As I am a paleontology Interpreter at the dinosaur Discovery Museum her in Kenosha, Wisconsin, I am constantly reminded of the similarities in behavior and structure with that of therapod avian dinosaurs, but of course the main reason I am delighted with his is his intense intellect and sociability. I have a number of prehistoric replica creatures here in the house and my bird has decided that the dimetrodon, with its coloration and tall dorsal "sail" is a relative. He enjoys sitting next to it and will preen its sail! He also enjoys recorded music, especially my mandolin practice. If I am playing music on my sound system he will sit on one of the speakers. He prefers high ranges to lower registers and tries to sing along with female singers. His favorite tune is Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Take the 'A' Train". |

But nippy birds can be taken off if you lean over and put them on their cage it works too. But then i just put on a glove and push him onto my hand. |

However in the past 2 months or so she has become a very bad biter, draws blood everytime . She used to love to get up in the morning and now she starts like this hissing like noise and then like rocks back and forth trying to strike at me. Finally, I just take her out with her blanket... I have bought every book out there. We live in the Northeast, Berkshire County. Now that the sun is getting higher and days are longer, I thought that I would try sunlight... I am starting to not like her,(not really)jus discouraged. I love her dearly like my baby...

I walked up to the cage and started to talk to it and it came right over to me and allowed me to touch it. It was purchased by my daughter, Jessica, for her birthday. She is an adult with a 8 year old son. I know that a pet shop purchase is not the best way to get an animal, but that is what it is and we have a new family pet. She is planning to put it in a glass case cage that measures 30" X 30" X 36"H. I'm not sold on the glass case. Please reply with your suggestions. Thanks for all of the info. Jim |

| Comments: | I acquired my GCC from a man on the Big Island (Hawaii) at approx (8) weeks. He is a wholesaler who hand raises parrots of all types. My "Little Man" Pixie and I bonded immediately in spite of him fracturing his Tibia during his first week in his new home! My Vet was able to give him a Blue Cast and White Collar (to keep him from removing the cast) and his leg was healed in (2) weeks. I only wish his human family would heal so well. Anyhoo, it's just me and my 18 y/o daughter living with him. Pixie adores her, but it is not reciprocated. I also have (3)Peach-Faced Love Birds who were born in their cage. I raised their Mom and Dad from babies and was thrilled when I saw their family. Unfortunately, Mom and Dad bailed (they figured out how to work the cage door) when the babies were (6) weeks. I then took over and only had to hand feed for a couple weeks. Pixie now imitates them to a tee. He is a wonderful companion for me; now he's (8) months old-says "Pretty Bird", "Love Ya" and laughs - "Ha, Ha, Ha". He also loves to have me scratch his belly, neck, body, etc. He is quite the cuddler; he is 98% Potty Trained and sleeps with me at night. He has many favorite activities ranging from chasing our cats to playing with the computer, calculator, and various toys. I think he is the most comical when he gets mad - it is hysterical to see him get all puffed up, attack his bell (or whatever it is that angered him), and then strut up and down on his long bamboo swing - it hangs on the inside front window. I take him every where I go and other people are fascinated by him as well. I could go on, but will stop...

In the AM I always find her gently nipping me or just sitting on my hand. She NEVER will let me just pick her up- she used to.............. You can expect a bite if your hands come too near her. Most frustrating.

| Comments: | Just wanted to say I have found this site to be rivetingly interesting and incredibly informative and useful from my perspective as new companion to Pebble, a Cinnamon Green Cheek.
I've had him for just a week but already we're lifelong pals. He closes his eyes while I tickle/preen him and then he does it gently back to me on my fingers and nose. My partner also has a Green Cheek that we got at the same time. We generally keep them in separate rooms but they still have squawking matches a few times a day. Practically all the information I could have asked for and a lot I didn't think of I've found in your FAQ - brilliant! The only thing I'd like more info on is, is there any way to improve the squawking? Can they be taught to do it less or is it just something we have to put up with? Thanks again! |

I have a pair of lovebirds and a canary and have had budgies and tiels in the past. I had to laugh at the pet discriptions as they are sooo Eun Trang. He says, Evil Bird, What and I have no idea where he got this-just started saying it one day: "Butt wrinkle." |

Our daughter lost her parakeet (Sampson) last week and even though we have two minature schnauzers, the house was just too quiet. No More! Our Conure, though I'm told is one of the more quiet of the species, has made herself known. We already are in love. She's a friendly, loving, comic who, in only two days, has managed to mezmorize our puppies (Hansel and Gretel)and become a total delight. We are thrilled to have Cali as the newest member of our clan! |

| Comments: | Thanks for putting up so much information. It has been a big help. I wandered into a PETCO here in Tampa last weekend and saw a little girl playing with one of the birds. When she left I went to see what it was. It seemed like it still wanted to play so I asked the cashier if it was ok to hold the birds. She said yes, just be careful. The GCC in the cage hopped right onto my finger, climbed up my arm, whispered in and nibbled on my ear. I am in love. I've asked a buddy at work who breeds love birds if he had a contact with someone who deals in GCCs. He said he doesn't know anyone, but we are going to find one to join my home. Again, thanks for all of the info.
