In some old information, it is believed that Henry Dutton and a group of men came from Boston, to help rebuild the city of Savannah, GA, which had been burned by the Torries in the Revolution. Most of these men were carpenters. Most of these men died of a Yellow Fever epidemic, but Henry Dutton and a Mr. Judson Atwood survived and H. Dutton settled near the Ogeechee River, in Bullock co. GA.
In another account it is suggested that Henry Dutton came from Boston with his brother Samuel Dutton, Seth Williams,Aaron Williams. It is believed that Samuel returned to Mass. Henry Dutton and Mary Ann Wilson had the following children: Elizabeth, Samuel, Zedakiah Eames, Joseph, Andrew, William Henry, Mary Elizabeth, John Wesley,Obediah Overton and Martha. After Mary Ann died he married Ann Teresa Cox. I descend from Samuel Dutton and Sarah Hagin, Thomas Absalon Dutton, CSA and Eugenia Natallia Foy, Thomas Absalom Dutton and Mattie Carroll Fryar, Eugenia Rebecca Dutton and Magnus Theodore Otto Monson. I know we date back to William the Conqueror's time, but i'm still in the dark about a lot of things. My grandfather was William George Dutton who married Maria Magdalena Martins. His father was James Arthur Dutton,born in the late 1800's deceased 1969. He was from Tuscaloosa County , Alabama, and not much more to granddads background in genealogy, can be found. His original Dutton family is a mystery, for some reason. It seems a secret for some unexplainable reason, from aunts and uncles. He was married approximately three times. One wife burried at Fort Benning Georgia Cemetary, died of possible suicide of taking a caustic soda type substance, on Meritas Drive in Columbus, Georgia. His third wife, my granny, was Lola Mae Barrentine Dutton, of Florida. SHe passed away this year , October 2004, in Columbus Georgia. James Arthur Dutton served in the US Army, during WW1, WW11, and Korea era. He is buried in the American Legion Section, at Riverdale Cemetary, Columbus, Georgia. Wish I knew his biological parents names. I have a document but you can not tell out the cursive writing, to understand the name. I understand he spent alot of time at Fort Sam Houston Texas for some of his Army career. Had two sons by first marriage, and one lives in Oklahoma, and the other is buried in Fort Smith Arkansas National Cemetary. That's all I know handed down to me. My mother was Vida Lily Dutton born 1901 in Melbourne, Australia. She is the eldest daughter (after 3 sons (Harry, Herbert and Roy) of James Stelfox Dutton who is listed in the British 1881 census as 16 years old and an apprentice grocer. He was the second eldest son of James Dutton who was born in Norwich, Cheshire in about 1836 and Mary Johnson who was born in Davyhulme, Lancashire. James Stelfox Dutton came to Australia in about 1884 with 2 friends 'to seek their fortune'. He joined the Salvation Army and was instrumental in producing the first feature films in the early 1900s. There are lots of Australian relations all very proud of their Dutton forebears and anxious to make the connection back to the UK. His siblings were Ellen, Rowland, Samuel, Mary and Amy aged between 19 and 4 years in the 1881 census. Do we have any close relations? Best wishes to all! Wendy |

Phyllis married Norman on the 3rd of August, 1927 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, and died on the 7th of July, 1988 in Great Doddington, England. They were first cousins. | Comments: | I am a descendant of David Dutton, from Montgomery Co., Virginia. David and his son, Daniel, who came from Missouri to care for his ailing father,migrated to Somerset, Kentucky sometime prior to 1810. The farm that they purchased is named Dutton Hill. A Civil War battle was fought there and a monument stands in memory of those 250 killed in the battle. Saddly, a large part of the farm was sold in auction about 15 years ago and subdivisions are going up now.
However, my father and Grandfather, both named Joseph Dutton still own a portion of the original Dutton Hill Estate. My grandfather's late sister, Gladys Dutton compiled a wonderful geneology that has been passed to me. I do not have any information prior to David Dutton. Anyone heard of him? Apparently his father, whose name I do not know, is buried in Virginia and was in the Virginia militia prior to 1774. I would love to have any more information. |

Raymon DUTTON (~1910). I'm obviously new to all this, but am quite interested as to my heritage. I grew up in Canton/Collinsville, CT and now go to college in Cleveland (Case Western Reserve). | Comments: | My genealogy comes through John and Mary Darlington Dutton (Pennsylvania Dutton), Gerald W. Dutton(b1949), son of Howard L. Dutton (B1927) and Joan Sanders, son of Calvin Jeffers Dutton (b 1877) and Lily B. Holcomb, son of Reece Robert Dutton (B1841) and Rachel Jefferis. Reese and his three brothers fought at the Civil War Battle of Gettysberg. Their names appear on the Pennsylvania State monument, Reece is the son of Jonathan Dutton(b1814) and Elizabeth Bullock, son of Richard Dutton (b1776) annd :ydia Larkin, son of Jonathan Dutton (b1747) and Martha Beeson, son of Richard Dutton (b1711) and Mary Martin, son of Thomas Dutton (b1679) and Lucy Bernard, son of John Dutton and Mary Darlington.
I have acquired some genealogy about the family, but would like to fill in a number of blanks work from John and Mary forward. My information has come primarily from the LDS Church Family History Libaries. I would be interested in joining or organizing a Dutton Family organization and meet what seems to be a wide diversity of family members. Any suggestions? |

Billerica, MA. My mother was born Kathelyn Mae Dutton, and I was raised in the Dutton District of Springfield, Vermont. I enjoyed the presentation of this site. I am considered one of the family historians of the Duttons of Springfield, VT, and have much primary source information about them that is not yet published. I would love to correspond with anyone descended from Thomas Dutton of Reading, MA b. ca. 1620, or from the Duttons of Springfield or Rockingham, VT. Or any other Duttons, for that matter!
