| Comments: | I'm wondering if you know of any video of the Sha Na Na Concert at Concord Pavillion in 1980. I was selected from the audience to participate in the dance contest. I danced with Santini and of course, we won, so I was crowned and danced the spotlight dance with the big guy who played the sax. It was a blast and the last event I attended with my father. I'd love to relive that memory. |

| Comments: | Hi Cheryl! Hoping you can help me. I was a big Sha Na Na fan back in the day, must have seen a dozen shows. I have a recollection that the Wailers opened for Sha Na Na somewhere around '73. I was 14 at the time, and didn't appreciate what I was witnessing. My brother, who would have been at the show with me, has no recillection of this. Can you verify? |

| Comments: | Hi Cheryl,
Hope things are going well for you. Since I first discovered you I have been busy. Life has slowed down now. Did you get a autographed CD from Johnny when you ordered? Listening to Johnny & the wonderful videos keep me going. Our Johnny is such a great Man. And Linda is pretty amazing. I wrote to him in a e-mail just to let him know that seeing & hearing him made my last few month's of taking care of my Mom a little easier. He just gives Joy to everyone. God Love him. He answered me, and I broke down & cried. It was just what I needed. I had just pulled inside myself as if I was just going to fade away. He knew what I was going through. And I love him all the more for it. Now I am smiling & laughing again. My Granddaughter say's Maw Maw he's cute and, sings some of the songs you sing. I PRAY THAT HIS FANS THAT ARE AT HIS NEW CONCERTS ARE VIDEOING THEM FOR ALL OF US THAT WILL NEVER GET TO BE THERE IN PERSON!! Love to all that share our love & joy for him & Bowzer. Love Denise |

I want the shows put on DVD also. I sit sometimes for hours checking Utube, Bing. Looking at his videos. Listening. What do we have to do to get the big whigs who own the rights to give the people Shanana? They will make a fortune! I have written some comments under cajanwitch60 also because, I sometimes, (90 percent) of the time I jump from my G-mail to utube. Thanks a lot!! Whatever I can get to watch I WANT IT!! |

| Comments: | Well, I was married with two kids when I first heard of Sha Na Na. Between my little family and my job I seldom had time to sit down and watch TV, however there were a few times that I was lucky enough to watch a show or two. Through the years I had so much going on that Johnny was just far away memory, but still did not ever forget Johnny. One day I was looking up things on the internet and I remembered the TV show and the rest is history. I watch all their videos now, at least 3 or 4 times a week and am so glad I was able to learn so much more about the group. |

| Comments: | I have loved Sha Na Na for a long time. Even though I was a little girl when the series started on television, I do remember watching them and enjoying the program. I am glad to see that most of them are still involved with singing. I would love to know if Sha Na Na is coming to New York City on their tour. I would love to meet them and also Johnny Contardo, but I don't know if he's touring. I love the youtube.com Sha Na Na clips, especially the skits.

group in 1972 I thought it must be one of the earliest examples of a touched up photo. That ‘hair’ cannot be real….no-one with hair like that could be taken seriously. John Paiva corrected us… “All genuine hair….and original fashions. The long blond hair guy is Ted Clancy (Guitar) who is today a music professor at a NJ Uni. The guy with the big hair (totally real by the way,) was David "Chico" Ryan (bass). He was a wonderful funny guy who lived life at a very fast pace. He was offered a gig with "Sha-na-na" of "Wood Stock" fame and after joining them became quite famous as they toured and eventually had a weekly TV show. When Dave was offered the gig he told me about it and asked what he should do. I told him that if he didn’t go to the audition, that I would, so the next morning he drove to the city and nailed down the gig. Unfortunately later on he met with a sad accident and choked on food in Las Vegas. Due to oxygen starvation he spent the next couple of years in a coma. A truly sad ending to a great guy. | Comments: | Hello Cheryl---
First question - were you a fan prior to TV? And it it nice to see that there are still folks out there that appreciate talent. I go 'way back with ShaNaNa...in fact had a 'grassroots' (according to Denny) fanclub of about 1500 from 1975 to about 1986 (was in california at the time), and have many fond memories of concerts, radio appearances and club member letters. I do understand your facinatin with Johnny...but mine was a tossup between 'Chico', Scott & 'Bowser'...but the one thing I can say about each and everyone of the members of this amazing group is that they always found time for the fans. And as the saying goes "Grease For Peace" |

Great album I still have it along with some others. I did have a personal letter signed by Jon "Bowzer" Bauman but I think I threw it out when I moved. It from 1975? when Bowzer had his collapsed lung. They sent me a signed photograph by all the guys!!! I still have that in a frame. Well nice to see there is someone else who also likes to

| Comments: | I Cheryl,
Dis' is a Cool site youse's put ta gedder here. Lots good stuff ta read. Nice pics too. Seriously you've done a real fine job. I found it by Googling 'Sha Na Na' I wanted to see what was out there. Surprised that no DVD's have been released. I guess I should thank my lucky stars for the 8 shows my brother taped off KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles. He sent them to me for my birthday. One of them has the 'CARMEN' routine, you mentioned It's hilarious! I can see why it's a fan favorite. I recently decided to see if those tapes would still play. Yep! So I cautiously transfered them onto two DVD's for safe keeping. I wonder if anywho else out there in cyberspace has any more shows. I sure like to set up a trade and expand my collection. Who knows, maybe that infamous dude who holds the rights to the show will realize that there is $$$ to be made, and put all the episodes out professionally. Us fans want our SHA NA NA!!! SUPER SITE CHERYL. . . .GREASE FOR PEACE!!! |

He autographed a picture and a t-shirt and she was thrilled. I told her how he used to play on a T.V. show when Mommy was young and I was so disappointed when I searched online only to find that it is not available. | Comments: | Just a footnote to my previous comment, there are some of the finest versions of most of the songs that are found on their "The Golden Age Of Rock and Roll" album, including probably their best version of "Tell Laura I Love Her", "Duke of Earl" "Lovers Never Say Goodbye" "Hound Dog" "Teenager in Love", etc. Some of these songs can also be found on "you tube" under Sha Na Na. |

It is a shortened version of a dvd produced in Germany called Musik Laden. |

| Comments: | Responding to Ken Stephen's nearly-4-year-old post, Sha Na Na hadn't toured by 1968. Another website quotes one of the members as saying that Woodstock (8/69) was only their seventh gig. They played Kent State, opening for Jefferson Airplane, on October 11, 1970.
It was the first real live 'rock concert' I ever saw. Sha Na Na later headlined at Kent ('74?), which I saw. I also saw them play in Canton at a washed-up amusement park (Meyers Lake?) around mid-1972(?) and again at Blossom Music Center north of Akron sometime later. If anyone knows the dates of the latter three appearances, I'd appreciate knowing. |

Does anyone want CD copies of SHA NA NA albums ? I responded to Janet Bryan's post on this site, and after she had contacted me and agreed to pay for the postage, I copied six SHA NA NA albums for her. The problem was she didnt send the cheque and now I have six CDs here looking for a home. The CDs are copies of the following albums: Rock and Roll is here to stay SHA NA NA (the golden boot cover) From the Streets of New York Hot Sox SHA NA NOW and Grease for Peace. As they are copies all I am wanting for them is payment to cover postage from the UK. As the CDs didnt cost me anything, why should I charge you ? I calculate postage to be $10.00 for all six. If you are interested the CDs email me at mrgargrave@blueyonder.co.uk. Mike |

Just discovered your wonder/full site. I toured in the early 70's in England with 'Esperanto Rock Orchestra. We were the opening act for 'Sha Na Na'!!!! What a great bunch of guys...supportive, friendly and funny and INCREDIBLE ON STAGE. Also I'd like to mention their great sound engineer Basil Matychak and his beautiful wife Joan. Joan and I became good friends. Much love to you and all the guys (new and old - aint we all! But still alive and kicking!) Much love to all the Sha Na Na fans out there...I wonder if anyone has any photos of that paticular UK tour? Cheers ...from the Land Down Under. |

| Comments: | Hi Cheryl
Loved the site, but I have to disagree with your view on the classic Sha Na Na line up. I prefer the 12 man 1971 to 1973 line up - Scott(the Captain)Powell, Johnny, Denny, Donny, Richie, Bowzer, Vinnie Taylor, Elliot Chan, Bruce Clarke, Screamin Scott Simon, Lennie and Jocko. This is the line up that can be found on the 'Sha Na Na', 'The night is still young' and 'Golden Age...' albums. I thought they had lost it by the time of 'Hot Sox' and 'Sha Na Now'. I think their worst album by a long way is 'From the Streets of New York' - the sound quality is poor and the album sounds like it has been shoddily pasted together from their live show. The idea of having something so visual as a dance contest on an audio album is absurd. It has one of the best covers though. I also love their first album, I have the first issue with the fold out insert in the sleeve. To my ears the vocal harmonies on songs like Silhouettes and Remember Then were never bettered. I discovered the group touring the UK in 1972 and was hooked, I was fourteen at the time. By the time of their television series I had lost interest and when I saw the show during a visit to relatives in Canada, I thought it was lightweight rubbish. I wasnt impressed with their contribution to the Grease movie either, Screamin Scott's vocal on R&R is here to stay is flatter than a pancake. (Flash Cadillac in American Graffiti were far better). Despite our differences, we both love Sha Na Na and I agree that Johnny Contardo is an exceptional vocalist who should have made it in his own right. He is without doubt the best singer Sha Na Na ever had. Keep up the good work on the Website. Best wishes Mike Gargrave |

| Comments: | I saw a wonderful performance last Sept. 18, 2004 but there is another side to the story. Our non-profit organization could not sell enough tickets to pay for the group. We had hoped to breed new life into our agency with a huge concert draw but instead we are considering the sale of our building to pay for the expenses. Hopefully, others signing up Sha Na Na will have a better marketing plan. Sincerely, YWCA Board Member, Jeanie Manis |

To think he was born in 1972, and to this day he still tells me he will never forget that I forgot to wake him up to see their tv variety show! Wouldn't it be just a blast for Sha Na Na to wake him up someday? But, since that can't be, I am really hoping that we can have a dvd of Sha Na Na variety shows. I be so happy, not only for myself, but for my son. Think about it, for all these years, he has never, ever , forgotten the day I didn't wake him up to see the show, and he is now 32 years old! We love them so!!! Thanks for your page! Crossing my fingers, that they will come out with a dvd of their variety shows. |

| Comments: | Hi Cheryl -Today has been a great day. I was driving through a small village named Hebden Bridge when I saw a small advertising board on the pavement – “CDs inside”. I had a strange feeling that if I went in I would find something that I had been seeking a long time. I found a parking space on the other side of the village and found my way there – getting soaking wet in the process (it always rains in Northern England!).
After perusing most of the proprietors stock I reached S and found what it was that had drawn me there. To appreciate how significant it was you have to realise that over the pond we have been starved visually Sha Na Na wise – Grease and Woodstock has been our lot – no weekly TV show etc. I saw them live twice in the early seventies and although purchased their LPs I had only my thirty-year memories of their stage act to sustain me. What I had found in this small shop in a small village in England was something I never knew existed -a video CD of 16 songs performed on German TV in 1973 – virtually the stage act I had seen them perform at this time – all for ten English Pounds. Thank you Hebden Bridge |
