My ancestral surnames, from that area, include Dixon/Dickson, Caldwell, Morrison, Alexander, Cochran, Davis, Hunter, McEwen, Neel, Orr, Query, and White. I descend from John Dixon who was born in Mecklenburg/Cabarrus county around 1750 and married Elizabeth McEwen. I recently received the church records from Back Creek Presbyterian Church - where many of these people are buried. If anyone is interested, I am happy to share. Also, if anyone has information about Margaret Davis who married Hugh Dickson in the early 1800's, I would be most appreciative.

Thank you,

I'm from the confusing lineage of Purviance in Old Mecklenburg and Old Anson county NC. and at a name change crossroad. Alfred Pervines was born in Mecklenburg co although I can't find records except family bible. Apparently fires in the early 1815-20 destroyed them. Alfred Married Lucretia Proper and Lucretia is buried at Weddington Cem. along with my Davis ancestors. My surnames are Davis,Pervines,Tomberlin and Harkey around Sandy Ridge township 1813 to 1899. Alfred had a sister Emily Purviance. See the name chang? Any and all help pushing me in the proper direction is appreciated before all of my hair is pulled out. :) Thank You Marty R

In 1920 H. L. Morrow Aircraft Corp was located in Charlotte. My dad, A. Maurice Palm, was chief pilot. I believe they sold rides and dropped advertising leaflets at fairs.
My dad and Mr. Herron leased a Curtiss Jenny Airplane and started the Carolina Flyers. Dad hit a telephone pole while landing the plane in the air field near the Plasa in Chatham estates. The plane was sent back to its owner and dad was out of business. I have pictures, newspaper articles and memos. Would be glad to share.

I saw her name on a web site on the computer and her middle name was spelled incorrectly. Her full name (as is on her stone in the cemetary) is Aurelia Latham Nussman. Her middle name was incorrectly spelled "Lathan". It is very important to me that my child's name is spelled correctly. I hope you are able to change it in anything that is on the computer and/or published.....thank you for your help in this matter. Sincerely, Julie Latham-Nussman

Comments:I am kin in many directions to the oldest settlers in Mecklenburg County. I am trying to straighten out family stories and records which is not easy because of I am a direct descendant of Hezekiah Alexander (not the signer, but cousin of the signer of the Meck Dec of Independence) and Hezekiah Alexander (the signer). I believe the first one is the descendant of Abraham Alexander while the later is the descendant of James Alexander. I am also descended from Nathan Orr, Alexander Queary (Query), and the Hunter family of what is now Huntersville, NC., and John Jacob Barnhardt of Cabarrus County. I am laterally connected to the Cochrans, the Gallaways, the Reids, the Caldwells, the McWhirters, the Morrisons, the Craigheads, the Pharrs and the Whites. Any help that anyone might be able to give me would be appreciated. I especially would like to know the location of the Orr Place in what is the Newell Hickory Grove area, not far from one of the Alexander plantations.

Thank you so very much!

Name: Kelly Marberry

Comments:I am descended from the IRWIN family of Mecklenburg Co., NC. Hugh was apparently born in Ireland around 1725, married Martha ALEXANDER (no other info on her) and first son Jared IRWIN was born in Meck. in 1750. He later became Governor of Georgia. Second son Alexander IRWIN (my direct ancestor) was born in NC around 1752. Other children were John Lawson IRWIN (b. 1755 in NC), and possibly 4 others (Hugh, William, Margaret & Sally) who were all born in GA.

If these names strike a note with anyone, please let me know! Thanks so much.

Name: Joanne Brown Revell
E-mail address: JRevell@fsd1.org
Comments:I have just begun checking out the resources available in Mecklenburg County. My great-great-grandfather, John W. Brown, was in this County in February of 1828 and married Mary Herron (some write Harran). They had one son, Samuel, and then Mary died December 31, 1828. He then left and went to Lincoln County, Georgia, where he met my g-g-grandmother. Mary Herron is buried in Steele Creek Cemetery in Mecklenburg Co. and I did find this record. I am thankful to folks like you who build and maintain these websites so we can research our ancestors without having to actually travel there. Thank you, and keep up the good work! Would love to hear from anyone with any connections to the Brown or Herron families.
