| Comments: | dude,
this was an awesome few pages to read. i had the same story somewhat, other than it was the other way across the atlantic. back in London where i used to work for a while, i fell in LUV with an old 83 CJ7 RHD that i decided to restore. that was back in 97! Now i'm stateside and i shipped Lafayette with me (that's the name) to the northern NJ. been restoring it ever since with new pain, lost of bondo, a new 360ci and plenty of weekends and evening trying to figure out what possessed me to keep the ol' thing :) RHD is pretty cool over here though and i never get tired of the comments. but it means i always look for parts. i have dealt with John from Just Jeeps. are they still around? man i left a lot of $$$ with them, i mean a lot! anyway, i'm trying to build a database of UK jeep parts businesses/junk yards. you mentioned places around Doncaster for instance. would you mind sharing a few of those phone numbers so i can track down some specific items (such as a rebuild kit for RHD steering box for instance)? i would really appreciate your help with this. Chrysler is useless and my CJ is older than most of the mechanics out there... if they can't find the outlet for the computer diagnostic, they won't even look at it :) anyway, thanks for your help, i look forward to hear from you and good luck with the new monster toy. | Comments: | Yes my friend. There is no other toy than the JEEP. I am peticularly fond of the FSJ's. I have an 84 Wagoneer with a 4" susp. lift and a set of 33's. But I also like the XJ's and CJ's. If it says JEEP I will gladly get behind the wheel. I like your site and think you should expand it.

| Comments: | I have a question. I have been rebuilding a friends 1977 Jeep with a 304 engine it it.
The question is, he had taken the power steering braket and the alternator braket off. before I got the jeep. If you have a picture of which goes where and how they bolt back-up to that engine it would be great. Also he has a different type of four wheel drive system, which I have never seen before. It is enganged by a vacum line system. When he got the jeep, all the vacum lines were off. If you have something that would help me with the attaching of those vacum lines. Thank you so much if you can help. |

| Comments: | I enjoyed your story very much. I have just bought a 91 YJ.
Your second CJ was very nice!!! but it is better to keep away from Jeeps with so many modifications installed espesially if the vehicle was modified by someone else since you can not actually learned its modification process. In order a Jeep to have 35" tyres, a very tall lift along with a engine which is not its original then many other things must change as well so that the vehicle is safe and does not break so often as most do. The brake design should change and when i say change i do not mean larger or stronger brakes i mean that a new Computer aided design should be apllied to the new load distribution and behaviour of the vehicle so that the new brake design is efficient and will work as the original spesifications required. larger brakes does not always mean efficient braking!! The axles should change to stronger designs but again the right axle for any particular vehicle depends on the vehicle total modifications and close approaches like the Dana 44 or 60 which are widely used by jeepers may be the wrong choise and harm the car.The drive angles should be kept at the original values and..... etc. I am writing this long comment because i have seen that the most jeepers use the advise of the 'Local Mechanic' or a friend who 'knows' and do modifications without taking into considiration the efects of these modifications on the rest of the parts and forget that the engine, brakes, axles trasmission, and suspension, work as a team and are effected by eachother. They always think with standarisations like for example that the 'Dana 44 is the ideal axle for a jeep'for yours it might be or might be not. The result would be that the jeep breaks a lot or it is kept to be used only for off road sundays! Many people do not understand the amount of precision and analysis a suspension, axle or brake system requires in order everything together to work properly and not only to seem it does and they really make their vehicles worst and this is the point where most they start spending money on repairs and buy the same parts again and again. |
