Bear passed over the rainbow bridge 1/21/2005 at 6pm.

Comments:My 9-yr-old female GSD has just recently been diagnosed with DM. Your site has helped a lot in understanding more about this disease. I wish I had known about it 2-1/2 yrs ago when I lost my 11-yr-old male GSD to this disease. His hit without warning. He was fine one day; the next day he couldn't walk and had lost total control of his hindlegs. Both of the above dogs are retired conformation show dogs as well as pets. How can I become a member of this group?

I could really use some advice on carts/wheelchairs. He weighs a hefty 115 lbs and I have a lot of trouble lifting him up. thanks!

Comments:Casey, my best friend, came into my life Nov.12 1990. My
neice and her husband gave him to me, from a litter of 11
German Shepherd puppies. Over the years, he brought my wife
and I many wonderful days of love, joy, laughter, and also
our protector. It was only 3 months ago, that he was
diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy. It was very
heartbreaking to see him lose the use of his hind legs, not
to mention his dignity. Our vet informed us that there was
no reversing his condition,or no known cure. He also lost
all control of bowel. Based on all of this,we knew the time
had come to put our beloved Casey to rest August 13,2001;
just four days before his eleventh birthday. So many, many
memories. Rich & Karean

for over 2 years. I just got the internet the other night
so I've found that there are many others dealing with this
dreaded disease. Although I've done many alternative
treatments with Sheba the past 2 years, I'm open to
anything that can help. I'm glad there is information
available.

Comments:We are making a trip from Tucson to Phoenix tomorrow for a
CT scan to find out if our 11-yr. old GSD's stumbling is due
to narowing of the spine or DM. I'm so scared it's DM. But
because of this site, I am beginning to believe that
paralysis does not have to mean goodbye.

Wish us luck...

I have two GSD's. Cassi, age 12 has DM, & Kora-Mae, age 4,
who is currently healthy, with the exception of a few
allergies.
Cassi was diag. approx. 1 yr. ago. She is still walking on
her own. She wobbles alot and it doesn't take much to
topple her over, but she can still catch herself. She has
terrible allergy problems and we are now trying to diag.
what type of liver problems she has. We will see. We are
also looking into Dr. C. program.

Comments:Carol, on Jack Flash Myelopathy Chat, sent me to onelist
and then here. My 6 yr old GSD, Tessie, has just been
diagnosed with DM. I was desperate until I found Majorie's
site in remembrance of Jack Flash. Tessie is now on Dr.
Clemmon's program after some nudging done to my vet. He
was still using the Prednisone treatment learned from
college. At least he was open minded about using this
treatment. Nice looking at all the beautiful pictures.

Comments:I have a kitten that was in an accident and has little
feeling in it's hind legs. It also has no control of it's
bowel movements or bladder. I want people to know that
just because it's not the standard idea of a cute cuddly
kitten that it deserves a chance to live. It purrs like
crazy and has an appetite like a horse. I believe that it
has a good chance of at least living a comfortable life
with a whole bunch of love.

I would love to find others who have pets with disabilities
so that we may exchange tips on care for our little babies.

Comments:I have a 4yr old GSD with extremely mild symtoms of DM. He
will drag his right rear toenails may be 10-12 steps in a
3/4 mile walk. He has absolultely no problems getting up,
jumping or continuing his Schutzhund training. I am trying
to get a feel of how many dogs are diagnosed this early, and
what sort of time line we can expect. I know each dog
progresses at a different rate. To see Chance walk and run,
no one would suspect a problem. He is hyper-reflexive in the
right rear and is slow, only on occasion, to return his
right rear to right when flexed on its top.
I am trying to get the USA Schutzhund club of America to
get behind a fund raising effort for this disease. I work
Schutzhund 90 miles away on Wed. nights, but want to get on
the chat room. Please, any help, and Dr Clemmons and others
have been alread, would be appreciated. Watched my father
go thu ALS, so know how stressing this will be.
thanks, Cathy and my best friend CHance
