It was as great as we remembered it to be. The birds of prey show was our favourite part and to be so close to these amazing birds was an utter priveledge for us all and something that we hope our children will never forget, we never will. Thanks again for a fantastic day and we hope to come back again some time in the future.

Jasamine Loftus Thursday, April 27th 2006 - 11:40:08 AM jasamine@btinternet.com I have only seen 2 pages of your site so far and I already love it. I had no idea about the culling of the birds and the methods used. My youngest daughter has just moved out from home and all my daughters thought I would be lonely so they bought me a cockatiel. I have called him 'Beauty' because he is a beauty. That is why I am looking at your site, so that I can find all the information posssible on cockatiels. I feel so sad after reading about the culling that goes on and if there is any way that people like me could campaign against it, I would be very interested to hear about it. I would like to help stop this horrific act. I will now look at the rest of your site to learn all I can about Beauty and his fellow species. Thank you for your site.

Tracy Levine Tuesday, January 10th 2006 - 06:02:28 AM Bird32Tracy@yahoo.com Just wanted to let you know that I was impressed by your willingness to let others (consumers) like myself know of your experiences with the Brinsea incubators. I know it will continue to bother you that you lost so many valuable eggs- as an avid aviculturist and professional bird breeder myself I can fully relate to the feelings of such a loss. I think it stinks that the company tried to intimidate you and make you look like the "bad guy". No justification!!! Anyway, thanks for having the guts to make it known to others despite the badgering from Brinsea....I was just getting ready to purchase their incubator but will continue to do much more research on the topic first. Sincerely, Tracy Levine

Jayne B Wednesday, December 21st 2005 - 11:39:05 PM torcello@btopenworld.com Your site has given us much needed confidence. We have inherited a 'pair' of cockatiels, a Lutino and a grey, the Lutino was rescued from behind a dustbin - injured and frail. He is now a happy songster with a cheeky twinkle, fond of people and chatter, eager to be handled. So a great little chap. His (now we know from todays' activities!) mate the grey is, my daughter tells me an aviary reared bird, and not happy with contact but more than happy with her mate - even with his badly repaired wing. So we are very pleased to see an easy to navigate, UK site. Happy Christmas Jayne

He has spent a week with me. I like your site because it does not talk about "YOU WANT TO BUY A BIRD" Rocky came from Spice island. I loved to see the moluccans in the wild. The pictures are fantastic! I am trying to find the sounds of a wild moluccan. Rocky came from a rescue shelter. He was abused terribly for over 20 years. I sit back and think why did they take him from the wild? Thank you for the wild bird pictures. Would you care if I made a copy of the wild bird in the tree? Sherrie

Amy Thursday, November 11th 2004 - 07:42:05 AM AMCondit77@aol.com Hi! My name is Amy, from Michigan, USA. Thank you SO much for your excellent, informative website! I agree with and appreciate your views against wing-clipping. I have always been against wing-clipping from the time my husband and I got our 2 cockatiels over a year ago. Unfortunately, my husband recently persuaded me to try having their wings clipped just once, to see if it helped in taming them. I reluctantly agreed, thinking, well, their wings will grow back soon and we will see if it helps. (One of our cockatiels was pecking at the other in the bird store and the employees suggested that we clip their wings to make them less agressive). After bringing our birds back home, I soon realized that we made a mistake. The lady at the store had said "they will still be able to fly, just not as far". Well, if you call flying propelling a few inches forward before heading downward towards the floor! Now, instead of watching them happily fly around and get the exercise they need, they just sit in or on top of their cage. Of course, they enjoy playing with their toys and receiving praise for ringing the bell, but I can tell that they are not as happy now that their main mode of transportation is no longer possible. I can't wait until their wings grow back (unfortunately, that may take up to a year) but at least I've learned my lesson--birds were born to fly!!!

I have known Harry and Pat and their daughter for many years and visited their establishment on quite a few occasions, always to be made welcome with a cup of tea or coffee and on two occasions even had a coach load of parrot enthusiasts all made equally welcome. I sincerely think that if there is a GOD he would definitely be on your side.

Susan Allen Friday, September 17th 2004 - 07:01:55 AM Soozieque53@Aol. com Two months ago I adopted a violet creasted amazon . His name is Captin he is about 15 to 20 years old.No one is sure as he was found in a pasture. From what I understand no one ever messed with Captain just feed him. He did say a few words. I have bought him a new cage, lots of toys,he has toast for breakfast with peanut butter,he also gets fruits and veggies. I think I am doing ok I have read and found out alot about these birds. When he came here to live it was almost impossible to put your hand in the cage. I have worked with him enough that now I can put my hand in the cageand feed him cherios. I was wondering if I could get any kind of advice on helping captain and I becoming better friends. I know time is a big facter in this relationship, and there was alot of bad in his past to undo so anythimg you can tell me will help. Thanks Sue

tracy Wednesday, June 23rd 2004 - 08:47:06 PM judentracy@yahoo.co.uk WOW what a fab site, i have a salmon crested cockatoo whom we brought a year ago and this site gave us an amazing amount of info, out baby kala is gorgious and has become a big part of the family, she even has breakfast with hte kids in the morning, i work from home so im always around for her. she even climbs in to bed with us sometimes and has a cuddle for an hour, i find she is just as demanding as my children but also just as rewarding. we were lucky with her as she chose me and my hubby we didnt choose her, we went in to a shop and she was out of her cage she climbed on my are and had a cudle then on my hubby and had a cuddle, that wes it we were in love, she has not been easy work and it has taken a lot of time and studying about cockatoo's but she is the best pet ever she even knows when im stressed as she will walk over and lay her head on my sholder then groom me, i could talk about her all day but i better stop now. THIS SITE IS REALLY GREAT IF YOUR THINKING OF BUYING A BIRD CHECK THIS SITE OUT FIRST keep it up

Rigo Thursday, June 17th 2004 - 04:35:14 AM Riiigs@aol.com I'm a bird (cockatiels) owner, and I was wanting to know if African grey Parrots are fairly nice birds? I am debating whether I should purchase an African grey(female about 3 years old) that my friend has for sale. As of right now, I don't really know the history of the bird as far as hand fed, breeder bought, etc...The sale includes the Parrot along with the bird's cage. The cage is made of wrought iron and is 6 ft tall by about 4 ft wide and about 3 ft deep (A fairly LARGE cage). Now I already own 4 Cockatiels(All Males), three normal grays and one white albino. Two of the Cockatiels are hand tamed and hand fed, but the other two are fairly "wild". They all live in a cage about 3 ft high, 3 ft wide and about 2 ft deep(also a fairly large cage). Now my question is this: Since my living space is limited, can I combine ALL the birds(the 4 Cockatiels and the African Grey Parrot) into the Larger cage? The Cockatiels all get along very well considering they are all males, but since the African grey Parrot is not only a female, but also obviously larger in size, will that create a problem with the birds? My friend is asking an unbelievable low price for the bird and its cage since she is moving and her new apartment space is very limited. Your reply is greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time. Christine Meyer Saturday, May 1st 2004 - 11:05:59 PM cmeyer@evolve.uk.com My partner and I are considering purchasing a bird as a pet. Before we do this we would like to research what would be the best bird for us. We both work from home so the bird would not be left on his/her own. We do have a west highland terrier. We would like a bird to talk. We would also like to be able to handle the bird. We were thinking of a cockatoo or a parrot. Could you recommend any books for us to read before we buy? Which birds make the best pets? etc? Handreared? Any tips before we purchase? Thanks in advance for any advice. Best wishes Christin

Anthea M Tuesday, March 16th 2004 - 02:22:29 PM anthea-m@westnet.com http://www.anthea-m.com Hi This is such a terrific site! I have bookmarked it as I know I will be coming back to read more of these great articles! I love birds, parrots in particular - all types of parrots really! I am in Australia and (as you know) we have some gorgeous ones! We used to feed up to 25 of the white Corellas at any given time in my last house, and they became so tame - and they were very cheeky! I am an Artist, and although I draw and paint all animals, I must say, I really enjoy doing parrots - their gorgeous fat cheeks and cheeky expressions...!!!! Anyway, thanks for this great site! Best wishes Anthea M Pet Portrait Artist

He has read your article and was surprised at the age these birds live to and as he is in his late fifties, he is thinking of the future and where his bird could go in a few years time. Please contact me on my email above with your address, this would please him. Many thanks

Happy Evans Thursday, February 19th 2004 - 05:23:38 AM happyevans@sbcglobal.net I am the proud "flockmate" of a three-year-old Goffin's Cockatoo named Pookie. She is incredibly intelligent, gentle and loving not just toward me, but to even the smallest children and the elderly. Bringing her into my life was the best thing that could ever happen to me; she has taught me so much not only about myself, but has also made me more aware of the plight of all of nature and our world today. This is a tremendous website -- thank you for creating it!

David Hazeldine Sunday, November 2nd 2003 - 12:56:41 AM hazeldine@ihug.com.au An excellent site. My interest in cockatoos is that I live by the rainforest in Vuctoria Australia. I have abot 20 wild cockatoos visit me daily. Of course, I give them some seed. They are wonderful fun birds and to see them larking about, hanging upside down in the high trees is absorbing. I could not imagine them couped up in cages. They would be half the fun. I know that budgerigars can be trained to be homing and I am sure that could be done easily with cockatoos. In the wild they occupy aa area that they seem to stick to, I have they same visitors daily.Do you have any info about homing budgerigars or cockatoos? I think this should be spread. As well as cockatoos we have rainbow lorrekeets, king parrots, rosellas and others The cockatoos are extraordinarily noisy especially when they are awakenig in the morning or when the whole flock is chasing an eagle away. Rhonda Wednesday, October 8th 2003 - 09:58:16 PM rrh966@hotmail.com Hi, I do have a timeah grey and just got a citron cockatoo baby, I love these birds and want to do what is right by them, they eith sre too demanding nor are they shy and afraid of others and go to others and I take them out side and they meet others at least once a week, they get misted otr have good showers, and are kept from drafts and cold, I dont spoil them with constant holding and they have many toys in each of thier large cages, I want them to be happy, and I have dissabilities and they are here for me when i am down, they are not afraid or shy which I think all birds need to be socialized and not home nor cage bound and need to interact with the out side world to prevent screaming or biting of friends and family, yes I dissapline with a firm no when the lil citron does try and use my finger as a seringe, they both have great food and eat well, i have behavior books and I do read up on such things to learn how to do what is right and not over spoil or let them get the upper hand in the house and have good control and try to teach them what is right, so far the grey has no favorite and likes to go to anyone to be petted and played with at the age of 6 yrs, the citron is abour 5 months and I am working hard to do what I can to socialize the birdf and get it as much interaction as possible so far she to show no fear and is not shy to for for a ride in the car and meet new strangers, and takes to anyone so far i hope o apon consistant work with this citron I can help make its life a happy one as my grey, if you have any more advice for me that would help in working with my citron please let me know i heard these birds to be nervous and flighty and shy and have seen no signs from mine she is talking and likes to be a big show off and is not a demanding bird like some of the other cockatoos that I have encountered, than you and please let me know how i am doing and if you have any more advice for me, I am trying to break the citron of grabbin the finger to pump like a siringe, she has been well weaned when I picked her up and she just pulled back to this when I brought her home she eats very well on her own and is maybe still insecure but I would like to stop this so it does not turn to a biting or be havior problem, she does react well to a loud no!! and when I shake my hand, I hope to hear form you and your thoughts, thank you Rhonda Holt

I can say I was apolled at the fact that something like this is going on and that there is little done about it. You are doing a great thing about giving people knowledge about what is going on. I have a bird myself and could not imagine what I would do if anything happened to her. Thank You

Bright Dancing Tuesday, July 8th 2003 - 11:41:28 PM Briight@charter.net I am glad that I found a web page that finally concurs with my views on wing clipping. I DON'T and WON'T, because my Goffin has had enough trauma, thank you very much. She came to me after another girl bought her from "would-be" breeders who had sold her mate and no longer wanted a non-productive female who was plucking her feathers. This girl couldn't keep her because her roommate couldn't tolerate her screaming. Pear has a small cage by cockatoo standards, and the bird was given to me, so I wasn't quite financially prepared to go out and purchase the larger parrot cages on the market, but since she has acclimated to our home, I haven't confined her to the cage unless it was necessary to have doors open to move things in or out. She hasn't had her wings clipped in three years, she flies freely about the house (three laps around the living room is standard), no longer screams unless something disturbs her or she is displaying (the "Pearl Hour"). She has manzanita limbs inside the cage and out, rope perches on top and sides, and we also had hanging shelf in the kitchen picture window that she flew to and would march back and forth on until she discovered the items on the shelves near it. She loved the clatter they made when they fell on the counter, and it seemed that no matter what we put underneath the shelf, she would manuever her tail around it when it came time to drop "mines" and we became tired of the clean-up chore when it was time to cook. So the shelf came down. I would not clip her wings again. She came with wings clipped, and this is the first year in three that she has actually had a complete set of unclipped feathers, all wing feathers full and unbroken or chewed away. She never picks her feathers anymore. The days of her sitting miserable for hours on a perch, silent, are done. She talks to us, tells us when she wants something, comments on what's going on, complains when things are moved out of place. I can't imagine her gone. If I could afford to find her a huge cage and adopt a mate for her I would. Instead, for now, I give her the best food and toys we can afford, fresh and dried fruits and veggies, ZuPreem avian fruit blend for large parrots, puzzle nuts like almonds and peanuts a few at a time, and the plant mister several times a week. We tried giving her a mirror, as suggested by a pet shop wizard, and she stared at it, clucked at it, rubbed her head on it, licked it, leaned on it, pined away in front of it, and the first time I saw her pick at a wing, I took the mirror away. It would never be what she really needs--a mate. We will find her one as soon as I can afford to house it properly, but for now, it seems that she is reasonably happy. She seems to respond to my husband's voice best, but that could be because he is home most. Thank you for a most informative website, and for speaking up for natural handling of these beautiful birds. Bright and Pearl

Anne Tuesday, February 11th 2003 - 12:39:46 AM salesanneh@aol.com I recentlly aquired two Moluccan Cockatoos both at different times from different types of rescue situations. I have always had Umbrellas as pets but always wanted a Moluccan. I currently have one Umbrella which is actually my Husbands Baby. My daughter has one of the Rescue Moluccans and I have the other and it is such a learning expierience to see from day to day how they have changed so much being in a quite peaceful atmosphere. My daughters bird was a self mutilator and he no longer picks @ himself and his sore is almost all healed I feel I have saved these birds lives and they have now found thier permanant homes.
