will become MORE accountable for the paper they purchase. If you make the percentage higher, it makes the ignorant environmentalist happy, but the intelligent environmentalist digs a bit deeper to find the reasons behind the act. I am in favor of Act 187 because it will be easier for our government to actually ENFORCE the fines on companies. |

| Comments: | I live in Marshall, about 25 minutes from Madison, off Highway 19. This village of 3400 people has had a significant ground water infiltrate problem since at least 1993 that is costing its lowest-income citizens huge dollars annually. The Village of Marshall bills this group of people at least $100,000 a year to pay for the inadvertent processing of clear water in its sewer output. The property owner won't spend the money to upgrade the plumbing, and the Village refuses to require upgrading because it benefits significantly from this influx to its monthly cash flow.
Is this kind of problem anything that your group would be interested in publicizing? Our homeowners association would like to form one or more affiliations to fight this problem. We're at a loss where to align our efforts so that we might have the most impact. Over five years, several Wisconsin Government agencies have brushed off our concerns. |
