Comments:Hi,

What a great website. I had to put my 8 year old Buddy to sleep on Wednesday from Kidey Failure. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I don't think I could go through that again so I probably won't get another one. What a beautiful bread. Someone was thinking of a Basset Hound when thay said dog is man's best friend.

Comments:Hi Katie.

Man, I LOVE Bassetts and have all my life. I just put my 12 yrs old Bassett down on March 23 from Cancer of the sPleen.. I miss her so much, she was the most loveable, loyal dog I have ever had. I still keep thinking she is going to poke her head around the corner and it never comes. I made her a scrap book that I look at about 4 times a day just so I can see her beautiful sad eyes. How I long to see those again someday at Rainbow bridge.
Thanks for your site for all those Bassett Lovers..

AMY

Comments:Hi, dont even know if you're still updating Katies page- it's now March 2007 and I;ve had my Basset Flo for 4 months - never had a dog like her, she's stubborn, smelly, whiney and well cute despite the fact she drives me nuts and is SOOOOO disobedient! I loved reading your news over the last 11 years. Did you ever get your BH's to listen to you?! All the best, angie, UK

Comments:I have an eleven year old Bassett Hound that I got in Maryland, but was born in South Dakota on Aug 5, 1995. He is now having trouble with his back legs and is dragging them around. It is really hard for me to take him in and be put to sleep, but then again I can't afford the surgery for the Vet to maybe fix the problem. I keep telling myself that I am being selfish and I need to do the right thing and help him. But then I look at him and see him eating and using the bathroom on his own and think that maybe there is a chance that he will regain strength in his back legs and start walking normal again and playing like he was doing last week. Any advice on what I should do will be gladly appreciated

Comments:I enjoyed your story. I currently have one basset, Freckles, 85 lbs., 9 years old, adopted. I had to help Lucy, my 14-1/2 year old faithful companion, on her trip to the Rainbow Bridge June a year ago..she was blind, deaf, had hip dysplacia (sp), and rectal cancer. I felt it was kinder for her than to let her suffer. I sure do miss her. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make.

I hope your story has a wonderful ending!

The second one is a boy name"Fred".We still have him.He is
4years old now.The third one we got was a girl,she was a
little more to handle,as she had to be with a woman at all
times.A wonderfull lady has her now.Fred is one of the best
bassetts I have ever had.He does not chew on any thing or
meet a stranger.Everyone loves him,and we do keep him on
a leash when he is out side.Fred is very smart and has little special tricks he likes to do.We got Fred and our first bassett from a man in Collinsville Al.This man raises
some great dogs.He takes pride in each one.Fred goes just about every where we do.We run a campground in Tennessee,
needless to say Fred is a big hit here. The ones that know that we have Fred always have to give him some lovin'!!!
We wish you all the best with your marriage and have a great life.Your friends in Tennessee-Great Smokey Mountains.

Comments:Years ago I had a Basset Hound that lived to be 17! He even got hit by a school bus when he was 10 and survived a fractured pelvis. However, he was the most miserable dog I ever knew. But he touched my heart. Now, I'm a 60 yr old grandmother and about to rescue another one! Just something about those sad eyes! I love your web site. Please keep it going and let us know what's new in Katie's Basset world. Great site :)

I can only hope that there truely is a rainbow bridge. I got a basset puppy this past Friday. I can only hope that she gives me half as much joy as Michelle did.

Rest in peace Michelle, my friend.

Comments:What a wonderful website! My first Basset crossed the "Rainbow Bridge" 2 months ago. His name was Baxter and we loved him dearly, but his liver quit functioning, and we had to let go. My husband's boss talked us into taking in a Basset named Molly that his twin girls had. They also had two other Basset's and the girl dogs did not get along.
Molly is a part time inside/part time outside dog. She is very well trained, and is such a joy. She is very loveable. We will enjoy her all we can every day until some day she leaves us too. What a wonderful thing Basset Hounds are!

Comments:i thought your stories were really cute.. i am 18 and i just bought my boyfriend a basset hound. he has wanted one for years so i decided i would get him one for his birthday.. She is fixing to be 8 weeks old. we got her when she was 5 weeks old. her name is daisy mae and she reminds me of your dog.. she likes to try and eat my hair when i am laying down, she loves playing rough.. barking and growling (playfully) when we tug on her toys while they are in her mouth.. she is teething so she tries to nibble and bite on your arms and fingers.. for a small dog her teeth can really hurt.. well i just wanted to say that your puppy is adorable and i am sorry to hear about your first one.. good luck with your demon dog!!!!! haha bye melissa

Comments:Love your pictures and stories. Right now my husband and I have two Bassets. Both are rescue dogs. The smallest (60 pounds) is named Willie. He was two when we got him and we have had both he and his brother, Henry, (86 pounds) for nearly four years. Willie is so cute and lovable and minds beautifully. He was abused by previous people but we have made up for it with all our love. Henry is a beautiful basset (show dog material) and was five when we got him. His owner was on life support. We got them both on the same day and couldn't be happier. We previously had Georgette and had her for 11 years. She was so sweet and we raised her from a pup. Her death was very hard to accept. Then we adopted Mortimer - he was in the pound. He drove us crazy but we could not have loved him more. He was into everything. When he died we were heartbroken. We also adopted Pilgrim, a little crippled Basset that followed me everywhere I went and I still miss him. He died shortly before we adopted Henry and Willie. We have so loved all our Bassets.

Comments:My name is Summer & I love basset hounds. I got my first basset hound when I was 8 yrs. old, her name was Sugarfoot. She was a year old when we got her & had been abused by her brothers & sisters. When we got her she looked pittiful because she was so skinny, but we fattened her up real quick. I had Sugarfoot for about 4 years. She wandered over to the golf course right next to our house & I beleive someone probably picked her up. I got my 2nd basset when I was 14 & his name was Forrest Milo. I had Forrest for about 3 years. The same thing happened to Forrest. He wandered around & I think he got kidnapped because we looked & looked for him & there was no sign that he had been ran over. I am now 24 & married, & my husband has finally agreed to get me another basset because I am crazy about them. Some advice for someone getting a basset: keep them in a fenced area, or on a leash, or inside! If not, they will wander around & either get kidnapped or ran over.

Comments:Hi, I had a Besset named Heidi that we got in 1992. She was the most loving creature I've ever had the pleasure to meet. She had to be put to sleep around Christmas of 2004. It was one of the toughest things I've ever had to deal with. I loved that dog more than anything in this world. She made us smile no matter how bad your day went. She was more loving and caring than most people I know, and all of that without ever speeking a word. Dogs truly are man's best freind, and Bassets are my favorite. I was reading this site and started to cry tears of sadness and laughter. Watching Katie grow up with all the Bassets brings up lots of good memories for me. Katie, or her dad, please continue to update things so we can watch her grow and see more Basset pictures. Oh, by the way, I live in Columbus, OH and we get lots of snow. Bassets are funny in deep snow.

Comments: Hello Katie.

Your site is really cool. I love my Penny Sue. She is a purebred that was given to my by my cousins because they thought she was stupid!!! I knew better, but she is very willful and stubborn. Sometimes she tells me what to do, like "Go for a walk, NOW!!" I love her voice and her attitude, except when I tell her "No". Then she scolds me and pouts. She was 2 when we got her. I read a book when I was young about a Basset named Penny, and have wanted one ever since. Now I'm 34, and my dream came true. Just like the book, she excapes the fence and visits all the neighbors. They play with her, then bring her home. I have to keep her on a tie-down because I am so afraid of traffic. She can jump our 4 ft fence, and climb our apple tree. Her favorite thing is to take a shower with me. She jumps right in the tub. She is the most friendly and sweet little girly, and my 14 yr old daughter is her best friend. Her first name was Flash, after the dog on the old Dukes of Hazzard TV show, but it didn't fit her, so she is Penny for the dog in the book, and Sue for the Beach Boys song. "Love ya gal, and I need ya Peggy Sue." But I like Penny Sue. I would love to hear from you, (or anyone else) about our Bassets. Good luck in life.
