| Comments: | Hello! My name is Natalie Hirons-McConnell, I am currently the Associate Matron-elect of my chapter #514 in Mt.Orab, Ohio. I am visitng sites related or in association with Freemasonry and Eastern Star. It is my intent to evaluate how my Eastern Star chapter and district can implement modern technology into our communications. Currently we are woefully behind. Many of our members have little or no interest at all in learning to utilize technology to further enhance our order's ability to communicate with other chapters and lodges internationally which would bring us all closer together and allow for more interaction among us. As I prepare for this year as Associate Matron and next year as Worthy Matron it is a priority on my agenda to enhance our chapter's ability to communicate using technology. Our membership has grown significantly in the last few years, but many new members do not return or are not actively involved in our chapter. I am seeking guidance from elders in other chapters and lodges to assist me in my quest to enhance my chapter in any way that is possible. In the last few years we have begun to hold community festivals, participate in parades and actively pursue community awareness without garnering recognition for anything we do, which conflicts with our need to gain new membership. I respectfully request guidance from others to help me learn and develop my chapter and district for the benefit of the order. I am one of the youngest line officers in my district and gaining the trust and respect of my elders has been my objective for almost a decade. |

| Comments: | I just want to tell a little story about what Masonry has meant to me over the decades. Thirty-eight years ago I knelt at the alter to make my obligation. I had worked my way through college, married, spent my time in South-east Asia and had two sons. I was ready to become a Mason. While taking my E.A. obligation I was listening and concentrating very seriously. I suddenly I realized something very bad was happining. I stopped repeating the obligation and blurted out--stop, are you saying that any man, of any race except black could be a Mason. When the hub bub died down the Master said yes it was true. I stood up and asked to be led from the lodge. While I was dressing in anteroom an old man, ( a retired blacksmith), came out of the lodge and had a word with me. In response to his questions I told him that could not abide stupidity or unGodliness and it would shame to be a part of such a group. The old man put his arm around my shoulder and said, "You have a college education and I thought you were smart and yet you did'nt learn that you can make more difference in changing things from the inside that the outside". We have come a long way in 38 years-F&AM masons can visit a Prince Hall lodges with the permission of the Master and vice versa. Brothers, do the works of broterhood in God and 38 more years will maybe the battle will be won. |
