I'm happily married with two sons; nine and three years old. As for my drum gear, I have plenty of drum sets, but my main baby is my 7 piece DW drum set, DW snare, and DW pedals, 13" Tama maple snare, a mixture of Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, and Wuhan cymbals(15 cymbals total), up to 7 Roland electronics pads, and all CAD drum mics. I use many different set configurations depending on the music. I have been known to rock a four piece one night and a 12 the next. I have so much love and respect for those cats I just mentioned it are ridculous.
My favorite Gospel drummers are Calvin Rodgers/Teddy Campbell/Tron with Marvin McQuitty right behind them on the national circuit. I also have a lot of love for Robert "Sput" Searight & LaDell Abrams. If you ever in Richmond you have to check out my unsung heros who are just as tight in theor on right with their own individual sound. Stanley Edwards, Jr. (Will Kennnedy with the Gospel Power) Luther "Junie" Collins (Nissan Stewart/Virgil Donati) Corey Birch (Gerald Heywood/Spanky) Derek Simmons (Robert "Sput" Searight/Dave Weckl) Lamar Moore (Jeff Davis/Abe Laboriel Jr.) Anthony Peterson (Jeff Lesley/?uestlove) John Zachary (Steve Smith) Kevin Pryor (Clyde Stubblefield/Diamond from Ohio Players) Those cats are ridiculous in their own right with cats they are similar to but yet diffferent. So if you roll through Richmond let them know you heard about them from Lamont aka Big Syd.....Peace and love to all the fellow drummers on hear...do your thing a & define a sound of your own....Lock that pocket and and think about the music first! |

There are a WHOLE LOT OF cold drummmers in Houston (Ced Smith, Edwin Hamilton, Sylvan Hamilton, Gary Mayes, Eric Porter, Chris Harris - actually from Baytown, TX). Anyway, these guys will tell you that Mark is from another planet. No disrespect to Aaron Spears. . . but Mark is just so much more than chops and licks. Play at a church called True Vision in Say-town, doin a live recording on Sept.10,05 I did a studio album wit this gospel group called Will bond and IOP.(I played 3 songs on there.) I did couple of auditons wit Isreal Houghton but I don't know how dat's gonna work out but I'm still cool wit him and his crew, cuz they all stay in Houston besides Chris but he dont even play wit' dem no more. but anyway I'm bout to get on this gospel play in Jan.and that CD will be in stores in JAN.TOO.
My favorite drummer is Calvin Rodgers, then Chris Coleman close second,Calvin's timing is perfect, when he be playin. his timing is so perfect sometimes you cant even hear the MPC.(drum machine for yall who don't know want a MPC is.)but Chris got the chops. I learn from everybody though. |

| Describe yourself: Hey y'all. Its been a while since I've posted on the site, so bear with me if someone has already mentioned this.
Teddy Campbell is on the cover the most current Modern Drummer. Lets all write in and make them aware of the scene that we're all apart of. There are more drummers in the world than Travis Barker and cats like that. Although I respect those cats, there are a lot of guys who are not getting their just praises that are making moves. Look at Spanky. The AIM convention was in KC (go CHIEFS and ROYALS. They need love too even tho they suck!) in July. At the late night musical on that tuesday night I ran into none other than Paul "phinkky" John. He is, in my humble opinion, one of the most tasteful, finessful, and MUSICALLY CONCIOUS drummers on the scene ANYWHERE! Everything he played absolutely fit the music. His musicallity and feel for the music, teamed up with his comand for his insturment was unsurpassed by anyone in the building. And there were some heavy hitters in the house. Doobie Powell was also in the house. But he didn't play the drums! He did however play the keyboards. And for those of you who don't know about Doobie on the keys y'all need to step ya game up! He played "Holy" and his brother played the drums (I can't remember his name, but the man was nice too) but thats not the moral of the story. They came to a solo section over a vamp. Doobie let everyone get a chance to shine including D'Wayne Wright (son of Timothy Wright) on the bass. Then it came around to Doobie. He solo'd for a couple of courses in the original key, then he decided that he wanted to take it a little bit higher. Lets try ALL 12 KEYS! He played a course in all 12 keys. I kid you not. | Describe yourself: James Edward Wright, III a native to South Florida began fulfilling his desire to become a skilled musician at the age of 5. His principle instrument being drums, James groomed and developed his skills by playing initially in his mother’s (Sonya Gordon) church “Prevailing Word Christian Center” (formerly known as Dunamas) at the age of 12. It was at this time he was introduced to his first studio session with the gospel group “Times 3” that was founded by his father James E. Wright, Jr. This life changing event was just the catapult that he needed to embark upon the trail that God had designed for him. Inspired by artist such as Mint Condition, The Isley Brothers, Prince, Teddy Riley, Fred Hammond, Bilal, D’Angelo, James Moss, Rapheal Saadiq, and Rodney Jerkins to be a versatile musician and producer, James began teaching himself to play instruments such as the keyboard, lead guitar, and presently the guitar.
