| Comments: | I just finished reading the other posts and find I am not alone in acquiring what I was told was an ACD/blue heeler. But, as with the others, my dog just didn't quite meet the looks of the photos I looked at on the internet, or the dog I bred her to.
So, since she has a stubby tail - which I assumed was docked - I decided to find some pictures of the Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dog, since I had read that they are a separate breed. I think I have my answer! She looks like the Stumpy Tails and the description I read on another site compares the characteristics to the ACDs fits the differences I see in her. I guess when she has her puppies I'll know for sure. . . I live in Texas but I see in these posts that people in the USA do have them. My dog does have faults - tan speckles on the legs and face/ears and her ears don't stand up all the way. I do have a question, if you answer them. I'm having a big problem with this 12-18 month old dog - she will not let my other dogs near me. She intimidates them unmercifully, growls or even snarls if they don't back away from me. When she was in season (severe PMS!) she even attacked. Is there anything I can do about this? I have only had her for 2 months and she is getting better about it - will she eventually chill out? If she doesn't, as much as I love her, I'm going to have to keep a puppy and find her a home with no other dogs. Thank you. JoAnn |

| Comments: | Hello, I just stumbled across your Stumpy sight today, and was suprised to find out I wasn't cheated when I got my second Australian Cattle Dog. My first was Red, he was the best dog ever after 12 years, he died of lung cancer, and as Forest Gump would say, "thats all I want to say about that". I was moping around feeling sorry for my self when my wife saw a ad in the paper for a ACD in a neighboring town. The wife talked me into going up to see the ACD and Zippy came running out the door and one look and I took him. I thought he was just a 6 or 7 month old pup when we took him home, but he never grew. ( Red was a little large for an ACD 70 pounds ). We often wondered why someone cropped his tail. We loved him but we thought we were cheated and only got a half of a ACD. Zippy is about looks exactly like Ebenezer on the Stumpy tailed Dog site, but he is mostly white with black spots. He is 5 now and a real part of our family, He ain't Red but he's getting there.

| Comments: | We have just acquired our first stumpy-tailed---an adorable female with personality plus and BRAINS in evidence. She is only 8 weeks, so we don't know how she will work yet. She does have the tan markings on the chest and legs. Her sire is Charlstud Ima Hogan Hero and the dam, Charlstud Silver Melody. This first litter for the owners had one solid colored stumpy female that they kept and 2 with the undesirable tan. I understand this is a recessive characteristic that will show up if both sire and dam carry the recessive gene.
This is the first journey I've made searching the internet for more information on these dogs. We've used,loved and raised Australian Cattle Dogs or Queensland Blue Heelers for several decades. As she grew I realized even though she was a good looking animal, her conformation wasn't that of an ACD. She has natural drive to work cattle, obedient, very intellegent, and good all around family dog. When I stumbled across your site I was amazed at how much our dog resembles a Stumpy tail. In fact, I thought it was her picture at first. I'm pretty sure she is not a pure bred dog, but I cannot tell the difference except she does not have a "natural" short tail. I think it was docked. My question for you is: How do you tell if a dog has a natural stumpy tail or a docked tail?

We lost our "Gypsy" very suddenly to kidney failure 25 mar 02. It broke my heart to have found her the morning I took her to the vet, lying on the dirt pile waiting for her boy. She was like a second mother to our little boy and like another baby to me and our family. We are desperate to find our family another heeler. The breeder we got Gypsy from has since stopped breeding them. |
