| Comments: | My wife and I were recently in Columbus OH on business and one night drove west, towards Urbana, OH, to meet my brother-in-law and his wife for dinner. While we ate, I noticed a man that I thought I had met before. He was with what appeared to be his family and was getting a joy out of helping the child at the table learn to read. It drove me nuts that I couldn't place him. We got up to leave about the same time he did, so I asked him a string of questions to see if he could help me place him. After a minute, he said, "I'm Clancy Brown, nice to meet you."
Not placing him still, I said, "Well, I'm Jay Hutchins, nice to meet you too, sorry to bother you," and I left to pay my bill. Well, his Dad came up a minute later and explained who he was. And what came over me more than "Wow, I just met a movie star" was "Wow, he seems so humble and such a family man...it's great to see that someone who has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry is still so grounded." Clancy, if you ever read this, it WAS nice to meet you. Stay grounded and let's pray that it rubs off on some people that come in contact with you. And hi to one of my favourite actors! I was totally amazed by his performance in "Bride" many years ago. The rest of the movie was nothing special, but he was simply adorable in the role of Viktor! He really touched my heart and since than I am his big fan. How come, that such an original actor with such strong personality and huge charisma hasnīt an Oscar yet?! OK, maybe he is too much original for the jury... :-) Anyway, I like his way of acting and how he play the bad guys - scary like hell, but even ironic. He is able to do it in his own way at all circumstances and thatīs what isnīt usual in Hollywood. To make it short - This man is really something, the energy he splits all around is awsome! Except that I find him intelligent, sympathetic and handsome. What a pitty, that I havenīt many possibilities to see him in movies, we are too far from America. Well today 7th Dec at 1.36pm its a horrible windy day, and I thought I'd tell u and Clancy what Im going to be doing the rest of the day: Im at a training course called Somerset County training,improving my Math and litracey.And also IT. I'm going to go to gym later to work out,I am a regular and train for 6 hours every afternoon/evening. Soccer traing tonight,but im too tired to go.I didnt pass the army careers exam. So I can apply again within 6 months.Does anyone know when The Guardian is comin out on DVD in England? Im 21 years old in 2 weeks time.Party time!! I also like your part in carnivale very much. you have got a certain charisma/aura other actors don't have, and I also (like other people here) think it's strange/pity that you are not promoted so much as so many other actors are(who are sometimes overrated,I won't mention names:-P). Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins and James Whitmore in Stephen King's finest work...come on! I had a geek phase where I got into Earth 2. I loved the movie Normal. I loved the HBO masterpiece Carnivale. And I LOVE Lost. My friends had to shush me several times during the season finale as I said "Clancy!!!" every time I saw him on screen.

I am sorry that I could not remember that my favorite movie was Shawshank Redemption because I was very surprised I was standing next to him talking to him. | Comments: | For the record about my favorite character he plays, he plays such a great hard ass in Shawshank, plus its a great story. However... I appreciate it more when I hear his voice as a character on any animated show. He's got a distinctive voice that even when he sounds different... you can tell its him :)
Clancy is partly why I wanted to get into acting. The fact he came from the same little sleepy town as me, gave me hope ;) I've had no breaks yet... but hey... ya never know :) Fun fact for all: Another person to make it to Hollywood from Urbana, in another fashion, is Randy Wilkins. He does set design :) Got his start doing "The Wonder Years", and I heard he did "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" recently. Funny enough, his brother and my father are actually friends. So its neat to hear somet things sometimes. ;) Its always fun though, to hear the stuff around town sometimes around the holidays. "Oh I saw Clancy Brown at church", or something along those lines. In the late 80's ... whilst reading something screenplay and or making-of this or that film at one of the book stores in the Beverly Center, Beverly Hills, CA ... I glanced up to see Clancy Brown with his nose buried in a book about Dutch Calvinism -- -- and about two seconds later, he glanced up too and I believe I said something nerdishly to the effect of, 'Oh, you're Clancy Brown ...' 'I am Clancy Brown ... yes,' he grinned and shrugged. Nodding at his book, I said, 'Dutch Calvinism?' He replied, 'Yes, I am doing a movie with Sidney Poitier and Tom Berenger and I'm looking where I think my character came from ... you know, homework ...' We chatted a few more moments -- we shook and went off to another aisle and he went back to his book and ultimatley the film, SHOOT TO KILL. Anyways, my brief meet was nice -- and I can understand why he has such a solid fan base as this ... Clancy Brown was and likely still is one heck of a nice guy! |

| Comments: | I must have watched Startship Troopers 3 times, at the last time I was attracted to this drill-sergeant, with a distinguish voice. You've only lasted the 1st half of the movie and lucky for me, right at the end, be the hero! Even luckier I taped the movie and made a point of slowing it down to find out who Sgt. Zim is. There it's, Clancy Brown. I must admit Shawshank Redemption is a better movie and I don't like your character being demoted to private while Rico became Lieutenant (who is very unconvincing!). I found out about the other movies you did and got the Highlander as well. I am amazed how convincing you're of doing villian, Kurgan really scared me, yet the one that got me you're the good guy!
Unfortunately most of your work is base in th US, hope I will see some of them in the near future. Carry on the good work and may be one day I can meet you in person. Take care. |
