Comments:What a wonderful site and resource! And I am amazed at how much information you have!
As you can see from my middle name above, I come into the Scarbrough picture from the Shannons-- specifically Charles Shannon, son of William and brother of Janetta and Susanna who also married Scarbroughs. Charles moved to Illinois in about 1819 and from there I have lots of info (if it is of interest, please let me know).
I am trying to prove that William is Charles' father, and that Charles' sisters are indeed as I mentioned above. Family history (lore) certainly says so, but I would like to be able to document it. Can you help?

I hope to hear from you soon!

Comments:It is hard to imagine the sweat, tears, loss of hair from pulling it in fustration and money spent to glean so much information. This is truly a magnificent site. I do the family research for my family and for my husband's family. I had most of his Scarborough family from family knowledge, but your site has added much more. Thank you. Is it alright to share some of the info with my husband's siblings?

My husband's greatgrandfather, James Robert Crow, of Roane Co., TN, married Amedia A. Hassler. Her grandfather, Michael Hassler was married to Agnes Scarborough whose father was William Scarborough (b.1753) and you have all the rest.

What I most like about your site are the pieces of written history. Anything that can make the ancestor come alive adds so much to a genealogy.

Thank You,
Sharon Crowe

Comments:Hello,

Looked through your site again. I am working at mine all the time, adding and updating. Thank you for including much of my data on your site, and for the credit, too. That was very generous!

Your site is great. Very easy to get back and forth between sites. I know the work involved.

I am Joyce Wiedrich.

Parents: Ernest Lee Wiedrich
Lorraine Maxine Barth

Grandparents: Ernest Hoffman Wiedrich, MD
Florence Marion Sutton

Harry Franklin Barth
Annabel Scarborough

Great-grandparents:
George D. Wiedrich
Mary Elizabeth Hoffman

William Robert Sutton
Sarah Adeline Purdy

Douglas McClain Scarborough
Mary Eliza Hardy

Charles Washington Barth
Bertha May Yonkin

I have kept updating my genealogy, but need sometime to do a webpage, as I have 12,000 plus names on my program, with a lot of good information!

Interested in sharing with people of these surnames, and also connected ones of Miller, Hall, Purdy, Sutton, Ditman, Hoffman. Most are from NYS, PA, New England.

Can not seem to trace my great-gteat-grandmother Amanda Russell, (2-6-1836--12-29-1814) from NYC, who married George Washington Hardy, Sr. (6-10-1819 --1-10-1910)in 12/15/1856 in Horseheads, Chemung County, NY. Any suggestions appreciated. My great-great aunts did not do well filling out the death certificate. Her father is thought to be named Henry Russell, born about 1808.

My Wiedrich ancestors are elusive, also. Can not trace them past Genesee County, New York. My great-grandfather Henry Wiedrich, born in Alsace Germany 9/6/1822 came over at age 6 with his parents to Wyoming Co./ Genesee Co. NY. His wife was Margaret Elizabeth Ditman. I have her data, but nothing on parents in NYS, although she came with them.
They are elusive!

Keep up your good work!

Joyce L. Wiedrich

Comments:David, I know you are a computer expert. Can you let people pay a fee and gain access with a user code? With all the secured use of the internet nowadays (online banking etc), is there some way to limit access and prevent wholesale copying? Also, I don't mind donating my time as an attorney if you want to bring actions to enjoin specific unauthorized use of protected property (I have always wanted to learn IP law). It doesn't seem right that a few users can spoil it for everyone.

Comments:I started to tell someone else about your site tonight and found that it had been closed. The family has lost a significant resource that you have so capably assembled. Should you decide at some point to put it back on line, please let me know. I still have updates that I've finally started working on again. Whomever is using your data for personal gain or as original work should know they have eliminated a common valuable knowledge source. And if you ever publish I would like to be the first one to get the book (for a grandson).
Thanks so much for your help in the past.

I like to read those family names in the emails such as John, Jonathan, William, Luppy (from the Lupton family), Freels (from Anderson Co), and so on. As you may remember, I'm an old southern lawyer in NC. It's hard to impress me but your web site is special. When I visit your web page, it's like going home again.

This is so awesome!!! Thank you for taking the time to compile this information. I can't wait to show my brother. In our family, he is one of few male Scarbrough's.

Comments:My Great-grandparents were William and Betty Scarbrough from Monterey, Tn. I haven't had time to do much searching. But I do recognize the coat of arms at the front of your website. I have always been interested in the Scarbrough family tree. I think its very important to know we are and where we come from. Our family is very musical, instrumently and vocally. There were 13 siblings of William and Betty. Lets see if I can remember them all: Martha, Ester, Elijah, Douglas ( my grandfather ), Arvil, Vestel, Lloyd, Lonie,Notie,Julia,Nolie, Phoebie... can't remember the last one. Every year at our family reunion, I am in charge, I always have those representing each sibling to stand, and I always forget the same one.

My Grandfather (John Scarbrough) and my Great Uncle (Len Scarbrough) was originally from East London. Later Len (sadly recently just past away) moved to Toronto Canada.
It wouldn't surprise me if we did originate from the Town of Scarborough, but as over time some reason or another the spelling changed. Get in contact with us and ill try and dig up for you.
