It was a wonderful experience and I worked in the Orchards with our leader Alicia and I debeeked chickens in the Chicken House and made huge breakfasts outside for all the men. I remember they called me "Mrs. Walton" from the old T.V. show "The Waltons. I made great friends there, especially with a husband and wife from Tel Aviv named Avi and Sigal and they had a one year old daughter at the time. | Comments: | I lived in Sde Boqer in 1976. I learned how to grow chickens and potatoes, pick peaches from the trees, drive tractors and wash dishes very efficiently in the Chadar Ha'Ochel. I did target shooting with an Uzi in the Negev and became very fit after repeatedly doing the 'mishloach' in the 'lul', when everyone used to smoke Polaris. Then we would go to Mitzpeh Ramon to have fun. How can I forget my hut with its floor of solid and cold concrete that I shared with three 'chaverim'? I doubt it is still there. Nice lying on the floor after a hard day's work under the sun. These were the days... It was probably the best year of my life. Is Guedalia still around? Or Rafi? Does anyone still remember the boys from Brazil? I'll be back. |

Tim Sterns was one of my classmates and good friend. I think that he and his family now reside in Israel. I really had a great time. It was very difficult keeping my mind on studies. I was flunking actually. I was really into the beauty of the place, hiking down to the wadi and the oasis. Tim, Eliazer and I climbed the waterfall one afternoon. A few of us musicians would occassionaly sneek into the seminary across the campus and have a jam session. We were into Santana at the time. We were practicing for a recital that David Bengurion was to attend. My classmates got to perform for him however I was unable to, because I had to leave the country. Today, I hike quite a bit in my spare time. But the most beautiful memory was sitting outside as dusk was approaching and the beautiful hues of orange, red and purple cast a warm and calming gaze over the desert. It's an indelible memory. |

I have been married for 26 years to Robbie, who is now retired from government and starting a consulting business doing events planning, marketing,among others. He travels frequently to Israel in his capacity as a consultant on disability issues. I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor working for Camden County. We have three children: Sarina, 24, Ari, 21, Ilan, 14. Ari married Elissa Leibowitz last year and as of Thursday July 12 is now a proud father to Eliana. They came here to have the baby but will return to Jerusalem to resume studies at their respective yeshivot. My last trip to Israel was in December, '06 and now that we have a beautiful granddaughter I hope to visit more often. We think often about the possibility of making aliyah. Met Prof. Arie Issar from the Ben Gurion University at Sede Boker Campus and have become good friends. If anyone reading this desires to go to Israel, a must see is the NEGEV. Just go. I went when the scuds were falling out of the sky. Only the media reported danger, and I felt safer in Israel than in my own country. Go to Israel, you won't regret it. |

From Midreshet Ben Gurion we will observe Nahal Zin and remember the path of the children of Israel along the Zin River. and Arkrabim (Scorpion) Heights. on the Third day we visit Masada on the Fouth day Tel Dan. and on the Fifth day Mount of Olives and Garden of Gethsemane, Lion's Gate and visit Bethesda Pools. on the Seven day Temple Mount and the Western Wall and the Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem, then we drove to the mountains Judea and stop at Yad Hashomana and view their beautiful Biblical Garden. And we had our farewell dinner at Yad Hasmona and then head to the airport. |
