RCSN is an independent, non-profit citywide source of help for NYC parents and caregivers of children with disabilities or special needs, ages birth to 21, and the professionals who work with them. RCSN provides referrals by phone or by appointment at their office. For office appointments, there is a sliding scale fee. This covers all help provided around a specific issue. There is no fee for help provided on the telephone. |

Prescription Assistance

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance brings together America's pharmaceutical companies, doctors, other health care providers, patient advocacy organizations and community groups to help qualifying patients who lack prescription coverage get the medicines they need through the public or private program that's right for them. Many will get them free or nearly free. Its mission is to increase awareness of patient assistance programs and boost enrollment of those who are eligible. Through this program, PPA offers a single point of access to more than 275 public and private patient assistance programs, including more than 150 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.

New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer recently unveiled a new interactive website that allows consumers to compare retail prices for 25 commonly prescribed medications at specific NY pharmacies. In demonstrating the site, www.nyagrx.org, Spitzer noted that drug prices can vary up to $100 and more for the same prescription at pharmacies a few miles apart. Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
|
The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is a federal advocacy program dedicated to protecting people living in nursing and adult care facilities. The Ombudsman Program is sponsored in NYC by the NY Foundation for Senior Citizens. The core of the program is its corps of specially-trained and certified citizen volunteer ombudsmen who visit facilities and meet with residents to resolve their issues/concerns.
The Ombudsman Program is now recruiting volunteers with good observation, communication, and reporting skills. If accepted, volunteers receive 36 hours of training. Upon successful completion of the course, volunteers will be assigned to a nursing or adult care facility close to their residence and are required to contribute 4 hours per week. Transportation reimbursement is available.
