I just bought a quacker for my daughter's graduation gift. She has always wanted a large parrot...I believe the quaker will be ust the right size bird to begin with. She named it Fiesta. It was 5 weeks old when I bought it. So far it has been a great addition to our home. Thank you again. |

Your site was very helpful. I normally breed Conures, but I am starting to bee Quakers again. You are so right in saying that Quakers are not for everyone. Quakers and Conures happen to be my favorite species of birds although I have several others. Thank you for such a helpful site! |

| Comments: | Thanks for the help. I took in the Quaker because he was left behind and not real social, so the landlord didn't want him around her other birds. He is in his large sturdy cage and in a room with an African Grey. They seem to have no problems with each other. The Quaker loves being on my shoulder and my African Grey, who would never let me hold him, a rescue also, came out of his cage and started letting me hold him too. Thanks to the Quaker. He is loud sometimes but I don't mind except when he is right next to my ear. They are wonderful birds and I am glad I took him in. |

| Comments: | Quakers are the best friend and companions you can have if you're a person without many friends. They know when you're heartbroken, angry, or even in the mood to play. My quaker's name was Cookie; she knew how to say her name clearly and she learned how to say papa. Simply adorable. They do require alot of attention; they need a friend too, they need their parent to cuddle them even when they don't want to. I loved mine so much, although in the last moments I wasn't too much attention to her. Today, my mother found her dead. I was sleeping when I heard from afar her name; ran to the first floor and saw her. It is regretable to lose your baby. I will ,one day, get a new friend with her caracteristics, but like humans, they are unique, every single one of them. I recommend the quakers to anyone who doesn't fit in very well in crowds, that needs a friend. |

| Comments: | Thank you for the great quaker facts, when I was growing up we always had little parakeets (well not many they live awhile). But then as a young adult I had a lovebird who broke my heart when he died, so I have had no birds for many years. I have been feeling like it is a missing 'something', but want a bird that can be happy with just me a kitty or two and a corgi to talk to and interact with. So my big query is do I have to feel guilty if I get only one? From your facts page it sounds like they can be happy as a single bird if they have lots of attention. I will research this a little longer before I take the plunge, but your site helped a great deal.
Thanks, Serena |

I have recently acquired two and although their previous owner said she handled them often, they wont come near us. Their cage is in front of a window and next to my african grey's cage - could this be a problem?

| Comments: | I have a quaker, and he really fits the description you provide........Mine showed up in the backyard on the fence....He screamed to get my attention and I offered my finger as a perch and he sat upon it....I then eased the other hand over his back and had him.....Since he is illegal in my state I have to treat him as an alien.....I tried to find who lost him but no results.....The only words he said when found was, "Quack, Quack".Now he says about 20 words and phrases.....He is very comical and has not bitten anyone....He will pluck facial hair if not careful with him.....He loves to be handled and will lie on his back when put in that position....I was looking for what foods are dangerous for him....Thanks for the info you provide here.....This guy will eat about anything we offer to him.....He especially loves bits of ice cream cones as a treat when he is talkative....I notice he has spiels of yakking about 3 times a day.....You have a great website and thanks........Ralph

When he is on the floor with the dogs, he is the one hissing at them if they get too loud. It's soooo funny. The dogs just jump away from him and bark. The cats don't even pay attention to him. Anyhow my quaker has been a great investment. Do they really take to one person more than they do another? |

| Comments: | Your page is great! I was looking for something to read exactly like your page, and appreciate your dedication to making it so interesting.
A friend found a Quaker behind the apartment building we live in, in a courtyard. We have researched and can not find anyone who lost a bird of any sort anywhere around. So my friends (married couple) decided to give the bird to me. I am very excited about my new member of my family. I am single, have two dogs, two cats and two ferrets. They all get along with all animals. And now the new Parrot, and he/she also gets along with everyone here. The bird was 6 inches a week ago when found. He is now 8 1/2 inches. You say they only get to 11 inches, but I wonder is this bird may just look like a Quaker, but a larger species. Can you tell me anything about how to tell the sex of a bird? Age? thanks for any help you can offer, and for having such a great web site! |

no...im not obsessed with killing people its a song lol. (thought id share) ive had cockatiels quite a bit as a child. can they be a lot alike? i remember the spray bottle ordeal after reading about it. it always facinated me for some reason. i also have had a pair of love birds...that flew out the door :(. so do you think that i could be ready for a bird like this? it would be really helpful if you could give me an email back if you see this lol. the site was helpful Jasmine |

| Comments: | hi iv'e just found your website but have had my Angel for a year and a half. he is the handsomest blue quaker iv'e ever seen. he always lets me know when he wants "kisses and cuddles" and everyone says sometimes they think i'm at home when i'm not ! how lucky they are? It's true they are really loving. Angel was fortunate to be hand reared properly and we have continued this and he treats us all as one of his family how lucky are we! |

| Comments: | I really enjoyed this website it taught me alot since I'm about to get a quaker from my uncle. My uncle was away for a long time in Iraque. The bird {Junior} was not properly socialized to by my aunt and her daughter. He has been passed from home to home so it's important I treat him right to earn his trust. He does not like most women. I'm a little bit nervous around him because he doesn't like me yet. He is a good companion for my uncle. I hope it will be thesame for me. |

| Comments: | I have a Quaker named Penny. She is very sweet to me but nips my wife to hear her scream. Penny is not noisy at all. Maybe that is due to all the attention we give her when we get home from work. One thing remains true... A Quaker trains you. You don't train it. Quakers are very affectionate birds. Before you get a Quaker, or any larger bird, get a small parakeet first. This will get you to learn how to handle birds and the bird will survive in spite of your mistakes. This is elementary school for humans. Quakers are high school for humans and the Quaker is the teacher.
Have a nice day. Eddy, Tina, and Penny |

| Comments: | I just bought a Quaker parrot and I fell in love with him at first sight. "Mr. Phister" is very friendly and sweet tempered, taking to me as if I had hatched him. He doesn't make much noise yet, but seems to trust everyone he meets. I love to have him sit on my shoulder and play with my ears and hair. he has never bitten me on purpose yet and I'd like to keep him as gentle as this all of his life.
I find that your site is a treasure trove for caring for my "Birdy-Puppy" and I thank you for that. Keep up the good work, Brian P.S. How do I link your site to my page? |

| Comments: | I have a quaker and she or he whichever is very sweet. We have learned to shake our head yes and to say step up and hello. My Quaker is also very mean. Cindy likes to bite even when she/he is playing. Cindy does not like to take a bath. She is afraid of everything. I would like to help her, but I am not sure what to do. I appreciate the information on this sight as it has given me some ideas. Thank you. |

| Comments: | Hi..just got a Quaker yesterday; a baby, almost 4 mmonths old. We already have an orange crown conure, two parakeets, and five zebra finshes, and this new little one is just a great addition. As we speak he/she (don't know it's sex) is kissing my lip and cleaning my hair.
Loved the info on your site. Sounds like we're in for a great experience. |

| Comments: | I am considering a quaker above lots of other birds. I wonder though, do they enjoy bird toys or hang upside down? My tiel is a lovey dovey bird that is perfectly content to sit on my shoulder all day and never touches my many MANY bird toys. Will a quaker enjoy them? |

| Comments: | Thanks for the information. Are the yellow and blue Quakers found in the wild? Although I have socialized my baby Chico, he is getting to be very much a a one person bird, intimidating anyone else who dares to come near him. This came on suddenly, and as far as I know without provocation. Is there a chance he will grow out of this phase? By the way, he just lunges and doesn't bite hard at all. He's just threatening. Again, thanks for all the resources and information. Very helpful. |
