I have had my green cheek for a week, he is so awesome he loves to dance and loves Prince he makes his cherp noises to mimic prince. he's also trying to talk! he says Yea. i have 3 kids 12, 8 and 6 they are crazy spazoids who dance around the house and my birdie just LOVES it i think we might be more entertaining than he is at times, but he loves to communicate to us by bopping up and down, and his cherps, he loves being pet AND WE HAVE ONLY HAD HIM 1 WEEK. he was at the petstore for 4 months ! the guy who obviously knew nothing said he was vicious, little did he know alle he had to do was take a moment to really be with him. he is honestly such a sweet funny little clown, i still havent found a name to fit! | Comments: | Thanks for putting up so much information. It has been a big help. I wandered into a PETCO here in Tampa last weekend and saw a little girl playing with one of the birds. When she left I went to see what it was. It seemed like it still wanted to play so I asked the cashier if it was ok to hold the birds. She said yes, just be careful. The GCC in the cage hopped right onto my finger, climbed up my arm, whispered in and nibbled on my ear. I am in love. I've asked a buddy at work who breeds love birds if he had a contact with someone who deals in GCCs. He said he doesn't know anyone, but we are going to find one to join my home. | Comments: | Being a novice of having a bird as a pet, this site taught me a great deal, I read it cover to cover. It validated the info recieved from Pratt's feed supply in Glendale, Az. where I purchased my conure. The name seems a little deceiving, to me its an old fashioned pet store. The owner/employee seemed to be there every time I stopped in, he would take time to answer my questions even before I became interested in getting a bird and always seemed to have the animals best interest in mind and not money. He also bought young birds to resell. Breeding is still a ways off for me, but I thought it was convenient to have a constant market if I decide to start breeding.

I am a relativly new parrot owner, before my green cheek- Bill, I have cared for a cokatiel, and parakeets. When my tiel sadly passed away I decided to go to the next levl and purchase a green cheek, and I have been thrilled every second we spend together. I consider myself a "bird whisperer". I have always had a strong passion for birds, especially parrots. I know the scientists say parrots cannot expeierence love, but Im sure most parrot owners will agree- the bond you build with a intellegent bird cannot be described as anything but love. | Comments: | I have recently re-joined the world of bird companionship. I took my 11 year-old son to buy a video game and we came home with a Fallow Conure.
Aside from a couple of parakeets that I had growing up, we knew nothing about taking care of a bird. We would recommend that anyone interested in adding a pet bird to the family do more research than we did. After owning this bird for the last six weeks, there is no doubt that our lives are improved. We have no regrets about our purchase. Anyone that owns one of these characters knows that they are magical. They have an unending supply of unconditional love. I realize that it is not a case of me training the bird. The bird is training us also. We named our happy little friend "Mango." Since we have no clue about the gender of the bird, we picked a neutral name. We understand the risks of letting a bird sleep in the same bed, but we found out that Mango loves to sleep under a pillow. AFter fears of crushing the bird, we made him a special place to sleep. We are using a small cardboard box with one of my old t-shirts as a bed inside. Mango lets us know when it is bed time. Once Mango goes in the box, there is no movement or sound until the next morning. It has been a fun adventure so far. We got most of our information about Mango from your site. Thanks for the info. |
