am impressed with the amount of love and work that is so apparent! Today I finally put my "love", my Serissa Japonica to rest. After five loving years she met with a terrible accident! She has lived on the summer porch each year and over-wintered in a south facing bay window during the cold weather. We live in NC., in the Smoky Mountains. About three weeks ago, my sister had hung a plant over my Serissa. She is a master Gardener, but this time she didn't pay attention! She watered her prayer plant every day, but did not notice that all the water was pouring down in my "love"! I check all my plants daily, but didn't see, in time, that she was sitting in water!!! She drowned. As soon as I saw what was happening I repotted her, being very gentle, but the roots were already "soft" and mushy. Too late to save her. But I kept her in her favorite place, watched her, but day by day she declined. Then the brown scale developed and to save my other plants, I had to take her to the garbage. What an ignoble end to a tree, a forrest really, she had five trunks! But I couldn't take a chance on the brown scale spreading! Do you know of anything that will stop scale? This was my first go-round with it and I was shocked at how fast it took her down! Sorry for the book....but your lovely and wonderful URL is now bookmarked as a favorite! I shall visit your site often! I sincerely hope that you get tons of pics to share! BTW...my 15 yr. old, gardenia, is in full flower! stone to stack in all maners of shapes, to leave them for others to find. i'm told by all that see my work that i have a talent. this is nice to know, i've always seeked a creative outlet. my favorite settings are rivers. my home near the n.c. mountains allows for many displays. i will attempt to photograph some of my totems and pass them along. i'm still without a p.c. at this time but hope to join the electronic age soon. will use business computer till then. see ya! |

Tucson Bonsai Society and yesterday purchased our first plants. We recently attended an all day seminar with Kathy Shanner. She has studied in Japan for 5 years and was terrific. We left on total overload. About two weeks ago we visited the Weyerhauser permanent exhibit on Bonsai up in Federal Way, Washington just outside of Seattle. It was magnificent and we took lots of photos. We too want to establish a Japanese garden and will start to gather information on doing it in a desert surrounding. We will visit your site again. It is great. |

Just discovered your inviting web site. Several years ago in Garden Grove, California, I attended a Vietnamese Festival. A gentleman was showing his rather large miniature landscapes. They included bonsai, suiseki, delicate Asian figurines of country people, running waterfalls, and more. I don't know his name but I have recently decided to pursue such an undertaking. I am looking for information on anyone doing large (36" x 48" base) miniature gardens for indoor display. His work was simple, delicate, and inspiring. It seems that the size provided a great challenge to show what many Japanese landscape paintings reflect. I will explore your work. In the meantime, I would appreciate any information you could provide me that would help me on my way. Thanks. Richard |

| Comments: | I am have been collecting bonsai's for about three years and have a collection of 20 plants. I have had as many as 35, but seem to keep killing them, usually to much water. The climate in Phoenix is difficult for about 6 months out of the year when the temp is usually at least 100 degree.
