I love outdoor activities, food, music and I play the Indian stringed instrument called Veena. I work full time as Production Manager at Gap Inc, San Francisco. I love my work which is exciting and challenging. I am excited about this class and I know ia m going to enjoy it. |

| Comments: | Hello, my name is Melissa and I am currently working as an
Office Manager at Design Verification Testing Labs or DVT. I basically run the office: deal w/customers, answer phones, paperwork, run tests, and a multituide of other tasks. In case you wonder what we do at DVT, I'll tell you. We test vendor products in order to ensure their saftey, quality & reliability before they are sold. We do test anything from heart-pacers to the packaging of cookies. This is my first distance class and Im looking forward to it. I have been at De Anza for what feels like forever trying to figure out what I want to do with myself. I will be able to transfer to SJSU by next year if i keep plugging away. There are a few professions I know I would enjoy and be good at. The first, is a Veternarian. I was raised in the Los Gatos mountains around all kinds of animals my whole life and I love & appreciate all of them. I Managed a pet store for a couple of years to get the feel for that- and in doing so I realized I would much rather be care- taking animals then purchasing and selling them. The second profession I would enjoy would be teacher. I worked in a First Grade Special Ed. class as an aid for about 6 months and I really liked the feeling that I had made a difference in the childrens lives. In my experience-paperwork cannot greet you in the same "unconditionally loving" way that children and animals can. The last superb book I read was the Bible. It has been by far the most influencial book of my life. It is the kind of book that I can pick up and turn to almost any page and find a verse that is helpful and enlightening. Well, I am done rambling, hope this little blurp about me gives you all a little glimpse at who I am. I am looking forward to learning more about all of you. |

I just finished 'the Hunchback of Notre Dame' and I recommend it to everyone. I work at home in a family-ran business, making candles. In one year, I will be tranfering out of De Anza to AUP to receive my degree in software engineering -Hope to email with you guys soon! :) |

| Comments: | Hey. I'm Jenn. I just quit a job as an office manager
for the ESL program at SJSU in order to do temping for accounting agencies. I'm hoping this move will free up my mind and energy for getting back to school to become a teacher/reformer. I'm pretty young, but I've got a cool little family that I devote myself to and think these online courses are incredible for workers/parents. Anyone heard of Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor? Do yourself a good thing and read it. It was simply the most beautiful story, the most awe-inspiring writing... I noticed many of you mentioning that you would like to attend SJSU. They have a fee-waiver program for employees and there are always openings in many different areas. UC Santa Clara also has a tuition remission program. |

| Comments: | I was born in Holland, and I came to the U.S. three years
ago with my husband and two children. I read the following book a very long time ago, and I'm not sure if the author's name is correct, but it's so good I want to mention it anyway. It is ALI & NINO by Seyyid Kurban, and it's about the love between a young Muslim dignitary* and a Christian Georgian princess in pre-Russian Baku (Azerbaijan). It was first published in German, and then translated into English (and Dutch), and it is a very fresh and beautiful story. The author was a Jew who had converted to Islam.* *How can I say this in a better way? I'm still learning English, so if anyone thinks I write something in a funny way, please correct me. |

| Comments: | Hello everyone. My name is April and I'm a Regional Sales
Manager for a connector manufacturer. My company makes connectors for telephones and computers. I have a husband, three teenage children, and three middle-aged dogs. My son, Jeremy (18), just started college at De Anza last week. My daughter, Emily (16), is a junior at Fremont High School, and my daughter, Maria (15) is a sophomore at Mayville High School, in Mayville, Michigan (she lives with her Dad.) Chelsea is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Snausage (my son's dog) is part Collie and part German Shepard, and Jake is part Terrier and part Black Lab. I travel a lot in my job - I cover all of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska - so distance learning courses are perfect for me. Even if I'm in Anchorage, I can still make it to class on Wednesday night! I'm taking this class in order to transfer to SJSU. Hopefully, I will be able to start at SJSU next fall. I have this class, EWRT1B, and one science class left to take before I can transfer. My hobbies are gardening and reading. I love to read. My favorite non-fiction subject is History. I'm particularly interested in ancient civilizations (Egyptian, South American, and African are my favorites), the lifetime of Jesus and the early Christian period, and the Medieval period. My favorite kinds of fiction are the murder mystery and the historical novel. This past summer I read two historical novels by Wibur Smith called "River God" and "The Seventh Scroll." Both novels are set in ancient Egypt. Both are excellent entertainment. I also read Anne Perry's Inspector Monk mysteries which are set in Victorian London. There are four in the series but the first one is the best. It's called "Face of a Stranger." Monk wakes up in the hospital and has no memory of who he is and the whole story is about him using his detective skills to discover his past. A very good story. But the best reading I did this summer is the Brother Cadfael series by Ellis Peters. This is a series of 20 novels in which Brother Cadfael, a monk of the Abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul at Shrewsbury, solves all manner of medieval murders. If you're interested in the medieval period, you should definitely try these. I'm on the 17th of the series now and it's a good one! But I think, though, if I were to recommend a book it would be "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco. Again, this novel is set in the medieval period and is probably the best novel I have ever read. I would be willng to have my picture posted on the website - it's always good to have a face to go with a name. I think my biggest claim to fame will be when I finally get my degree. I've been working at it for years - one class at a time - and I know some day it will happen. Till then, I guess it would have to be that I have one kid graduated from high school and the other two are looking good, too! |

am an account coordinator (which just means I deal with orders from clients for ads being placed in magazines!). I am working on finishing my general ed so that I can transfer to SJSU and hopefully one day become an elementary school teacher! I love to play sports..anything..softball, swimming, golf. The last good book I read was the Deep End of the Ocean by Jacquelyn Mitchard! |

| Comments: | Hi!!! My name is Tracee and I am currently working as an

Though I have many interests ranging from music and movies to sports and other outdoor adventures I can hardly find the time these days to enjoy doing any of them. Having been recently introduced to the Bible I must say that it has to be the best book I have encountered (though I doubt I could ever read the whole thing). I am looking forward to my new experience with this distance learning class. |

| Comments: | Hello, I am working in a dental office being trained as a
dental assistant. My short term goal is to increase my knowledge in order to pass the Registared Dental Assistant state exam (RDA)in July or August of next year. My long term goal is, after completing general education, transfer to Foothill for the Hygenist program. The book that has had the most effect on me would have to be the Bible, I cannot honestly say that I have read it cover to cover, but I do read it on a weekly baisis, a schedual that in three years will complete the entire book. |

Anything from mugs to apparel to custom awards and so on. I'm taking this class to finsih my GE requirements and transfer to SJSU next year hopefully for a major in English. I love writing when I have time (poetry mostly), reading (a huge sci/fi-fantasy fiend), playing pool, and really cheesy movies. Looking forward to experiencing a distance class for the first time! Oh and the last really good book I read was The Blood Countess by Andrei Codrescu. It's based on a real woman, Elizabeth of Bathory and she was allegedly the first woman serial killer. She murdered, in creative and gruesome ways, some 600 girls and women. It's excellently written and quick to read - try it! |
