Hi Dave, i'm Swiss guy, living in Thailand almost 30 years.Never had drum lessons and someone told me about lessons over internet. So i found your page. I really like it a lot. So i get some informations about things what i already do on my drum but never knew that this is real stuff what drummers practice. No drum teacher was here to find who told me more then beginner practice.Your Videos are exactly stuff what are interesting to me. One thing is cool: because i learned military drum as a 8 yaer old kid. So my real experiance comes from there. But i never learned real drum playing, so i used my military drum knowledge on my drumset. You are explaining many stuff that come from there. That's cool. So i don't feel so wrong all the time. I didn't know this. Over internet to find some stuff like yours is really super great. I really would buy a DVD from you but it is not possible for me. So i can get some free stuff to download. Thanks a lot and i hope to see you in a concert some days... Bye bye Max

I'm a former "wedding band" drummer from 'back in the day'. Recently a group of friends and I got together to put on a benefit dance for our kids school. The experience rekindled a love of drumming that I thought I had lost. I decided to search the web for current videos and material I could sink my teeth into. A refresher course, so to speak. Since I had never taken lessons, I was looking for some tips. I found sites on rudiments, but very few, where drummers actually incorporate them into a SOLID routine. Your videos resonate with exactly what I was looking for. There is a lot of mediocrity out there, mostly due to inexperienced, drummers thinking that they know what they are talking about. Your dexterity on such a modest kit, and the ease with which you glide into various rifs, speaks volumes for your experience. Thanks for the tips and for giving me some hope. Even for an old dog like myself. By the way. . . .is it possible that Simon Phillips incorporated some of your solo material into his? Earily similar, in many ways- good stuff. Good luck and thanks again ! Paul

I had the utmost pleasure watching you play at Matt & Phreds last night and although i said it to you at the end, words cant stress just how good that gig was. Me and my drumming friend came away elated. It was truely magnificent from every member and exactly what i was hoping to see. Its a pity about the people talking at some points but all it did was highlight the massive dynamic the band displayed. Well in my top 5 gigs i've ever been to, awesome in the truest sense of the word. Thanks Ben DAVE REPLY. THX for the very kind and humbling words. You are amazing!! First things first...Hi, I simply want to ask you what you personally think about the matched-, tradtional grip discussion. I have played drums now for about 4 1/2 years and have lately seen many drummers using the traditional grip again (Neil Peart, Steve gadd, Larry bright, Steve holmes and of course you). Do you see any particular use in it that is harder or impossible to achieve with matched grip?

Hi Dave, ive been drumming about a year and have just found your site. I downloaded and watched your videos and found them very inspirational...many thanks for those!!! I can relate to what you said in the "some groove ideas" video where you said about getting stuck in a basic rock groove and staying there...im there now and its frustrating! Im now going right back to basics and starting afresh with the help of your vids of course. Many thanks and keep it up...your doing a great job mate. Regards Mart.

Hey Dave, Thanks for sharing your instructional and solo videos. I think you're a great teacher, very insightful without intimidation. I think Morello's quote "The objective of a good teacher is to bring out the creativity of the pupil" applies a lot to your style of teaching. I especially like your 2nd and 3rd solos, which to me had a Colaiuta and Jojo Mayer-esque (respectively) flavour to them, both of whom have greatly impacted my drumming. Thanks for sharing.
