She was frightened but she soon became a part of our family and followed me where ever I went. I never needed a leash she stayed right with me and talked to me all the time. We moved back to Ohio and Katie with the bad heart came with us. After having her for almost 4 years her heat gave out but I was so grateful that DAWS took this old girl in. She was a real sweetie and to this day I miss my Katie. Yes, DAWS is picky about who adopts their pets but in my opinion for good reason. Pets are not just an animal. DAWS carefully selects the right family and I am so glad and grateful they decided we were the right family for Katie. I continue to donate to DAWS and I always will. I now have 2 great dogs but if I lived in the area I know I would have 3! |

| Comments: | My husband and I have adopted 2 cats (Nyla & Arianna)and 2 dogs (Ben & Chino) from DAWS.
We have nothing but nice, positive things to say about everyone at the DAWS Organization. I know that I am looking into volunteering with DAWS even though the commute is 45 mins. away. Without the help from all the volunteers these animal's would have been euthanized. Due to human behavior's these animal's suffer and are put to death for no good reason other than human's neglect and lack of neutering and spaying. A little knowledge goes a long way! We as human's need to realize this! If you can not adopt a pet then sponser one! They need all our help! Again, thank you for the great work you do! |

| Comments: | My family and I adopted our dog Roxie from DAWS a year in March 2005. We adore her and she has been a great addition to our family. We were ready to adopt a cat back in March of this year. So we went to DAWS and picked out little Charlotte to adopt. Filled out the adoption papers and were then turned down and told we were not suitable to adopt a cat as we had one who was declawed at one time and another that I had to return to the family we got her from because my daughter was allergic to her. This all happened over ten years ago. She has since outgrown her cat allergy and I would not declaw another cat. We adopted our cat Lexie through another pet adoption service. She has been a joy and poor little Charlotte is still waiting to be adopted. Perhaps DAWS should rethink their adoption process and maybe some of the 50 cats or so waiting to be adopted would find their forever homes.

| Comments: | I adopted my sweet boy Jay Jay from DAWS in February of 2000. After spending 6 short years with me I lost him due to complications from diabetes this past Sunday. He was a light in my life, in his furred brother Eddies and his human brother Sean's. We all miss him dearly. Especially when he gave you love and spread out his foot to show you his missing toe!
I thank DAWS for giving me one of my best friends, and I thank Jay Jay for all his love and companionship. I miss you my little man. |

| Comments: | My mama took me in when I was 4 or 4 and a half months old in December 2004. My brother Milo eluded mama, and was adopted within a week of myself. How my mama found out is that she was hanging outside with me (I LOVE my leash and harness!) when we found out a few months later. Mama didn't know we were living in the basement across the street. She knew we were homeless due to the fact that we were licking up tomato sauce from the ground.
I have been her therapy pet, so I have the extra security of always having a home where I am more then loved and spoiled! As for my leash and harness, it is the only thing I know with mama and am very well mannered all around. I am the defination of a lover and not a fighter, even though I am skiddish of those who I don't know well. Mama and I also like to "hang" outside on nice days. My favorite toys are shelled peanuts, green beans raw, and the stem that grapes come on. Home is currently very small, and we'll be here for at least another 6 months. I'm a unique loverboy and mama wants to find me a girlfriend/buddy who we can really bond with, and she wants to put the "feelers" out now because of the leash and harness being a must. |

I think this web site is just grand. What a wonderful idea to be able to connect with other animal lovers. Currently I share my life with (4) cats, (2) of which are quite old. Joker will be 16 yrs.,old in January 2006. Joker has diabetes and gets his shots everyday. Bella, will be 17 yrs. old in March 2006. My other (2) cats are about 8 yrs. old. And, seem to be doing ok. I also have (1) dog, Simon, a 2 yr. old Shitz-Tzu. He absolutely loves to romp and play with all his cats. Sometimes, I think he thinks he is a cat too.I hope others will correspond with me. It's not very good, but it's ok. Anyway. I love the site and the shelter. Belle is my favorite cat. She loves climbing into my lap and letting me pet her. I'm so sorry about Mikey (who I assume has died, because it said "In Loving Memory-we'll miss you" next to his photo). | Comments: | I was walking to the gas staton taday in Waterbury Ct by the home depot/petsmart parking lot when I saw a dog in the middle of the road. Someone tied her to a tree and abandoned her in that parking lot. She must have just had puppies cause she is still full of milk. All anyone in the area was able to tell me was that she had been on that same road for a couple of days and that she was hit by a car and bleeding but she wouldnt let anyone touch her. Finally after 3 hours in the rain the little girl was ready to give in. She needs tons of love and i cannot keep her because i am pregnant and have another dog who does not get along with her so i have them seperated in two different rooms in my 2 room apartment. i desperatley need someones help for this little angel. please contact me mommamonk2b@aol.com |

| Comments: | last year we adopted "chanceless", an exceptional dog from DAWS. she was a stray from south carolina and she had been transported up north, hoping for more adoption possibilities. not only had "chanceless" just given birth, she had heartworm and various other ailments. the folks in s. carolina named her "chanceless" because they never thought anyone would want her...a "plain brown dog" was her description. our family fell in love with this wonderful creature, who is now named "ruthie". we have since moved to los angeles, where ruthie leads the good life with her border collie mix brother, louie, and our three children. ruthie is a constant reminder that everyone deserves a chance...that ordinary brown dog is now magnificient in our eyes. |

| Comments: | We adopted "Stubby" in March (2004) and she's doing great. She's very smart
(when her water bowl or food bowl is empty she carries it into us and also looks for any water that dribbled underneath before we fill it up again). She is apparently a mix of notonly Hound and Shepherd but Rottweiler and Labrador. She barks at people when they come to the door, but only to be petted. She's very sweet and the kids love her and she loves us. |

| Comments: | DAWS helped me alot with resources when I found a mother cat and her kitten in my woodpile last year. The kitten is now my pet. I trapped the totally feral mother and had her spayed and released her. She visits twice a day for food but I still can't handle her. My 13 yr old dog just died last week and although it is too soon for me to adopt again, I am sure that I will find a beautiful dog at DAWS when I am ready. |

| Comments: | I love DAWS!!! i couldn't think of any other better animal shelter than them!!! i adopted my male cat, Murphy,there which he's on the "Happy Endings" page.he's the most down to earth cat i've ever known!!!! i remember when i used to volunteer at the shelter for many months. i remember all the cat and dogs enjoying my accompany. hanging out in the cat room was the funniest of them all. the best part was when i helped paint the green dog shed. it was the best feeling ever. it made me feel good about myself because i knew because i would be helping the animals i had always adored. personally being with the animals was better than just sitting around my house doing nothing. the animals get lonely at times and they just need a loving, caring person like me to just sit around and pet them. if they don't have any people around they'll get bored and depressed and might get sick. ok... wait... let me finish talking about my "big butt. fat cat", Murphy. he's the most loving animal i've ever known in my entire life. when i'm not feeling well or depressed he'll be right by my side for a long time. i couldn't picture having any other cat than my, Murphy. i love him to the end. i love him with all my heart. my grandma had a bad experience with animals and never trusted them again but, when she saw Murphy it was like love at first sight. Murphy and my grandma began to trust each other. so now when my cat sees my grandma he meows and stays a few feet away from her. she thinks that he's the most beautiful cat in the world. when i take him for walk he would walk around and then just sit his big butt in the middle of the road. i can't say anything nicer about my cat because i said everything that i can posible could in the entire world about him. i could never find a better cat in the world besides my, Murphy. the love of my life that i could never life without!!!!!!! | Comments: | My family and I adopted a Cattle and Pointer mix female about 3 weeks ago. She is the one in the middle of her two sisters. We named her Blaze. When we got her home she went in my sister's toy box, must of thought it was hers. She gets along with our other dog pretty good. They play together by running around chasing each other. We take her to all of the pet shops in the area and they say how cute she is and always seem to want to pet her.
She is always there for me if I have a bad day at school. When I got soo mad at my x-best friend. she was there for me too. My friends are like aww, she is such a cutie. We will always spend a lot of time together and have a lot of fun. She is also a couch potato hehe. I have this one friend that is jelous of me becase I am never board on weekends anymore, hahah!! Very well behaved, gets along well with our cats (basically she could care less that they are even in the room), and adores our two children. After initial hesitation, she now adores her crate as her own little hideaway when she wants to take a nap. She is a joy and we are very lucky to have her. DAWS is a wonderful organization with caring people finding homes for animals that might otherwise be lost in the system or just euthanized. DAWS should be the first stop for anyone wanting to adopt a new pet. |

| Comments: | Hello, I adopted a beautiful dog named Angel from the Danbury Dog Pound around Thanksgiving 2003. Angel is truly a blessing. Everyone at the pound on Sunday was absolutely wonderful and very friendly. THe Mill Plain clinic told us Angel was around 2.5 years old and they she already had more than one pregnancy. Poor thing! Angel is now spayed and relaxing home with me. She is an all white with black spots all over her skin. Everyone told me she was a Pitbull, but i didn't believe it. I guess she is, and she must have been used for breeding. Angel is now getting back her childhood. She loves to walk and run outside, as well as give kisses and relax on the couch with me. |

It killed our oldest dog this past Monday. The vets are hoping to save at least the puppy who brought this horrible disease into our home.
Our puppy was purchased by my husband from one of our local puppy mills. He was only trying to make us happy and it has turned into the most horrible 3 weeks of our lives. She had a hard life in Puerto Rico ~see saveasato.org, but BEWARE some of the pics are hard to look at ~ :-( Working with all of the caring peiople at the shelter has completely changed my life!! I started working at an animal hospital and just recently started NOBLE PET CARE SERVICES. I enjoy the freedom of having my own business, which gives me time to help with DAWS. I hve fostered several dogs and puppies and cats, and a mama cat with babies BUT I wound up adopting some!! (we went from 1 dog and 3 cats in my pre-daws life to 3 dogs and NINE cats NOW!!) BUT they bring soo much joy to my family. Rescue animals are SOO grateful for every drop of food and mostly every OUNCE of attention. AND they are forever grateful. I wanted to just take the time to honor the officers, staff and other volunteers at the shelter who put in untold numbers of hours saving, caring for, loving and sometimes saying goodbye to "their" cat and dog friends. They give these animals a new start in life, and it is deeply appreciated! Liz :-) |

| Comments: | well Brutus has a great home and we have a great new member to our family, it only took three days to housebreak him again, and he is now learning to walk with me in the fields without his leash and is doing wonderfully. he has learned his commands very quickly and has made my life whole again.

| Comments: | Hi! My sister lives in Norwalk, I lived in Wilton many years ago. Now in Beaufort, SC, we have a very active pet rescue & adoption area encompassing probably 2 shelters and 5-6 rescue agencies. We had a wonderful Pet Expo this weekend and one rescue adopted out 6 dogs. We had Pets in the Park the weekend before and hundreds of people showed up. I presume every one has these events, but in case you don't, they are very successful in raising awareness of animal cruelty, the wonder of bringing a "thrown away animal" into your life, the sheer joy our four-leggers cause us every single day. I cannot wait until our next event in the fall. We don't have our AKC shows, but we show off our best friends none-the-less!
Best to you and I must see what critters you have so I can bug my sister to bring some joy into her life! |

We were looking to add another dog to our family-[Recently we lost our Great Dane, Phoenix, to old age] and we left DAWS with two.
