Comments:I have been a Doc Savage collecter since 1966, started by a Doctor Eliva, while in the army in Viet Nam.She knew I love to read and introduced me to Doc Savage.I work in the empire state building too (I wonder why!)I'm one of those "I Love NY".At times I've had many double issues and have sold them.I'll retire soon to my home land in Puerto Rico with my collection, sit on the beach and start to read Doc Savage again and very slowly this time so as not to miss anything.Disagree with the movies, the way superheros are shown on the screen with all this high tect, they sure re-do Doc Savage The Man of Bronze, the right way.Good luck to all those Doc Savage fans.

Comments:I was introduced by a school friend when i was 13 yrs old here in London. England.
I am of African Caribbean origin and he English European.
We spent most of our schooldays and teenage years exploring the world of sci-fi and Doc Savage.
I introduced the good Doctor to many of my Afro-Caribbean friends. We wre totally hooked on the Bantam paperbacks by Kenneth Robeson and as huge comic fans also.
We often wondered how they got away with calling Superman The Man of Steel(Bronze), Clark, givinghim a Fortress of Solitude etc. They just ripped off his character.

Comments:Complete set of 1st editions of the paperbacks. Have about 1/3 of the pulps (from poor to mint shape). Began when I was in Jr. High when a geeky friend introduced me to him (was hooked from that day on)... it was the sargasso orge that reeled me in. I hated the Ron Ely movie, was very disappointed. Since I began collecting the pulps the movie started getting a little (mind you, a little) better. Heard through the grapevine about another movie inthe works with Arnold getting the nod (doen't like that idea - bad accent). Email me any collectors and maybe we can trade or just talk about the adventurs of our friend Mr. Clark Savage. Looking for the Sargasso Orge pulp, email me if any body has it or knows where I can buy it. Thanks, Mark

Comments:I started collecting Docs in the mid-seventies, and completed my set of paperbacks 2 weeks before I was married, in fall of 1983 (Cold Death). Most of mine were from a used book store in Bowling Green, Ohio, called Pauper's Paperbacks. The name is appropriate: I bought half my collection of out-of-print books for 35 cents each. The rest came from other used book stores around Cleveland and Pittsburgh. I remember one golden day when my mom came home from a flea market with 30 or so Docs for $5.00.

The covers were my first inspiration in art instruction; I went on to attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and now make a living as a freelance cartoonist and caricaturist, and as a full-time high school commercial art teacher.

I also have a complete Ballantine Adult Fantasy library, a few Pyramid Shadows, the first 24 (pulp-reprint) Avengers, and samples of a number of other 70s-era paperback series. . . as an artist and graphic designer I do in fact judge books by their covers!

Comments: The Flaming Falcons was my first Doc Savage paperback. This was in 1965 if memory serves. The hardest ones I had to find were Phantom City and Mad Eyes. This was all pre-Ebay days. My luckiest score was the Mystic Mullah. It was in a desk at an antique store. They only deal with furniture not books.
Last word I had, I own the only complete set in the Omaha Nebraska area. Makes all those threatening letters to Bantam Books worth it.

Comments:Completed the Bantam set earlier this year. Now trying to refine it, and get everything in mint condition.

I have started reading the series in "submission order" which is the way to go! You get to follow Dent's development of Doc and his crew as well as Dent's own maturation as a pulp writer. Several of the first 10 novels are tied into each other (not quite sequels) which is something you don't pick up on reading the novels in "Bantam order".

Comments:Introduced to Doc in 1964 with the first Bantam issue, I collected all the paperbacks, then latter day stories. After that, with the help of several reputable dealers, a trip to PulpCon, and, of course, ebay, I was able to compile the full pulp run in 99 days! Upon upgrading several tatty issues, I now have a VG or better set. Finally, I completed the full comics list with the last Street and Smith issue. Lessons learned: Condition is everything, patience is a virtue, and cash talks! A hearty hello and good luck to all my fellow collectors. Joanie

Comments:Completed my set years ago with that scarce double "The Three Wild Men/The Fiery Menace". I want my kids to read Doc too, but when I thought about anyone touching my set, I freaked. I tried to collect an entire second set. I lost interest in Doc for few years and stopped collecting with only 25 to go for that second complete set. I also have 30 pulps, but gave up collecting those given the cost, and the thought that that pulp paper would begin to disintegrate to dust in another 20-30 years. Oh well, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Comments:In 1972, on a rare visit to Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey, I spotted Doc Savage #1 THE MAN OF BRONZE and was captivated by the James Bama cover. Bought it, read it, the rest was history. I compiled the whole set in a fairly easy way: I bought most of them new, including every one after #77. It took me until 1987 to get caught up (with #32 DUST OF DEATH) therefore my set was completed when Bantam published the last one (Omnibus 13) in 1991.
I now present the Doc Savage Library on the web, dedicated, for now, to the comic book appearances of the Man of Bronze but I hope to include the novels soon. To that end, I'm rereading them all. Drop by an see my site sometime.
Ironically, after #1, I never bought another one at Cherry Hill Mall.

Comments:I was introduced to Doc by a friend of mine around 1979, and right after I read the first book (I think it was Brand of the Werewolf) promptly haunted all the used and new bookstores to find all of them.
When I moved I had to sell most of my collection (yes, it was traumatic!), but I found that Doc was looking out for me. On a trip back to El Paso, I found a bookstore with most of the paperbacks... and the owner struck a deal! Too bad for those clothes from the parents, but I had room on the plane for only my precious books ;)
Then I went to a convention and saw my first pulps... While I have no hopes of completing a full run of the pulps, I've been collecting the issues that appeal to me and special favorite stories.

Comments:I bought my first Doc Savage paperback--Murder Melody--#15, back in 1967. From then on I was hooked. I bought each new one as they came out--IF I could find them. During the 70's I haunted old bookstores looking for back copies until Bantam re-released the earlier titles.

Somewhere in the 80's when the double novels came out I lost my footing and missed about 6 volumes near themend of that run. When the ominbuses came out, I accidently missed #11.
It wasn't until the past two-three years that I renewed my filling in the blanks with renewed interest and grim determination.

On this past Dec.7th, 2008, I won my FINAL volume of Doc that I needed on eBay--double novel 125/126, The Goblins and The Secret of the Su. It cost me a bit....but it was the best Christmas present that I could give myself.
After about 41 years of collecting and over 25 years trying to fill the holes, I finally had ALL the Doc Savage paperbacks!! **WHEW**
Now I look at them sitting on my bookshelf and feel real a sense of pride. They look wonderful all together at last.

A friend of mine some years ago collected hero pulps. The Shadow was his favorite, but he also bought Doc Savage. He allowed me to borrow a Doc pulp from time to time and read them. He died in 1999 and his brother sold the pulps to pulp dealers without asking me if I was interested. Sad to say, a collection of over 150 Doc Savage pulps was basically cast to the winds. What I would've given to have gotten at LEAST one of them. Oh well....>>sigh<< .

Comments:After many years of reading Doc's paperbacks, starting in the late Sixties, I finished the set when Bantam finally completed the run. It was fun to get the Will Murray versions as well. I had never seen any of the pulps, but thanks to ebay, and deep pockets I was able to complete the whole set within a year, compared to the 25 years it took me with Bantams erratic publishing schedule. I have about 50 duplicate pulps I would be willing to trade, or sell. There are some early Doc pulps that were in average condition that I would like to upgrade. Doc reigns supreme.

Pulp Set: Incomplete
Paperback Set: Complete
Comments:I've been collecting since I was a kid and first read "The Squeaking Goblin". Thanks to Ebay I completed my set of Bantam paperbacks a few years ago. I have only about 15 of the pulps, however, but I am not as concerned about them.
