Just reading thru the comments brings back such great memories. I would wake up every weekday morning and get my dose of "Dean Hill and the cast of idiots" before heading off to elementary school. I remember a story read by Uncle Angus...The 3 little pigs. The last pig lived in a nuclear bomb shelter...lol! Another awesome song was, "The Uncle Angus Blues". Great times! I knew so much about politics back then with "The wreck of Bud Smith's career" and "Rocketzalm". I still sing along with, "I don't want to work!" and add in, "The boss is a jerk!"

In the early 80's, I did a bit of acting and was in a few tv commercials for LG73. Parodies of existing spots for Chanel and some other big products but kind of funny...or at least I thought so.
Do any of the folks who used to work for the station recall these spots or have access to the old footage?

Frank, I have to disagree with you! LG73 has been reincarnated on the much better-sounding FM band at 96.9, as "Jack FM". They even resurrected the CKLG call letters! It's much better than what was there (96.9, that is) in in the 80s when the Real LG was around on AM, and they even had Jeff Rechner for ages before he retired or moved on or whatever!

LG lives! I sometimes even think I'm listening to it when I hear a string of LG-esque tunes, and I almost anticipate hearing Constable Bob & Uncle Angus at the end of the song!

Ok- listen to AM 730 today. What a pathetic waste of this frequency. LG73 was once the most popular station in Vancouver, and now it is reduced to an all traffic station. This is definitely a waste of this frequency. We deserve better in this city. LG73 is turning in it's grave.

Wow!!! This absolutely blows my mind that there is a website dedicated to LG73. I worked there from 84-88 and I must say they were some of the best times I ever had. Never thought anybody would take the time to put together this amazing site.
I had so much fun working there but what I remember the most was that everybody was crazy. They probably still are if they're working in radio. You have to be!!! I'll have to go through all my old junk and see if I've got any memorabilia from the good old days and pass it on. I left the biz shortly after my stint there. Just never would have been the same after. Hey let's get a reunion on the air! That would be a blast. Cheers-John

Very cool to see a website tribute to LG73's heyday era!!
I have such vivid memories of LG as an avid listener in highschool, and years later, I found myself working in the LG newsroom...it was a newbie newscaster's dream job, and to this day, because of the people there, the incredible product, the fun and cool environment and of course, the sweet blush of naive youth, it was one of the best jobs I ever had.

I had the pleasure of working for the best boss ever, Stu McAllister, and working with an amazing, talented and fun group of people who I haven't forgotten to this day...Graham Hatch (nicest man alive),Jack Marion (nicest man in Canada), Greg Cameron (shortest man in Vancouver), Jeff Rechner (coolest haircuts in North America), Terry Reid (classiest guy around), Phil Johnson (best "Mornin' Mully!" exclamation )Jacqui Underwood, Maryann Altman, Dean Hill, Samantha Howe, Terry Reid, George Raymond, Theo, Gerry O'day, Mick Lovzit, Rita Woodman, Valerie Ambrose, Liz McKinney, Charlee Morgan and so many more.

Went on to work at many other radio newsrooms and then TV newsrooms in Vancouver and overseas, but never forgot the fun I had at LG, or what I learned there about 'how to tell a story', or how to have fun on the job and get paid for it. And of course, all the gab sessions with the late night Jocks between newscasts is a memory still with me. I hope everyone is doing great, and that you are all healthy and happy.

Being from Toronto and Vancouver (White Rock), its great to pick up a station that's full of GREAT CANADIAN talent that i've always taken forgranted, including our canadian humour, which is great. Great station, music brings me back to home roots, makes me realize how good our home grown talent really, really is, but not the political french & feminist crap. Hi Roxanne,

I am also a huge Cement Heads fan. I managed to tape several tunes in the day, and still have the tape. The quality is not the best, but it makes for a great listen every once in a while. Yes, Drive Like an Albertan is on there, so are such other "questionable classics" as "Yak Yak", and "Change of Socks". I still haven't found anything on the WWW though.

It's very sad to hear the current 730 on the am dial(MOJO). What was once the number one station for hits in Vancouver is now the bottom ranked station in Vancouver. Bring back LG73 and the ratings will almost certainly go up. Kids of today don't know about LG73, and what a shame that is.No Vancouver radio station has ever been able to match the excitement of the LG of the 80's and early 90's! The Zoo, Top 8@8, Hotlines, Saturday night Hot mix....All now just a memory. Very sad. Get rid of Mojo radio....730 is better left alone if not LG73.

It's great to see so many former LG staff and fans here! I started listening to LG73 in July 1985 every spare moment I had. I enjoyed such personalities as Rita Woodman, Charlee Morgan, Jeff Rechner, and the entire LG Morning Zoo which I listened to religiously almost from day one!

I would love to get some original copies of Cementhead songs (I taped many off the radio, but they were often cut or announced over at the beginning/end). Like many others in this forum, I lament the day the music died (metaphorically and literally) in 1993 and LG changed to a talk format, followed by a musical format that clearly told the listeners the station was lost.

I like the fact that the station has (kind of) been resurrected on 96.9 FM (as Jack) and they even brought in Rechner himself. Is the resurrection of the LG Morning Zoo on the way? ;-)

Isn't the Internet great???

LG73 was great! I started listening in the late 80's, when i was in about grade 6.. I lived in northern BC, where the only radio stations played country.. That was, until the nighttime, when the AM stations from far away would come in clear as a bell. I would sometimes make recordings on to cassette to listen to during the daytime. I still have one to this day - it's my favorite compilation of late 80's music!

WOW! I was just surfin' around, feelin' nostalgic and found this great site. I lived up in Vancouver during the full reign of Dean & Graham & the Morning Zoo. My wife and I have listened to morning shows all over 2 countries and we STILL compare them all to The Morning Zoo! None measure up. In the late 80's/early 90's LG73 just had that lucky and ultra rare combination of people & talent that only seems to surface in the rarest of instances. Many copy, but there was only one original. The Zoo was "The Beatles" everything else is just "The Monkees".
Thanks for a great re-visit to a great radio station in a great city during a great time!

Hey there! I just happened to find this sight while doing some random searches on Google. Man, its great to have a sight commemorating such a great station of Vancouver's past! Sadly, I was born in 1984 so was too young to fully appreciate LG73 in its heyday (the first station I ever got seriously hooked on was CISL back in 1989-90). However, I do remember tuning around at age seven in 1992 to the LG Morning Zoo as well as Howie and Tank in the evenings. One memory that sticks out in my mind was the incredible voice of newsman Murve Conelly! Wow, what pipes! I also fondly remember winning a few contests on LG after 1996 when it was in its decline and therefore it was easier to get through. The radio bug "bit" me at an early age and I have wanted to get into this business since age six. as yet, I have not realized my dream, but I hope to in the next ten years. Because of this, I'm fascinated with any airchecks i can hear especially those from the past...from radio's "glory days" before voicetracking and automation became the thing of the day. Is there a chance that you could post any LG airchecks up here? And how about dubs of entire jingle packages?

Keepp up the great work and keep the memories alive!

Hey Guys/Gals...I'm really touched over here. Thanks for your kind thoughts and inquiries. I miss you!
To tell you the truth, I got a little burnt out after 12 years of on air broadcasting. I had to take some time out.

I started to get involved in the Film Business here in Vancouver and it was and has been quite the challenge. I was Charlotte Ross's stunt double on an episode of 'Beggars & Choosers' and I also doubled for another woman in a 'Fight Scene'on 'beggars and choosers' a tv series, shot in Vancouver...

I had a chance to shoot an MP5 on a show called 'Breeders' and gain some of the best experience in submachine and assault weapons. Never for the use of animals/people and only for 'on set'. Plus, more training with a class 6 for a 1000cc BMW bike...again, all part of doing something a little more specialized for film.

It's one thing to work for someone else, another to work for yourself. With the movies, it's all for the creator/executive producer and helping them as part of the cast & crew for the sake of meeting 'their visions'...in radio, it is honest communication for the most part, with very little to hide from. Like 'raw' talent. Plus, being able to communicate effectively on a one to one. This is something I miss greatly. Especially, if it meant brightening up someones'day...even just for one person.

Radio has always provided that perfect vehicle and can be used as one of the most significant altruistic communicative vehicles, where as, something really good can come out of it, instead of having a show that's just a waste of air space.

At this stage, a goal would be to go back on radio, but, most likely in a talk show format. I really enjoyed being on my brother's show a couple of weeks ago in the 9-10 AM slot. MoJo Radio with Jesse Dylan. We'll see what happens. I never thought I would miss it as much as I have. After reading your inquiries, it kind of moved me to tears.

Thanks...I needed that.

Really amazing that there's an LG SITE! Had SO much fun working on LG73, and learned so much too. My favorite jingle was the guy singing "Good Morning from the LG Morning Zoo,Canada's Award-Winning Zoo. Get up in Vancouver, get up on the West Coast with the LG Morning Zoo! Badabada!" Glad others have fond memories of that time too...some things just aren't as good as they used to be, but if I ever get missing LG, I just listen to Z95.3. It's a complete and total RIP OFF, right down to the guy doing the station ID's, the jingles (have you noticed that Z95.3 and LG73 have the exact same cadence, so the jingles are almost IDENTICAL!)and the ENTIRE FORMAT of their morning show with the exception of NOT calling themselves the ZOO! Small concession. I guess someone get's paid to listen to old LG/Zoo tapes and COPY it on Z95.3. They don't need a program director, just a good transcribor. Ah, just bitter, I guess...hate to see the old dog die in such a sorry fashion. Always have fond memories of my time at 1006 Richards, it was a magic building filled with magical people. I love this site!It brings back great memories of LG73-why did such a good station have to end? There's nothing like LG in Vancouver anymore and it's a shame that the people of Vancouver don't have a station with the excitement of LG73 in 1985-1993!My fave dj on LG was by a landslide Rita Woodman....oh yeah and who could forget the Micker (Mick Luvzit).Keep up the good work!!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your site.I listened to LG73 in the 80's and early 90's and felt that after 1994 LG was not the same as it's former self.It was such an awesome station and I don't think radio now is the same as it was when LG was popular in the early 90's.Here's an idea-bring back LG via the internet as a memory station with clips from the old LG (LG73.com is nothing like the LG I remember). Keep up the good work and thankyou for this website.P.S.I like the audio clips-can you post some more(also some from the mid-late 80's when LG was HOTHITSLG73)?

Scott, I have to admit that I'm not really surprised to see you making a LG73 tribute site!
It's awesome and it brings back great memories of you working there and the Cow Girls and DU and all that other stuff!
Awesome work!
