| Comments: | In 1949 I bought a 1927 Erskine for $45.00,$25.00 down,$5.00 per week(I had a paper route} until paid for,from a Kaiser/Fraizer dealer in Van Wert,Oh.
It was a 6cyl flat head w/a vaccum tank serving as a fuel pump. The only thing that didn't work was the gas gage. Someone had replaced the headlights w/sealed beams and at night you could only drive 15 min and it would start missing,so you had to pull off the road, turn off the lights and let it run for 10 min and then you were good for another 15-20 mins.I got tired of that and went to a salvage yard and bought two big chrome headlights off of a 1932 Lincoln which had bulbs in them.I still had real good headlights and it never missed a beat again. If I remember correctly, the headlights cleared both the radiator and the fenders by 1/4 inch. It had rather narrow tires w/17in. rims and I found a set of tire chains that fit.We had a 15in snow fall and the old Erskine was the only car that was moving. No school of course,so we loaded it with kids and ran around town until the town marshall made me park it because we were interfering with the tractors and the front loaders removing the snow from the streets. I painted the body blue, the fenders red and the wooden spooked wheels dafodil yellow.(it was originally two tone green)I removed the muffler, added a straight piece of pip[ and at the left rear I added a vertical piece of downspout. It looked like it might be a diesel and it was not very loud.I had loads of fun with the old Erskine and when I entered the Air Force in 1952,I drove it to the salvage yard and received $15.00 for it.Isn't that a shame? | Comments: | My Grandfather owned a '29 Erskine until his death. It was a 4-door sedan and it had dual sidemounts and a large wooden trunk that was held closed by 2 wide leather straps. It was in really good condition except fo the floor behind the front seat where he would throw his hand tools. He was a well driller and used the car as his daily driver until he retired and was unable to drive. One of my fondest memories is going with him on an unauthorized ride to church. When my Grandfather died in 1951 my father and his brother decided to junk the car. They drove it to the junkyard and sold it for $25 scrap value. I was 7 yrs. old. What a waste! I loved that beautiful old car! |

We have a James Marr, Howard Marr my fathers father and Thomas Marr my father. If I remeber corectly he was told he would be the 16th Earl of Mar, My grandfather Howard Marr. Any information would be helpful. Our ancestors came here from scotland on my fathers side of the family. As I was told there was some difficulty with the line up for the english thrown and they wanted us out of the country. My grandfathers father is one of the 4 sons that came to America. Their father was the Erskin that came here. We were told that at that time they keopt the Sir name for the Earldom and added another R at the time to avoid using the Erskin name. |

If it has a tool box on driver side and battery box on the passenager side, it's a 1927. I'm presently street rodding a four door sedan, they are sweet looking autos for 1927. Very little wood compare to Ford and Chevy's. Thank you for your guestbook! |

| Comments: | In 1966-67 I had the pleasure to do some repair-job on a Erskine 6 cyl car. This was in the Norw. Air-force 334 sqd. in Bodų. The top gasket of the motor vas blown, and as the possibility to buy a new was just a dream, we made a new gasket using gasket-sheet and a hammer to lock the necessary holes and shape. The motor started and run as a dream until some of the guys was using it in temperature below 10-15 degrees celsius. The radiator froze and as a result the motor was owerheated and that was that. |

| Comments: | Just googled my maiden name and found your site - always been proud of the Erskine name, nice to see a little interest in other parts of the country. I understand that three Erskine brothers came to the US (New York I THINK) in about 1713, two stayed, the other returned to Scotland. One of those brothers traveled south and toward the midwest and the other moved north to Canada. I have a copy of a geneology written by an ancestor of the brother who went to Canada - which I found in a second hand store near my home town in the Pacific Northwest. My father had four Erskine uncles two went west and built churches on the Oregon trail, one went to Idaho and I do not know where the other one traveled or lived. He was raised in Nebraska where his parents were successful in farming and relocated to Idaho when the dustbowl and bank failures hit in 1929. According to my father, none of the uncles got along. Of his family, his brother lived in Sioux City Iowa and was a state representative there, owned a gas station and car repair business. His oldest brother died young and his sister ran a farm in Nebraska - they are all deceased.
I've always thought our tartan to be quite ugly until I saw the dress version which is black and white - instead of Christmas colors. Every once in a while I've found Christmas wrapping in that plaid. Well, nice chatting - nice to meet another Erskine - a Judy no less. Hee hee. Regards, Judy Erskine Ford |

My fiance, who is a direct decendent of William Erskine, son of Bobbing John, is planning a trip to Scotland and now we know where to go to see his family's ancestry.
