Hello my good friend David Coyote. Read your wonderful poem "If I could sing." I recognized the deck from your back yard, and it reminded me of our brief but warm vist with you and Pamela in December.

Just about ready to visit your awesome Playa Grande Casa and will of course be thinking of you both.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jcmannone/ Concerning your poem, "If I Could Sing",

I see that you have used that lovely picture of the fallen mulberry leaves. It had moved me also to write Mulberry Leaves back in mid January.

I see here a poignant poem, David. It so clearly shows me how death is all around us pressing into the bittersweet mystery of life coaxing it’s inevitable change to itself, to death. Yes, I can hear the narrator saying, “if I could only sing, I’d shout it from the rooftops, “I love you,” but even though the roof has crumbled, I’ll whisper it to you even louder while you sleep.”

Blessings,
John

Dear David,

We are very saddened to hear about Pamela's passing. Although she is gone, your wonderful memories will always remain. Your "Weaver's Tale" says it all. Pamela was so amazing and so inspirational to us all. Now, she is at peace and her suffering is over. She will be missed by all who knew her. We can't imagine what you are going through. Please let is know if there is anything we can do. You are both in our prayers.

With our prayers and sympathy,

Concerning The Weaver's Tale

Hi David,

I saw this before and meant to comment on it, but got distracted. Thanks for sharing it again.

A very nice parable indeed. And though not specifically a Christian writing, it is consistent with many things I am familiar with--in oarticular, the triumph over Death by Life.

A few years ago I wrote a poem simply called "Hope" in the wake of the Katrina disaster. I won't reproduce it here, except for the first lines,

"Hope is not a loose thread dangling in the wind. Rather a strand strengthened with the bands of faith and the strings of the heart."

Of course, there is allusion to some scriptures, but these are universally applicable to all caring people, cultures, faiths.

For example, when these words from Saint Paul,

"And now abides faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
--1 Corinthians 13:13

are combined with the wisdom of King Solomon,

"Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falls; for he doesn't have another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
--Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12

it is easy to see how your parable is proverbial.

Thanks,
John

P.S. As an aside, with the bitter cold many of us have been experiencing lately, the Ecclesiastes verses also remind me of "a three dog night," not the artist, but the principle behind that idiom.

Just Before Sunset - Really pretty David! I don't have much time right now, but I wanted to let you know how pretty it is. Don't have time for the story at this time though. I saw a sight like that...hundreds of dark birds...all over the Wal-Mart parking lot, for about 40 minutes. I saw this sight 2 times. They flew in various formations. They would fill the parking lot trees full, then all take off. Then they would do it all over again. Maybe they were just resting and then going home as you said. I don't know, but at the time...both times, it felt pretty eerie to me.

I've got articles due for three sailing magazines and it's too shitty to even think of checking the Haiku's bilges, so I guess I'd better get em finished before the weather changes and the sails are up. http://www.beegdogpress.com Hi David,

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the visit. I used to own one of those Austin Healy 3000s, wish I still had it. I traded it in for a VW Bug. Can you believe it?

I'm looking forward to hearing more of your work at First Friday Prose. I'll be there!

Thanks again, dave

I can almost hear thte deep rumble sound of an Alfa-Romeo exhauast.
How I miss my spyder and its wonderfdul Italian sound. Third gear was simply marveous accelerating into the long straight coming out of a service center on I-90 in NY State.
Thanks for the memories.

David, this should be a place to come to find something lovely, something you didn't even know existed, but that you recognized at once. Where the inspiration came from is not important, just that it did come, and the Den is the outcome.
Very sweet here. Very beautiful. There is a gentleness the world sorely needs.

This is a first for me visiting David Coyoteo's Den - I love it,it's inspiring, and I'm looking forward to the experience-the readings and music.
Thank you Phil Rader for your short story "32nd. Flr" I enjoyed your creative writing: young man meets beautiful Countess, and the beautiful stranger leads him to her place with paintings, and the sophistication of mainstream society, then, passions run rampant.
The Power of dreams seems to be the magical staging for our fantasies-feeling helpless, he has simply woken up.

Allow me to be a little more specific about what in your den are my faves . . .

I just had a chance to more thoroughly explore your den. It's beautiful! I remain a big fan of Ramon's--I especially like Summer of the Milksnake, and love your photo that goes with it. Perfect. Ramon has a great sense of place in all his work.

I read for myself and enjoyed even more the piece you read last night. So nicely done!

Browsed your photos as well and felt oh so envious. Not that you're such a good photographer, but that you know that art. Someday if I ever retire, I'm going to learn how to do that. I "see" photographs everywhere.

Loved them all, but my favorites were first of all the Torrey Pines. My favorite tree in the whole wide world. So quirky the way they grow away from the wind. I've done a lot of research on those and written extensively about them, in a novel, part of which was excerpted for a cover story by the Reader some years back.

Also, for some odd reason, I just loved your manholes. I think it's because they're so...so...human? They're so much a part of our mundane everyday worlds and we never look at them, yet you've caused us to see them as art. Now in your photographs, I see they're all a little different. That the maker of each has left his touch through flaw or detail.

Really enjoyed! Thanks for the invite.

Bonnie

Good to see you keep doing what you're doing. :)

I enjoyed your latest featured poet, John C Mannone, and his aquatic jewel. He took me to a place I'd never dare go to, but experienced through his words and imagery, clearly feel and see.

2006 has been a good year for me too, artistically. In May I was offered the ooportunity to be one of Poetry, Life & Times' Resident Poets. Has given me a second wind creatively:

DAVID- I saw so many friends here as I looked down the list of authors; wonderful writers like Bev Jackson. I'd love to participate in your den. If you want to use 32nd Floor, you are most weldcome, or if you'd like to see other stories, I'll oblige. I have some publication history, stories in Georgia Sportsman Magazine, Balloon Life, and a very short story of mine was a winner in a contest and was published in a QPB paperback titled THE WORLDS GREATEST SHORTEST STORIES. Tell me what I should do, and I'll do my best for you. Thank you for your interest. Philip Rader

Hi David!

We were in SD last weekend for Bob Wohl's retirement party-
I wish you had been there! It was a quick whirlwind trip and we stayed in Old Town at the Hacienda Hotel and took the Trolley to Downtown. Fun to be a tourist!

Any plans to be heading thru the Monterey area?

hiya david,

been here before, sniffed around a bit, this time just read sharon olds' letter to some poor woman, think her name's laura, dont know who she is but i think she lives in the white house.

i'm a NYer, so when sharon characterized the actions of bu$hCo as anything less than criminal, treasonous and murderous, well, what can i say? she was much too gentle... but her heart was in the right place, for sure.

good posting, david. see you around crazy jane's office.
