Hi everyone. I only ever seem to post when I'm at work at 3 in the morning - maybe I'm at my most productive then? Hmmm......
I'm eagerly awaiting the results of my interview that I had this week. I've accepted a 1 year job in ENT surgery in the mysterious location of "Eastern" which basically means somewhere above London, East of Nottingham and South of Lincoln (but anywhere within that region). I've now decided that I'd much rather do Paediatrics though so had an interview this week for Paeds jobs in Trent (which is much more manageably Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby, Chesterfield and Lincoln). It went well and I'm quietly confident and if I got that it would be an 8 year rotation and then hopefully a Paediatric Consultant! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! am in toronto at the moment. in an internet cafe just come back from the horse racing. off to montreal 2morro morning, then ottawa the next day. just gonna stroll around taking in both the citys. then niagra falls on thursday. baseball game on friday. have already been up the cn tower, been to toronto islands, ice hockey hall of fame, seen We Will Rock You after 6 pints in the Irish Embassy Bar and Grill where we met some guy from Northern Ireland (gary or something, claims he used to play for leicester city or something) and played with georgie best.... anyway, i would have enjoyed we will rock you alot more but was a tad tipsy. toronto is a nice city. right better go speak soon off to google that Northern irish guys name to see if he was lying or not....... How are you enjoying Toronto, Duff? You really have to try bubble tea - it isn't actually anything like tea but is a nice fruity drink with big fat black balls in (think they're made of pasta or something) and you have to have a huge straw to suck them up. Is quite fun! I've just been making tiny babies cry a lot and now I feel like a really horrible person. Hope everyone is well, and speak to you all soon. Agent Based Simulation if anyone knows what that is - modelling passenger flow (quite intricately in terms on movement on platforms, congestion hotspots for forecasted high demand stations in a few years time so that measures can be put in place before hand so that a ridiculous level of busy-ness doesn't happen - also how best to design underground concourses and ticket halls for new stations being built for 2012 olympics based on demand and where passengers are likely to walk etc. - some really special software on show) That was for Mark that last paragraph and for anyone else who's interested. I'm not having that Stevey. We must have scored 90 goals between us, Duff and Dave were both great in goal, Rich Bourne was a demon in defence as was Bobby, I remember Barker banging in a couple of hatricks and Shades was quality. We were a great team, dude.
I've never had a problem with this board, as long as I hit "reload" after I post a message. Had stressful week sorting out mortgage, solicitors, insurance etc. but things seem to be moving now. Also found out the graduate I'm going to be managing is starting 4 months earlier than expected, bit nervous about that as they are actually older than me...good experience tho etc. Still not sure about birthday, depends what Bob is up to Nick | |

Hope all is well and life tiss good. I started a new role at work last Monday. Sustainable consultant! Joy the dream of becoming a hippy in a suit is edging closer. Not really got too much to report apart from that. Went to Morocco week before last was pretty wicked. Camels, desert and snail soup. What’s the Big Birthday Plans then? Anyone? Congrats to Duff from me as well.
We had an offer accepted on a house yesterday (£135k). It's a nice 3 bedroom terraced one not far from where we're living now. Really pleased to have got this far as we've missed out on a few, but probably going to have a stressful month as we've got to exchange contracts within 28 days or the people we're buying off will lose the house they're moving to. Feels pretty grown up buying a house but I'm sick of paying rent into a black hole so will be good to know my money's actually going towards something. Don't know about anyone else but I'm dreading the England game, I'll be genuinely shocked if we win. F*CKING COME ON ENGLAND. Come up to mine and Bobby's birthday, anyone fancy a piss up? Hey there
Not been in touch for way too long again - Sorry! Anyways here's a quick update on my recent maneuvers after a brief period of work in Brisbane I headed north up the well traveled East Coast doing all the things backpackers do like camping on Fraser island, cruising around the Whitsunday islands and visiting the Reef. All good fun lots of drinking along the way and bumping into numerous Bristolians – they seem to get everywhere! I then flew from a place called Mackay via Brisbane to Perth on the West Coast. My flight was actually cancelled because of a tropical storm so luckily for me the airline had to put me up in a nice hotel room which after months of hostels was a real luxury having my own en-suite room. So been over in Perth just over a week now and really like it. Apparently it’s the most isolated and sunniest state capital in the world, I am closer to Singapore than Sydney. The city centre is a bit more rundown than I expected but they are doing loads of construction work, the coastline is real beautiful though. Was real hot last week about 42 degrees, its a much more pleasant 28 degrees today. Least it is a dry heat not like northern Queensland on the East where it is their wet season at the moment just felt like walking around in a steam room. Spent the last week job hunting and had a couple of interviews my favourite one took place on a Sunday evening at the managers home and was more of an informal chat over a couple of cold of beers with him and his wife, to be honest I don’t think they even had a job vacancy they were just being hospitable. I wouldn’t be surprised if people here poured beer on their cornflakes in the morning. Anyway got offered a job with a different company yesterday which I accepted, only trouble is its for a permanent position and the company have said they will sponsor me to stay out in Oz. If a company sponsors you it kinda means they got ya by the short and curlies for a couple of years so it would mean putting my travels around Asia on hold. Am a little bit in two minds at the moment half of me wants to keep traveling but half thinks it could be a pretty good opportunity that I am lucky to get and can always continue my travels in a couple of years. I guess I will see how it goes for the first few weeks and not commit myself to anything just yet. So gonna make the most of my last few days of freedom before work starts on Monday. Been looking for some accommodation in a house or flat share cos don’t think I can handle staying in a hostel and working. Still missing footy, reading the sun, proper chipshop chips and a decent cheese sandwhich, obviously friends and family but apart from that all is good out here in Oz. You think you'd do it again next year? And whats the difference between red writing and blue writing on your badge number? Just been out the last 3 nights, had some of the cardiff boys down to visit. Struggling to say the least today. Had some good nights out though. Bobby was here and Danny Walsh from Nottingham was also out and he was on form. Highlights included: - Seeing Tony Adams on the Thu eve. - Telling Bob to come for a QUICK drink after work with work colleagues, i ended up drinking about 8 pints, not ideal preparation for a large weekend coming up - Bobby berating some English people in O'Neills for singing Rule Britannia very loudly (in his own words, if he was at a football screening/match he'd would have had to scarper pretty quick) - Bobby befriending some French guys in Walkabout - Spending £9.46 in a 24 hour tesco on total junk food, including cadburys mini rolls and scotch eggs - Getting given the number of a girl in the club on sat, only to run out of memory on my phone so it didn't get stored properly. tamping at that one still. the reason for it is i video'd scenes in o'neills after the england game and it took it most of my memory. found out i didn't have it stored after the event. she does have my number but i can't instigate contact! not the first time this has happened to me!!! - Cardiff City thumping Preston 4-1, they were on fire, Whittingham was really good. - Danny Walsh telling us a story about how he took his work laptop to inferno's nightclub, clapham and forgot to pick it up on the way out! - Danny Walsh's antics with the ladies of Fulham, "dunno bout you girls but I'm here to boogie!!" - Speaking to Nicky Morgan at 3am on Friday morning who told us he was going to have a shuffle after he had finished speaking to us "Enjoy it son!" - Bobby loving the live band in the roadhouse "You guys f@@kin rock!!!" sorry not posted much recently, been a bit busy. I got promoted last week which was obviously nice, no pay rise till June tho which is not so nice. Got my sights set on the next promotion as that's the one that gets me lots more money and a car. Also started looking for a house, not much on the market at the moment though, and those that are on think they can take the piss with how much they're asking. Which they obviously can't because most of them haven't sold for months. Planning trip to Australia in the summer, trying to book flights this week. Combination of that and house means I don't have a lot of spare cash to spend on nights out at the moment but I'll try and get to Basingstoke if I can. Don't think I've actually drunk since New Years Eve, saved me a fortune. Starting to sound like an old man but it's been quite nice to have weekends without a hangover as well.
