Life is a Patchwork Quilt

Each unique and special quality of the individual is best enhanced when joined in common cause with others as unique and special in their own right. Consider each as a patch in the the quilt of humanity. In order to make the quilt, it requires those extra special individuals who can join the patches together and produce the finnished product. Jenie LeFevre was one such person who could bring the pieces together. She will be missed by all of us who are her large family of quilt patches. Thanks Jenie, for showing us all how much better we really can be when joined together in a common cause.

I've known Jennie for 14 years. We met at the National Academy of Sciences public hearings in 1992. Jennie and I spent many an hour on the phone going over Agent Orange info and also regaring her personal claim. What a lovely person! On a funny note, when Jennie was running out of copy paper, I'd get a call at home and would hear her saying, "Mike, I'm running out of paper." Next day I'd send her a box of paper. Once, when my wife and I went to visit my daughter in South Florida, we ended up, on the way home, in Melbourne where Jennie was with the Quilts. I promised her paper and she couldn't believe I lugged it all the way to Florida to give it to her. When we got there, all Jennie could do was tell me that they put her and the Quilts right by the Porta-Johns and for three days the smell was horrendous. But, she stayed because the Quilts were too important. That was Jennie. I know this was long winded, but I wanted to share.
Jennie, you will be missed.

She shared her BVA Tape with me and I was so impressed that the long struggle she had with VA never caused her to drop her claim.
She certainly has inspired others in so many ways.
She truly exemplifies the spirit of continuous service to her country.

I met Jennie in person this summer in Napa at the Vietnam Vets' Reunion. I had to make the special trip down from Oregon to meet the lovely lady who blessed us all so on-line and to see the Quilt in person. It was so moving, but Jennie's loving hugs and bright smile was the best medicine for all of hurting over the aftermath of Nam. She had a sore throat and was hoarse--how little did we suspect what she would find when she went to the doctor on her return to Virginia.

God bless Jennie's family--thank you for giving her so unselfishly to the healing work she was doing, and thank you for continuing it. She is greatly missed, but her legacy is the Quilt and the lives she touched.

in loving tribute,

Jennie, Dear One, you'll be sorely missed by so many. But I know much as I'll miss you, it wouldn't be right to see you suffer. When you told me about your cancer we ended up laughing at each other since I'd been where you were. Like everything else you faced this head on and ended up trying to comfort those who wanted to comfort you. You're one Hell of a Lady, your smile melted the hardest of hearts, your hugs started bitter wounds healing. Your heart showed in all you did and you did so much for so many. You loved our vets and they loved you, you cried with widows because you knew their pain and that hug gave them strength. Sometimes we'd talk at night and you'd be so tired, but your heart was full and your laughter never tired. Funny how I always slept those nights. We had a bet Honey that your cancer would be gone before mine. You won but I'd rather have you here to laugh at me. I know you've found peace and knowing you, even God got a hug as you joined the circle at His feet.A circle filled with those who love you. Jennie God blessed us with you for too short a time but in that time you showed us all what Grace truly is, your love will be with us in our hearts always.
