I don't think there's anything innappropriate about the singer or the use of that song for your Angelique video. Sure, you didn't create the clips nor write the song. Britney didn't originate the song, either. But it's your judgement call to use any song you want, being that these videos are your own creations and that you're not making a profit off of any of this. Anyone who has a shred of creativity within them would be able to understand that. No offense to the nice ppl on this board, just the trolls. ;) |

I found this page several days ago and my daughter and I have to watch the promos every night! Angeliques prerogative is brilliant. Being the Angelique fan that I am I have very much enjoyed that one. And the Christmas present one brings tears to my eyes everytime. I've also got to compliment you on the two with the "Young & the Restless" theme music. Your drawings are beautiful and I love your choice on that music. This is to Ashli. I think the montages and promos the site owner has created using broadcast material from DS is perfectly in line with fair use. Tacitly or otherwise, Dan Curtis Productions, the owner of DS, has allowed fans to use material from the show for fannish purposes. Apart from everything else, sites such as this can be regarded as promoting the series. Since it's not currently airing on TV, that's particularly important right now. Also, at the official Dark Shadows Festivals, they've had mini-marathons of fan produced music videos and montages. So I think that the site owner is on safe ground. The worst that could happen is that he could get a letter from DCP asking him to remove his videos from the site, and I think that it's very unlikely that he will ever receive such a letter. You seem really behind the times when it comes to your understanding of fannish culture. You should check out books by such authors as Henry Jenkins, Constance Penley, and others who have tracked the explosion of internet media fandom. Best wishes, Steve |

If you go back, I said that these videos were art to me. And you said that they werent art. And I explained why i felt they were art. But nowhere did I claim rights to the show. I didnt say I created the show. I didnt say I created those clips. I have stated this before. I was simply explaining why I found it as art. And I stated that I thought it was art as reasoning why I felt offended. I wasnt offended by the negative opinions or suggestions to change the songs, but I was offended by people ordering me to change the song. That isnt exactly the best way to state your opinion and no one should expect me to react cheerfully to those kind of comments. Of the people who didnt like the song, there was one person who kindly suggested a song. I listened to that person, tried to find the song and listened to it for consideration. I thought it was very beautiful but felt it didnt match the promo because I didnt understand its Hebrew lyrics. I think I might have offended that person when I declined to use the song, and I apologized for that. I tried to be civil, open minded, and nonabrasive throughout this discussion even though I didnt always get the same in return. I am fully aware that what I am doing might be infringing upon copyright laws. If that was a big problem for you, you should have told me before. Now it seems like subtle or unintentional blackmail; I either do what you want me to do, or you will turn me in. if you dont like the way I do things or if you dont agree with some my comments, which I think you have contstantly misinterpreted, then you dont have to come here. And I am not saying this as something you need to do; its only a suggestion. If I am offending you so much or if I am not appropriately handling this site, then maybe its something that you should try to avoid all together. But if you still want to come here, you have that right. As webmaster of the site, I essentially and physically have control of this site. Not every single suggestion will be used. Beggars cant be choosers. I stated my position and you stated yours. And I came up with a solution. We dont need to harbor on this constant battle. We wont be able to change each others opinions and any further debate will just go nowhere. You can keep on fueling the fire, but I am no longer going that route. I have the right to delete your comments, but I made the decision not to delete any messages unless they are inapproriate. | Comments: | The video clips (overall) are nice, but I should specify though they are YOUR re-edits, and are a form of expresson using the original clips, they aren't exclusively your art, because as i said previously, you didn't make the original show, and you ARE using the clips. Just be glad you aren't being caught for exhibiting the clips to begin with, because there are international copyright laws that are very strict, including the possesion of unlawfully reproduced ( without the permisson of the creator of the series or the company distributing the show) could carry serious penalties, even on young kids who try to put this stuff out for fun. If you like video editing so much, take an idea off this site -

Get over it. If you don't now, you'll have more troubles far more serious down the line in your life and you won't be able to face them. You aren't the supreme goddess of Dark Shadows, and you must be receptive to what others deem innapropriate. For some people, Britney's image (in the form of the song) being used is offensivce enough, for some, they can ignore the lryics which aren't so bad in this case, but instead things like her squeaky voice and the music behind them are unbearable to listen to. |

Ashli In Winnipeg, I guess you really dont understand my position. Maybe if you were in my seat doing exactly what I'm doing, then you would get a better understanding. If I'm wrong then correct me, but I am going to assume that you dont make videos of your own or dont really do stuff in art.So I not going to expect you to fully understand. 4ds4ever does exactly what I do, except gets paid for it and understands about it being artwork. Even though my videos consist of clips of the Dan Curtis' show, put together with music to display some kind of theme or to celebrate and promote a particular storyline, its still artwork. Just because the base isnt what I created it, I took those clips put them in a different form and transformed them into something else, while still celebrating the work of those who made DS what it was. It something that I did and no one else did. I FEEL that it is art. I am by no means claiming that I created the show, but I created the video. You may not think its art, but art isnt something that you could just put in one definition. Art has no boundaries Everyone has full right to dislike the music and has full right to have an opinion. But they dont have a right to control what I do. Thats also a main point that I am trying to distinguish. I understood when people didnt like the Britney song. But demanding me to change it is something else. And back to the Britney thing, SHE may be inappropriate, but the song wasnt. Every single word related to Angelique. Had it been sung my reba Mcintyre, there would probably be little complaints. |
