| Comments: | EAST BRANDYWINE — Two men were arrested on burglary charges after an alert resident notified police that her home was being broken into.
Joshua Kohl, 18, and Conor McDaid, 20, both of Downingtown, were arrested Sunday for allegedly breaking into two homes in the Applecross Development and attempting to break into other homes nearby. Both were intoxicated when they were taken into custody, police said. Police were alerted to the criminal acts when a woman called and reported a break in at her home after her dog started barking. After responding to the scene, police approached an occupied GMC Suburban parked at the intersection of Trego Lane and Norland Drive with its lights out. Upon questioning, the driver, Kohl, gave varying stories as to why he was in the development, police said. An assisting officer from Caln Police shortly thereafter located McDaid on Norland Drive. Police said McDaid was carrying open bottles of alcohol when he was taken into custody. Police said the men initially said they were “garage hopping,” going into unlocked garages looking for items to take. However, upon further investigation, police said they learned the suspects entered two homes in the 400 block of Norland Drive and had stolen cash, wallets and purses from the kitchen areas. In addition, other homes in the area were found to have pry marks on windows and one Norland Drive resident discovered his or her vehicle had been entered but nothing taken, police said. Police believe Kohl had been acting as a lookout in the vehicle and was following McDaid as he walked on foot. Kohl and McDaid were charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Maisano and released on $5,000 bail. Police are asking residents of Norland Drive and the Applecross Development to check their basements, garages and vehicles for any signs of tampering or damage. Police believe the men entered other homes or vehicles and because some evidence, which has not been connected to one of the known victims on Norland Drive, has been recovered. |
