Comments: ‘Nearvana – San Francisco’ Tinnitus…I think this is this the second Nirvana Tribute album I’ve seen the first being ‘Punk Tribute to Nirvana’ which had the likes of Green Day, Flipper and ICU it had a few good songs. So this ‘Nearvana – San Francisco’ is a good addition to the old music library cause it has 21 covers by 21 indie San Fran bands that pull off these songs with true grit. It’s released on a fairly new label (I guess or at least I’ve never heard of it before) Tinnitus Records. They have a nice selection of Psycobilly – Trucker – Rock A Billy bands and a variety of local San Francisco bands that I’ve not heard of but are very good so much so that I’m looking for releases of there own music. It’s one of those CDs you can listen to from beginning to end without wanting to fast forward. I highly recommend it!

Comments: WARNING - PUNK ROCK TRUCKER TUNES OUT NOW!!!
That’s right the San Francisco based band Crosstops just released yet another brilliant bit of music that has me trading in my Doc Marten’s in for a pair of cowboy boots (not really) but if you aren’t kicking your heels up with “Cloverleaf Fandango”
you’re clinically dead.

Comments: 21 Nirvana Songs covered by 21 San Francisco Bands its ‘Nearvana– San Francisco’ on Tinnitus Records. I was thinking hmmm not another tribute album reminiscing on SF bands from way back when I use to live there that I would of love to have seen do Nirvana covers like Steel Pole Bath Tub, Bomb and Dead Kennedy’s. I actually picked it up to support my friend’s band El Destroyo who did a cover of ‘Dumb’. It’s really really good. All the bands do very unique versions of songs… it’s kinda how San Francisco use to be in the early to mid 90’s. Not only do it bring back fond memories of Nirvana but of what a great place San Francisco is for pint drinking, tattoo bearing, appendage piercing, out of your head bohemian artistic freaks!
Some other artist that did some cool versions – Crosstops ‘In Bloom’ (Rock a Billy),
Storm ‘Rape Me’ (female fronted), Binky ‘Pennyroyal Tea’ (Caballero Punk), Hellworms ‘Milk it’ (Dead Kennedy’s meet Steel Pole Bathtub vibe!!!), Hotbox (Female madness), Chantigs ‘Come As Your Are’ (kinda Per Ubu vibe), The Postmen ‘Very Ape’ too many more to mention. Definitely a great CD. Check it out and help support my bros from El Destryo. J

Comments: If you dig Drinkin’ N Brawlin’ KICK ASS music your gonna love the Crosstops. . Crosstops just put out a new CD “Cloverleaf Fandango” and it hasn’t left my car stereo since I got it! Definitely my summer CD. Check it out if you can well worth the money! These guys rule. Take Super Suckers or Gas Huffers and throw NOFX in the mix with a six pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon and some rattle snakes and your pretty much got the Crosstops. You can download some of their music for free off their site www.crosstops.com.

Comments: Hey peep’s I just picked up this totally cool new CD by the Crosstops outa Francisco called “Cloverleaf Fandango". One of my favorite bands on Epitaph was RKL, I’ve always been bummed that they broke up. The Wooper formerly RKL - Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s – DRI and Hotbox started this band up (kinda Super Suckers vibe - BUT BETTER) that fills the void. They are definitely big rig - punk rockers with cowboy boots on, way rockin’! They are going on tour and you definitely shouldn’t miss it, one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. You can check out their website for more info music downloads tour dates etc. www.crosstops.com.

Comments: I just heard The New Morty Show
album ‘Rigormorty’ on Slim Style Records and was
I surprised how cool it was. They’re from San
Francisco though you’d think they were straight
out of Las Vegas. They have some traditional
swing on the album but they mix it up a bit,
kinda like Save Farris meets Less than Jake. The
first track Back to Bed is probably my favorite
track, the vocal tone sounds a little like Gwen
Stefani. They do a pretty funny cover of
Unskinny Bop (by Poison) and Hungry like the Wolf
(by X as in E Cervenka and John Doe). The rest of
the album is perfect with a martini or a drive
through the country in a convertible. I was able
to download several of their songs off their
website http://www.newmortyshow.com/ or their
record label http://www.slimstyle.com/. If you
like Save Ferris, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Big Bad
Voo Doo Daddy or Brian Setzer you’ll most
definitely dig these guys.
