Comments:Report on A Chance to Dance Harrogate Weekend April 11th – 13th

Hi everyone

This weekend just gone at Harrogate was excellent in my opinion one of the best in ages. We had Adrian Churm as one of the teacher’s for the weekend and he was really good fun, he joined in nearly every dance, having a go even if he was not too sure of the dance – did not take himself too seriously and was joking around with his class and all of us. He taught his super dance CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS to John Dean’s new danceable version of the Charley Pride classic song – we love this dance and so did all at the weekend!

Adrian also taught his new dance THE GREAT PRETENDER also to the new John Dean CD – it was good as long as you remember to re-start on the right side wall and did not sing along with John and forget it! Oh dear – that was me. Adrian taught another one of his own called WADE IN to Eva Cassidy Wade in the Water – this looked and felt really great – (I did not get out of bed in time on the Sunday to do it justice – as per the norm these days).

Phil Partridge taught his new dance XANADU and as said before my class like this a lot and we danced it again this week live to John and it went down well as they like the song with its country/Mexican type feel – need to find my whip!

Mad Cat DJ taught Margaret Swift’s dance STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU also on John’s new cd and I taught our class joint effort dance TODAY I STARTED LOVING YOU AGAIN a cover of the Merle Haggard classic.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEKEND: John Dean teaching his new dance LITTLE BY LITTLE = this man’s got rhythm and great style.

John Dean sang something for everyone, classics, his own songs to which dances have been written, current floorfillers, suggestions of dances to different songs for a wonderful change. All us Deanies love to dance and singalong to JD. Calico were on the bill and I liked the steel guitar treatment of the songs and they really worked hard to entertain all the people present.

MAD CAT was not well with a bad cold and hope she feels better now.

Next one is in October and November and I believe as I speak that they are almost sold out. The hotel has a new chef and the food well it is top class, five different veg on the Saturday night, Swordfish, Tempura Prawns and lots of different things appeared on the menu.

Regards Jeanette Robson, Geordie Deanies UK

Comments:Hi all,

Just found the time to sit down and write a short review on Chance To Dance event that took place in Fuengirola, Spain at the end of November. This was sadly John Pettifer's last weekend with John Dean which was, I have to say a really good weekend.

I was lucky enough to be seated on John Dean's family table with some lovely people whom I see in Harrogate at the weekends up there and was really made to feel very welcome and at home.

DJ was Phil Partridge who was brilliant and kept us all dancing all weekend, with many golden oldies and raves from the grave, he tested our brain cells a few times I can tell you, especially when he decided to play Magic Moments during a workshop, but as he knew the dance it was great as we managed to pick it up as we went along.

The instructors for the weekend were Al Vigus and Charlotte Macari.

Charlotte taught:

Baby Jane
Knock Knock
Make Believe
Little Old Wine Drinker

Al taught:

Let It Flow
Tequilla.

John & John were our live entertainment on Friday and Sunday evenings, Saturday evening we were treated by a solo performance by John Dean, a sign of things to come.

If any of you are considering booking a Deans weekend, it is really worth the money, our travel agent Roy Ward of Line Travel is simply the best and meets you at the airport and is there for your every need.

I have already booked for Torremollinos in April and Tenerife in September as well as all four Cairn weekends and was named Client Of The Week by Roy.

John impressed me that much I've booked him for a gig in Romford at the end of March, watch this space for details....

Merry Christmas one and all.

Love

Comments:A Chance to Dance Harrogate with The Deans 12th to the 14th October 2007 Event Report

Hi everyone a small report on the Deans Event at Harrogate last week. On the bill were The Deans, John Dean, Diamond Jack and Robbie McGowan Hickie. DJ was Mad Cat Kathy Hodgson.

This is only my viewpoint please remember that and also this report is rattled out really quickly and if I miss anything apologies.

Friday night one set from the Deans and one set from Diamond Jack. I do think it is really courteous of John Dean to allow his guest bands to have the pick of the up-to-date tracks and that the Deans keep off them so we don’t have duplication of songs and dances. I really loved both the live acts this weekend as usual there was something for everyone to dance. I danced all night and my feet were sore the next day.

Saturday morning was great to hear John Dean sing Kiss Me Quick I really enjoy him singing this song and I have taught my intermediate dancers Kiss Me Quick by Hazel Pace previously and can recommend it for sure.

Robbie McGowan Hickie was really good fun this weekend – I enjoyed the dances he taught immensely. I liked the music on all the dances. He was spot on really with his workshop and the music.

Robbie taught:

(All his dances)

Thanks a Lot, music either Martina McBride, Thanks a lot or 1-2-3 by Ann Tayler which we loved – this dance was my favourite dance of the weekend to Ann Tayler. I really recommend it due to the catchy music. I have taught it already at class. This dance really perked me up this weekend.

Old Tears, music Ilse Delange, loved the music, liked the look of the dance too but did not learn it as it was taught in the afternoon and we went out shopping for the first hour.

Let It Flow, music by Mark Chesnutt, Rollin’ with the Flow, (I have already taught Growlers dance to the same music – will watch and see what happens on the circuit) love the music and loved the dance.

Dancing In Line – music by Rick Guard, music - Liked the dance. Music okay.

Stay Another Day – the music I liked for this dance was Single Girl by Fame – loved this song I have to say and loved the dance. The music was Tu No Sabes by Selena also, music okay.

Shame on Me – by Danni Leigh, loved this music and loved this dance – I really recommend it. Also Sugar and Pai by the Boots band loved this music too.

I do not have the facility to send on dance sheets please do not ask me – they will be on Robbie’s site soon and contact him please.

Mad Cat ran through Margaret Swift’s beginner dance = Feeling Kinda Lonely. Love the song and for beginners this dance is good fun.

The Deans were great – love them to bits, we had old tracks, new tracks as they allow everyone to request what they would like to hear or dance too. It has to be said that there were a lot of listeners at the weekend as well as dancers and John Dean likes to cater for everyone which to me is the right thing to do to keep your weekends full.

Diamond Jack – fun as always and nice guys what more can anyone ask for? By the way Dave I am not interested in the straight bit of George Strait! I love his voice and his persona and thoughts like this never cross my mind ever with any singers! I am past my sell by date now you know.

Hotel as usual top class – shopping in Harrogate superb. Rattlesnake Ridge western wear store at the hotel had lots of sale bargains – just right for Christmas.

Until the next one on the 16th November 2007 adios amigos. Regards Jeanette Robson

Comments:A Chance to Dance Harrogate with The Deans 8-10th June 2007 Event Report

Hi everyone as usual a great time was had by all at the Deans Event at Harrogate last week. On the bill were The Deans, John Dean Solo performance, Broadcaster. Tuition and DJ was Steve Mason and Charlotte Macari. Guest instructor was Manuela van der Heijden from Den Bosch Netherlands.

Friday night one set from the Deans and one set from Broadcaster covered a range of old and new songs, something for everyone here from dancers to listeners. Enjoyed the night very much. Saturday two sets from the Deans covering latest track of HOLDING BACK THE OCEAN which was great to hear John Dean singing and JP’s guitar, again I enjoyed Where you Gonna Go for WALK BACK TO ME. Sunday morning John Dean came and treated us to some country tracks also which was superb, I love the songs Cherokee Boogie and Chattahoochee. It was great when John sang THE BIG ONE by George Strait so we could do this latest dance by Robbie McGowan Hickie. Broadcaster duo did an impersonation of Dolly Parton and a rapper! I did like the Islands in the Stream vocals though – it sounded good.

Steve Mason taught his new dance FOREVER MINE, a nightclub two-step to Hal Ketchum’s track on his new album and I really liked this dance, can recommend it, the music is just my cup of tea and this went down well. Steve also taught MILLERS CAVE to Tracy Byrd’s You Lied To Me and apparently everyone that is teaching this dance prefers this track to the Bobby Bare track of Millers Cave = I do as well. HUSH to the Carpenters was taught for the beginner level of dances also. A quick afternoon run through of ’57 Chevy to the Deans track of same name was requested by me of Steve and he kindly obliged. The Deans sang the track on the Friday night.

Charlotte Macari taught her dance MAKE BELIEVE and this dance and song for me is a big hit, it just fits like a glove and we all really enjoyed dancing this to the Deans on Saturday night. She also taught BIG LOVE to The Big One as mentioned above. Charlotte taught COMING TO GETCHA by Jo Conroy to the alternative track of Brad Paisley’s Laughing all the way to the Bank = (Easy Money) – enjoyed this dance but had already taught Easy Money by Diana Dawson in the past and this was choreographed especially for Brad’s track and not just an alternative to Jamelia (music - no thanks). Charlotte taught LOVE TODAY to Mika by Pete Harkness on Sunday, music not for me – sorry.

Manuela taught her own dance: HAVE FUN TONIGHT and this is to the Deans Little Richard Medley and a bit of fun and an easy dance to the Deans to enjoy the music, seemed to go down well with everyone. Manuela took about 11 dancers with her this weekend and they are nice people and had a lot of fun.

The weekend was sweltering and as there was a bed race on at Knaresborough Riverside all went to the Deans Café to sample Ice creams in the heat and therefore Steve played everyone who stayed requests all afternoon in the ballroom.

New and newer dances seen: OLD ’97, Bop the B, Feel the Magic, Show Me Yours, Seven Wonders (only us), A Cowboy and a Dancer, Mi Carino Maria to the Deans Storyline track looked super, A Gigolo, Zjossy’s Funk – danced by the Dutch, looked a bit daft to me. BEST DANCE that I saw = A COWBOY AND A DANCER, Tracy Byrd by Peter Metelnick and Alison Biggs, when I taught it to my class they just wanted to dance this all night and nothing else, the song is a story and the dance fits perfectly = more like this please. Classic Dance I enjoyed dancing the most was CLICKETY CLACK and the Deans were requested to sing this.

Roll on the next weekend – not until October. The hotel is looking really posh now due to more renovations.

Regards Jeanette Robson

Comments:Its so nice to see you are still going strong John as i saw you loads of times when you were part of The Cheap Seats which is where i first saw you and did on several other occasions from Great Birchwood Country Park to the Denehurst Hotel in Church Stretton as i have just updated all my music and the only cd i can not get hold of is the limited edition live cd, I would be grateful if you could help me to track down a copy as it was a brilliant album. I am also going to be purchasing The Deans cd's as well now and i look forward to listening to them and maybe someday soon seeing you performing live after all this time and thank you for providing many hours of listening pleasure for me

Comments:Report on the Deans Weekend at Harrogate 13th – 15th April 2007.

This was definitely a superior weekend at Harrogate with The Deans, Glen Rogers and Robbie McGowan Hickie, the DJ was Cathy Hodgson a local girl from Harrogate who often posts about her A-B classes on LDUK.

Dances Taught by Robbie McGowan Hickie were:

BIG LOVE – Easy Intermediate 32 counts + one small tag, you can hear it in the music and my classes are managing to do it easily, 4 walls To George Strait’s The Big One, this was my favourite because I can use it in all my classes and have taught it and it has gone down a bomb, you can enjoy the music as it is not a hard dance. My Favourite dance of the weekend as I love George Strait’s music.

LAZY B – Intermediate 64 counts, to Lazy Bed by the Dean Brothers, CD On the Right Tracks, Alternatives: 1-800 used to be by Lorrie Morgan, I Don’t Care if you Don’t love me anymore by the Mavericks. I really liked this dance and will certainly teach it.

CRAZY FOR YOU – Intermediate 64 counts, taught to I Need a Margarita by Clay Walker, choreographed to Chayanne Loco Por Vos. This was a good dance as well and I really liked it too. Second favourite, tag with the Clay Walker track but is was a good tag – with a bit of substance to make it memorable.

CROSS YOUR HEART – Intermediate 64 counts – 2 walls – Robbie used an Australian Female country singers song that is the same as George Straits song Wrapped on his new album It Just Comes Natural (slightly slower than hers – I think she may have written it? Not sure) and I liked this dance a lot also – hmmm they were all good that was the trouble. Chorographed to: Driving me out of your mind by Tracy Byrd, alternative, No Way Jose by Ray Kennedy.

NOT LIKE THAT – Intermediate 4 walls 32 counts – to Not like that by Ashley Tisdale, pop track, I did not learn it but it looked good.

Mad Cat Taught: ONE MORE MIDNIGHT by Maggie Gallagher to Hal Ketchum’s track of the same name, all my classes love this dance and it fits lots of tracks when out and about.

THE DEANS were great – yes I am biased but you cannot help but enjoy just dancing to their music. Heartaches by the Number we did Heartbreak Express too. Hank Williams Medley= speak to the sky and floor split with Hanky Panky by Robbie, Rock around the Clock floor split with Miller Magic and Haleys Comet again by Robbie, I need your love tonight floor splits with TLC, Tush Push and other dances. They tried to catch us out with some tracks especially Sweet Nothings but me, Enid, Allan, Manuela, Angelique and Ad knew it as well as others joining in! So they did not manage to catch us out this time. The Deans sang lots of up to date tracks including Where you Gonna Go for Walk Back To Me.

GLENN ROGERS – called Unmistakably Good dance and floor split it with Come Dance with me, next time watch out we will know the dance as I am going over it again by Rob Fowler, really people should be doing this dance it is really super. Love Train called, Buy Me a Rose by Rob produced a full floor, lovely. I like doing It’s Up to You to Glen singing the Kevin Sharp song Nobody Knows.

Jenny Carol’s mum looked after my big Birman cat, Kya for me at the Deans flat as he needs twice daily insulin injections – so that Malcolm my husband could go with me and did not have to stay at home. A really nice family to do that for us.

A very few places left for June at the Cairn I believe. Also Glenn Rogers has built the Deans site to download tracks and order cds on line. Super duper stuff and it makes it easier to obtain the music now.

Most popular newer dances were Crazy Cha, Foolish Heart, Everybody’s Someone. Lots of alternative music called and danced for lots of dances.

The Cairn Hotel front lobby, reception and bar has been refurbished and it is looking really plush. The food as usual tip top, service tip top, which makes for a lovely weekend of relaxation for listeners as well as dancers, something for everyone on this hot weekend.

Comments:Hi another one from me - keeping you all updated on goings on.

John Dean was at my club on Tuesday and he sang THE BIG ONE and we all did Robbie McGowan Hickies super dance to John live.

John's first set was entirely country music and when he sang George Strait's Easy Come Easy Go - I nearly fainted!

What a night! I think John sang over 10 new tracks this night for us as a club, he worked really hard. It was amazing.

It was Queen Enid's birthday but she did not want cake so we had Pizza instead.

Comments:Hi all, two things:

Cairn Hotel at Harrogate last weekend 13th - 15th April 2007 was excellent. Really enjoyed it I can tell you.

The Deans sound was yet again superb and they were good professional fun as always. I loved dancing the best to John's SWEET NOTHINGS, we love that dance. Liked dancing Kiss Me Honey, Caribbean Calypso to John's song Love me Love Me, Little old Wine drinker, Devil in Disguise. All great. Could have joined in with Haleys Comet but did Miller Magic to keep the floor full and Hanky Panky but did Speak to the Sky as that is what John called to keep the floor full. I guess at least we are dancing to the songs which is more important than the dance? Now this is a hard one - cos if you are linedancer and you love a certain dance you want to dance it really. Would love to have danced Cadillac Baby but requested the music and did another dance to it - you can never be sure who knows what dances when you go away anywhere these days. There were groups doing Cadillac Baby, Teenage Heaven, Haleys Comet, Hanky Panky, TLC - so I reckon you just have to go for it!

Jenny (Carol's Mum) took my cats in for the weekend as Kya my big Birman has diabetes and has to have twice daily insulin injections - now who else do you know as a family would have done this? Mega people The Deans family.

Comments:Wow, wow, wow, what more can I say? Thought I'd tell you all that last night I had the pleasure of seeing our own John Pettifer in the Country Legends show at the Thameside Theatre in Grays.

I always thought this man was talented, but in this show he plays two electric guitars and a banjo and sings. He played "The Devil went down to Georgia" and was present on stage throughout the whole show.

Country Legends is show featuring singers dressing up as artistes such as Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Willy Nelson and they put on an absolutely fantastic show.

Those of you who were at the Cairn event in November would have seen the members in the group at the hotel as they were guests at the weekend, I was sat with them in the ballroom.

If it comes to a theatre near you, go and see it.

Comments:Hi all

We had John Dean last week singing at the Hebburn, Legion (20th Feb) it was a red for romance theme. Manuela and Angelique flew over from Holland and helped out again! They brought tons of Bosche Bolls (Dutch round chocolate eclairs) as they know I am really fond of them and it let the class have a taste of them - thanks for that girls.

John was exceptional this night - did Patient Heart for us, Kellys Canniballs was good to hear again, I Can't Be Bothered, Suds in the Bucket, The World, Love Me Tender, Heartaches By the Number, Love Letters - well it was for romance.

Laughed a lot and enjoyed the company of everywhere for a full club yet again - everyone loves JD!! Roll on the next one not until April - but we will be practising yet more dances - JD has some ideas up his sleeve that he will catch us out - lets see!

Love Jeanette xxxx

Ps. The November 10th Jarrow has Andrew Palmer and Sheila Cox teaching with me for John Dean's concert also.

Comments:Just got in from the Country Music & Fun event at the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch where I've had the most fantastic evening.

On the programme to entertain us were:

The Deans, Carole Gordon and Bob Newman and Tony Best.

It was wonderful seeing John & John performing live in front of me without me having to turn my back on them whilst dancing.

Also nice to see Glenn & Sammy Rogers in attendance.

Roll on April's Cairn weekend.

Love
