| Comments: | I've done quite a bit of genealogy researching as of late, and have found my ancestors have been right here in NJ since arriving from Scotland around 1685 in Central New Jersey. Problem is, it appears there were at least 2 William Davison's coming from Scotland within a year of each other right here in New Jersey. One married Margaret Oliphant, the descendant of Walter Oliphant who married Elizabeth de Bruce, the daughter of Robert de Bruce, King of Scotland. It would be nice if this is my family line, but we shall see. Regardless, this explains very well why I felt so at home with my friends Andrew, Angus, Jimmy and of course, Mr. Budge. To Julie Mitchell and Jock, thanks for the conversations we had. To the few that tried to convince me Davison was English or Irish, piss off you dumb ...... Cheers. |

Great times, Jolly's, Edinburgh, Stracathro(spell) my best tour for sure.I even told the CO I'd reup for 4 more if they would let me finish up my tour there. Me and 2 of my mates constructed those radomes out on the tarmac with the boys from Bendix and another project I worked on there was the hazardous storehouse for the thermite(we called it the thermite shed) and the rigger shack for the "squirrel cage" I single handedly dug that utility trench with pick and shovel of course alot of it was done for EMI...lol any way I will never forget Edzell or Fiona Robertson from the Whitfiels of Dunn. |

| Comments: | So very nice to hear from Wayne Watson today who remembered my father Harold G. Wetzel (now deceased) fondly. Thank you Wayne! For those of you who are on Facebook, there is a page called "Edzell Brats" and some of us "kids" post on there. If you are looking for some former shipmates, you may be able to find their children on that page and be able to reconnect that way. Or maybe just pop in and let them know that you remember their Mom or Dad....a few folks from here have done that for me and it's been touching. Dad LOVED the Navy and especially loved Edzell. The hardest day of his life was the day he retired. I can vividly remember how his lips quivered as he saluted and walked through the line of his shipmates for the last time. It was my lips quivering at the funeral home when the FRA came and called "roll call" for the last time. Even though he had been retired for nearly 30 years, he still wanted to be buried in his uniform. I so wish he was still alive to enjoy some of the connections he could have made via the internet. |

Lived in the Edzell Hotel for about 2 months while waiting for a unit to open up in base housing. The people at the hotel were GREAT! I remember when we first got there, I wasn't familiar with the exchange rate, yet. Went to buy some tobacco for my pipe and was a couple pounds short so said I would come back later. The lady there, who didn't know me from Adam, insisted I take the tobacco and pay her next time I was in town. Such nice people, the Scots. I loved Scotland! |

| Comments: | I enjoyed my tour in Edzell, but, unfortunately it was my first duty station and I did not realize how lucky I was to be there. The base had only been opened for a year (1963, or so I was told). I still have fond and wonderful memories of the Sailors, Marines, and Civilians (in Montrose). Two weeks after my arrival, we changed from the "Radio Shack" to the big main building. I still remember clearly the burn barrel door flying open and the paperwork scattering all over the runway! What a day! I wonder where the wrecked red sports car that was placed by the Main Gate is today, I remember the sad cause of it being there. |

Life is good, a couple of curve balls like Carolina being diagnosed with Scleroderma - rare & incurable and not a whole lot of fun. Family, friends and prayers have been and are very welcome. Work is super - never thought I would have another career (after 25 in the Navy), but I am working on 11 now with association management in the travel/tourism industry & Carolina still working (thank God) with Hyatt (purchasing director) and Michelle is celebrating her 6th year as a Marine (Captain now) and in Quantico. As I said, life is good - truly. |

I orginally had orders to Wash DC but had to swap orders w/ another person who got rolled back in training. Have to say it is the best thing that ever happened to me. I made some of the best friends I've ever had and still have to this day. Loved the Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Edinburgh runs back in the day. My roomate was an Air Force Sgt named Archie S. | Comments: | Just returned from Scotand. Made a trip to Edzell, but did not get to the base. There was a sports car rally at the Panmuir, and it was dark before we got fininshed looking at the MGs and Triumphs from the old days. Town still looks the same. Montrose on the other hand was the same until you start looking for the old haunts: Tally-ho etc. They are gone, probably with the closing of the base. It was a good trip and I enjoyed it but was sad to see how the country has good worldly. Too many cars, and angry people. |

Ate at the rest area across from Stracathro. Huge amounts of good ol' truck stop caffine and cholestrol. The country has changed, but I'll cherish the memories of Edzell in the late 60's and early 70's. |

We were doing our time at the salt mines writing that code and keeping those systems up and running at various ungodly hours in the morning. | Comments: | Like most everyone else, Scotland (CoB) was a wonderful tour of duty for me. It was my first assignment out of school in Pensacola, Florida. I arrived there as a snot nosed 18 year old Marine Corps hard charger, eager to take on the world. I managed to survive for 3+ years there without pickling my brain and/or my liver. And not because I didn't try, that's for sure. I still love a nice pint or two (or 6) and a few hours at the dartboard. Good times for sure. :-) My now ex-wife Shirley was the 1st female CT(R) "in the building" and we have some stories about how her arrival was perceived and how she was accepted. We were there from Apr75 - Jun78. She worked in "33" initially and later moved down the hall to "32" where I worked. She actually got out of the Navy in late '77 and after a couple of months stateside came back for the duration as a civilian. We were also one of the 1st half dozen or so families to move into the new Brechin Housing. Our neighbors next door were Clint and Kathy Roden (also a Co B Marine), a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman (Medical) whose name I can't recall and across the street were CTR3 John and Jody Luckey (NSGA). Prior to moving into base housing we rented a cottage in Edzell just beyond the Blue Door for those of you who remember that icon. I'd just like to throw out some names that came to mind (for many different reasons...some good...some not) while I was reading the posts on this site and reminiscing. Major Bill Robinson, Captain Bill Baker (his daughter worked in the club), Warrant Officer Robert Tessman, Linc Ebeling (Admin Chief) who used to run his PFT with a cigar in his mouth, Donny Ray Miller (also admin), Dave Zelinski(both of them), Dave Bundrum, Rich Henry, David Harrison (deceased), Pete Colby, Denny Evans, Doug McQuate, Jim Oceanrider, Mike O'Neal, John Renyer, Mike Ratliff and Bobby Kyles. I know there are a lot of folks I missed and names I can't recall off the cuff and I apologize to them in advance. Bottom line is, what a great place to live and work. Awesome country and awesome folks....both locals and military. Feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to. I'd love to chat with any and all of you. S/F Lee |

Corner House which was upstairs in the 60's is now in the front where the tea room was. the owner took us upstairs for me to remember the old days. Thanks Alastair. Took a taxi up to Edzell where the base was. They let us drive around and look at some of the old buildings. Some where still there from the 60's. The main gate is located near the Chapel now. it was fun showing my old haunts to my family.......Then went to Dundee to visit in laws.... will be going back again ...Lord willing..... |

| Comments: | I was a Marine stationed at Edzell from 78-81. That was my first tour and probably the best of my career. I really enjoyed the place, the locals, and the people I worked with...maybe not the weather so much though. Some of my fellow Marines included Glen and Gordon Goetz, Larry Flemmer, Josue Vargas, Joe Dornbeirer, Vito Gonovese, Tony Flowers, Maggie Bianchi, Mike Dobbs, Mike Clemmens, and Joe Palmieri, just to name a few. I retired in 1998 as a MSgt and currently do intel work for the Coast Guard in Virginia Beach (Dam Neck). I would love to hear about where life has taken you since then. |

| Comments: | At Edzell 1969 to 1970; the bowling team was great. Anyone remember Mr Kidd from Supply and Alan Shepherd from Finance? The Scottish people were such nice people. Still looking for Bob Wynne, the Chief Storekeeper, who was a good friend of mine. Anyone know anything please contact me. |
