I like your webpage and really enjoyed Shelia's Christmas letter. I did not send out cards this year as I am now living in Rome. We staff the American Church here, called Santa Susanna, built over the spot where she was killed, a martyr in the 4th century. In May 2010 I finished as President of the Paulists but the next eight months were not the easiest. My last year in office, the Vice-President, which whom I lived at our headquarters, just the two of us was dying of stomach cancer. He passed on in August 2010. All during his illness I was ignoring my shortness of breath and it caught up with me in February 2011. I was unconscious to myself for 22 hours, they found me in an elevator in our residence where I was then living in mid-town Manhattan. They thought stroke or tumor; I had all kinds of tests all negative. To sum I have an arrythymia which was causing the shortness of breath. I did not need a defribulator, just medication and am walking the streets and hills of Rome with ease and no attack of shortness of breath in a year. You can probably see that we sold our property on Oak Ridge to the State of New Jersey, a little over two years ago. If you ever get to Rome, pleaelook me up. Let me know if you received this e-mail. Just spent a couple days at Martin Fest in Nazareth. Great experience. Saw you were signed up to attend from the UMGF but I didn't see you. Sorry for that. I was humbled by the gracious gift of guitars you have blessed the Martin museum with. Kindness and generosity. I would like to incorporate Low C tuning into my play list. I have played a lot of DADGAD to-date, and I am quite accustomed to evaluating scale vs. string gauge for various tunings. What baffles me is how (what's the secret) to play Low C as you do, on a 25.4 scale. I'm guessing that Larry Pattis probably does it on his 24" scale. Am I missing something or over-thinking it? | Comments: | Hey! Greetings from Portland Oregon. Some years ago I picked up an acoustic compilation at my local music store. It was free or maybe a buck I don't remember, but you never know there might be some great treasure buried in there or at least something interesting. Two treasures were on this disk. What ever I went to the music store for was quickly forgotten. One was by a Michael hewitt , areally well written song pretty hard to play well .title was French I think. And el mcmeen lemans. I don't remember how I got the tab for these songs , but playing lemans was so comfortable I had enough attention span to actually enjoy the music coming from my guitar as if I were the audience. It was an amazing experience. Thank you el! That is a beautiful song and it's made it's mark on me. Congrats on your award.
