I do not have confirmation that the Sleaths of Queniborough,Leicestershire migrated around 1600 to the villages surrounding Gilmorton,Leicestershire which is where my interest lies. Does anyone believe the name Sleath may have another interpretation ie Skeath? In 1624 a John Skeath of Billesdon, Leicestershire left a will. He was a shepherd but appears comfortably off. In this will another family is mentioned, Skeaths of Thurnby,Leicestershire.In this village Thomas Skeath leaves a will in 1650. He was a Carrier. Handwriting in primary source documents can be difficult to read and my thought is that Sk and SL, also H could be misinterpreted. |

My father was the 3rd son of Alfred Henry Sleath's second marriage to Charlotte Norman of Ormiston. Charlotte Norman is descended from a former Governor of Queensland (Governor Norman) I was happy to read about the original HW Sleath who founded the George Street Music shop in Brisbane. My mother is also a 'nee' Sleath and is a second cousin to my father....so both my mother and father derive from the original Henry Walter Sleath. I also have spoken to Ida Sleath on the telephone, she was living at Toowong at that time, I believe she has passed away now. My mother's name is Ronda Ivy Sleath and she is 72 years of age. | What are you looking for on this site?: | I was trying to find information about a Suzanna Sleath who married my 3X great grandfather, James McAnlis in 1804 in Newton Hamilton, Armagh, Ireland. The only information I can find on her is that she was born approimately 1786 in Ireland, and died 30 June 1844 at age 58. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1821 on the Schooner Rooksby, and their family lived in the Beaver and/or Lawrence counties of Pennsylvania. I believe she had 10 children, of whom James D.McAnlis(or J.D. as he was known) is the one I am descended from. Suzanna was buried in the Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetary near New Galilee, Beaver, Pennsylvania. |

Her father was William Sleath a silk weaver, born abt. 1815 Bethnal Green. Others named on census are William, Sarah, Mary, Esther, Jane, John, Caroline and Benjamin.
