Wij emigreerden in 1967 en woonden in Paramount. Mijn vaders familie begon de grote overstap naar Amerika al begin vorige eeuw (mijn overgrootouders). Mijn beide broers wonen allebei in Amerika, de jongste in Oregon en mijn andere broer in southern California (Bellflower).Ik ben zelf op jonge leeftijd weer teruggegaan, maar later toch spijt gekregen. Maar door een hoop privé-omstandigheden ben ik in Nederland gebleven. Maar probeer bijna elk jaar of om het jaar terug tegaan. Mijn moeder overleed 18 jaar geleden in Amerika, mijn vader keerde ook terug om te hertrouwen. Maar ik mis California heel erg en het leven van de amerikanen. De vrijheid die men heeft in dat grote land vindt je nooit meer hier in Nederland. Maar ik geniet met volle teugen van mijn leven hier in Nederland, maar geniet vooral weer om even naar "huis"te gaan, California of Oregon. Hartelijke groeten, Gerrie Blijleven |

Nice to see there's a bunch of Dutch people out there... I left the good old flatlands a few years ago and after working in Egypt, Mali and the UK and travelling elsewhere on our globe, I've recently signed up for a job in Southern CA, which should start within the next month. I was wondering though, is the Holland festival an annual event, or is all this about last year? Secondly, are there any Dutch or Dutch Americans in the Ventura - Santa Barbara region? Over the years I've learned that some contact with fellow countrymen and women makes the occasional fits of homesickness easier to bear and keeps my Dutch language skills a little more intact (the deterioration has already started I'm afraid).
