<br>Office Manager at Design Verification Testing Labs or DVT.
<br>I basically run the office: deal w/customers, answer
<br>phones, paperwork, run tests, and a multituide of other
<br>tasks. In case you wonder what we do at DVT, I'll tell you.
<br>We test vendor products in order to ensure their saftey,
<br>quality & reliability before they are sold. We do test
<br>anything from heart-pacers to the packaging of cookies.
<br>This is my first distance class and Im looking forward to
<br>it. I have been at De Anza for what feels like forever
<br>trying to figure out what I want to do with myself. I will
<br>be able to transfer to SJSU by next year if i keep plugging
<br>away. There are a few professions I know I would enjoy and
<br>be good at. The first, is a Veternarian. I was raised in
<br>the Los Gatos mountains around all kinds of animals my
<br>whole life and I love & appreciate all of them. I Managed a
<br>pet store for a couple of years to get the feel for that-
<br>and in doing so I realized I would much rather be care-
<br>taking animals then purchasing and selling them. The second
<br>profession I would enjoy would be teacher. I worked in a
<br>First Grade Special Ed. class as an aid for about 6 months
<br>and I really liked the feeling that I had made a difference
<br>in the childrens lives. In my experience-paperwork cannot
<br>greet you in the same "unconditionally loving" way that
<br>children and animals can. The last superb book I read was
<br>the Bible. It has been by far the most influencial book of
<br>my life. It is the kind of book that I can pick up and turn
<br>to almost any page and find a verse that is helpful and
<br>enlightening. Well, I am done rambling, hope this little
<br>blurp about me gives you all a little glimpse at who I am.

<br>Manager for a connector manufacturer. My company makes
<br>connectors for telephones and computers. I have a husband,
<br>three teenage children, and three middle-aged dogs. My
<br>son, Jeremy (18), just started college at De Anza last
<br>week. My daughter, Emily (16), is a junior at Fremont High
<br>School, and my daughter, Maria (15) is a sophomore at
<br>Mayville High School, in Mayville, Michigan (she lives with
<br>her Dad.) Chelsea is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Snausage
<br>(my son's dog) is part Collie and part German Shepard, and
<br>Jake is part Terrier and part Black Lab.
<br>
<br>I travel a lot in my job - I cover all of California,
<br>Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska - so distance
<br>learning courses are perfect for me. Even if I'm in
<br>Anchorage, I can still make it to class on Wednesday
<br>night! I'm taking this class in order to transfer to
<br>SJSU. Hopefully, I will be able to start at SJSU next
<br>fall. I have this class, EWRT1B, and one science class
<br>left to take before I can transfer.
<br>
<br>My hobbies are gardening and reading. I love to read. My
<br>favorite non-fiction subject is History. I'm particularly
<br>interested in ancient civilizations (Egyptian, South
<br>American, and African are my favorites), the lifetime of
<br>Jesus and the early Christian period, and the Medieval
<br>period. My favorite kinds of fiction are the murder
<br>mystery and the historical novel. This past summer I read
<br>two historical novels by Wibur Smith called "River God" and
<br>"The Seventh Scroll." Both novels are set in ancient
<br>Egypt. Both are excellent entertainment. I also read Anne
<br>Perry's Inspector Monk mysteries which are set in Victorian
<br>London. There are four in the series but the first one is
<br>the best. It's called "Face of a Stranger." Monk wakes up
<br>in the hospital and has no memory of who he is and the
<br>whole story is about him using his detective skills to
<br>discover his past. A very good story. But the best
<br>reading I did this summer is the Brother Cadfael series by
<br>Ellis Peters. This is a series of 20 novels in which
<br>Brother Cadfael, a monk of the Abbey of Saint Peter and
<br>Saint Paul at Shrewsbury, solves all manner of medieval
<br>murders. If you're interested in the medieval period, you
<br>should definitely try these. I'm on the 17th of the series
<br>now and it's a good one!
<br>
<br>But I think, though, if I were to recommend a book it would
<br>be "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco. Again, this
<br>novel is set in the medieval period and is probably the
<br>best novel I have ever read.
<br>
<br>I would be willng to have my picture posted on the website
<br>- it's always good to have a face to go with a name.
<br>
<br>I think my biggest claim to fame will be when I finally get
<br>my degree. I've been working at it for years - one class
<br>at a time - and I know some day it will happen. Till then,
<br>I guess it would have to be that I have one kid graduated
<br>from high school and the other two are looking good, too!</td>
