I have been watching ice-skating competitions for 38 years now; and you guys looked very nice.

I am a proffesional dancer, and my specialty is lifts, have 31 years of experience, and I would like to introduce my expertise in the world of ice-dancing.
I have a huge variety of lifts that can enhance any choreography.

Hi, Charlie. Congratulations on the recent competition in Germany. Kudos to you and Meryl! Your friends at Roeper are keeping an eye on events. But we also are hoping to make contact with you. We have discovered that we do not have a current contact means for reaching you. Emery Pence is handling Alumni Relations now and he has been trying to get a message to you through Alex somebody who is a skating coach, Denita Sims in Development told me. Do you have an e-mail address that you would be willing to share with your former teachers. Hi from Linda Pence and Linda Vernon also.

I have to disagree, especially with the comparison of Belbin/Agosto's 07-08 OD. I mean, firstly, was that program of B/A THAT badly received??!! If I remember correct, B/A won two GP events with very high marks on this particular segment (OD), and they actually placed FIRST in OD at GPF that season, in front of French D/S and Russian D/S, you can check the results on ISU site. They did not score well at worlds, but there were other reasons for it we all knew. That says, I don't see Bollywood choice that an adventure, it all depends on the choreography and ACTUAL skating. I think it'll be better for us to make any comment after we finally get to see what their programs look like, rather than bash in the off season.:)

______________________

From what I have read, after the first 2 GP events, the judges told B/A they were having a hard time relating to their OD, so B/A and Igor Shpilband had to change it to a less authentic, more stereotypical version to please the judges. It is this version that was shown at the GPF. I place no blame at all with B/A and all with the judges, who think Appalachian = Cotton-Eyed Joe. This is why I worried that if Davis/White were to pick Indian from India, the judges wouldn't understand when they don't do something straight out of a Bollywood movie.

When I wrote my initial post, I had no idea they actually HAD picked Indian folk dance. It is some crazy coincidence. But now that they have chosen their theme, I will say this - dear Meryl and Charlie, I hope that you may have the conviction to stand up for your program and that you will not cave in if the judges make such ignorant comments this time. I hope you have fun with this dance, I think it will be a stunner.

So, the FD music choice comes out much earlier this year, and I have to say, I don't really buy those comments over the discussing board when just hearing about the skaters' choices without actually hearing the selections they chose. I mean, one should wait patiently until get to know which parts from those compositions are chosen before starting out all kinds of criticism. That says, I personally like D/W's FD music choice very much for the new season and I think they really suit the characters quite well, better than some of the couples who skated to Phantom before. Some skating fans just don't have brains/tastes of their own and only know how to follow other's bashing on "over-used" music to spread their blind hate, which to me is so childish and irresponsible.

COMMENTS God, Bollywood would be such a bad idea. What happened to Tanith Belbin/Ben Agosto in 07-08, with their American folk OD, could happen to anyone who does Bollywood, since the judges will have preconceived notions of Indian dancing. If you do something too stylized, the judges will say you're not traditional/authentic enough. If you go for authenticity, the judges will say it doesn't look what they thought (aka doesn't fit their stereotypes).

One more thing, if you're going Bollywood, I'd highly recommend looking at old, classic Bollywood songs through youtube (many of the big, big hits back in the day even sound folk-like). Anything with Amitabh Bachchan is usually gold;) Or even try real Indian folk!

I hope to hear your music choices soon! I'm rooting for a polka for your OD, but I'm sure your programs will be fantastic whatever they are. I hope you enjoy the Olympic year.

Hi Meryl and Charlie, love your skating! I remember seeing the idea of a Bollywood OD being thrown around on some message board a while ago, and while I'm not advocating that, here are some classic tunes if you do decide to go that route:

Pyaar Hua Iqrar Hua - the Indian version of Singing in the Rain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HijuQ_ZpfXE&feature=channel_page

Joota Hai Japani
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkoISVCJwhs&feature=channel_page

Two of the most well-loved songs in all of Indian cinema. They're folk "sounding," at the very least.

I echo that suggestion. It was such a gorgeous piece, I really think you could do beautiful work with the song. And I agree on the characters, Meryl's elegant and delicate styles suits the role of Christine very well, and Charlie's strong and attractive appearance would play a perfect Phantom (as in the film 2005).

Hi Meryl and Charlie, I just got to know that you're gonna be at Grand Prix in Russia and Japan. Those are really great assignments and you have very good chance in making the grand prix final, but I guess you'll have long trips to go there and compete, since both countries are really far from US. So I hope you (both of you) keep healthy and strong, stay injury free, and have safe flights to wherever you compete. I'm looking forward to your new season and I'm sure you'll get ready for it in the summer. So good luck with everything you do, and enjoy life!:)

Your Samson and Dalila free dance is my favorite figure skating program of all time, really. It's too sad that this season has ended and we may not get to see it again? If possible, would you please make this dance, especially the slow part, as one of your exhibition numbers in the future? With less elements and more dancing of course.
