Comments:i'm owned by a CAg,Jango,a severe macaw,Boba, a B&G <Leia and the newest memeber of our Flock is Bly a little yellow Ringneck.i was alwasy a big Birdlover and had like to adopt a bird,to give one a second chence in a loving home, but i had to find out in a hard way, that most of the rescues here, make it very difficult to adopt a bird,i think thats very sad and lots of birds will not get a chance of a great home over this.i still would like to give another bird a chance, but if the rescues don't change their Laws,it will not happens for us and we'll end up to buy another bird and not adopt one.i know how to take care of birds and make sure they are in a safe place and that nothing will harm them.anyway,i'm glad it give people what rescue birds and take care of them,so good job and i wish you all the best for you and the birds and maybe one day, a bird in need will find they way to us and gets all the love and attention it needs.

Comments:I love your web site and all that you do to help parrots, and all birds. I have a lovely African Grey that I hand fed as a tot and is now almost seven years old. My problem bird, the one that squalks and bites now, was a dream companion for 15 years. Snoopy is a Severe Macaw, a good talker and smells real nice. I don't know what caused him to change. I would love to find a safe comfortable place for him to live where he could have some freedom.

We'd love to volunteer some time and perhaps foster a bird or two! It's great to see more organizations out there that promote education and the reality of having a bird...it's a lifelong committment!!

Comments:What a great site. I especially loved the photos. My name is Mark and I live here in Homeland. I moved here to take care of my aging parents on thier 1 1/2 acre property approx 1 yr. ago. I am a Expert Handyman as well as a regular Volunteer for a Seniors Organazation here in my area. I've grown very close to these Seniors, so many have family/kids but they never visit them. To make a long story short, somehow I came to realize there was a bond/connection between these lonely Seniors and Birds, though they may not actually own a bird due to thier inability to care for them, they absolutely love to talk to them. Which is why I decided since we have the room on our property to start building an Aviary. My first was an old but large Chain Link enclosure, I cleaned it out spent my hard earned money on good 1/4 wire, sectioned it off into 4 Walk-in Cages and as with everything I do, am very proud of the results. I have been blessed, all my birds have been donated to me for the Senior's enjoyment. They come by throughout the day and just love to stand out there and talk to them, which if i'm out here, i'll take a gander out of my window and see this and it absolutely makes me feel like I have done something "Fantastic" and brightened someone's life in this cruel world of War, Grief & Hate that we live in. I've just about got enough money to buy another huge roll of the expensive wire/mesh to start building phase 2 of my Mission/Aviaries. This will be a 10 ft Circular Walk-in Cage around the base of a giant Shade tree! NOt only will it be large enough to house many larger sized birds, but it's unique shape will be pleasing to the eye which is as I said..."My Specialty". I also now have around the side of my Aviary 2 Large Ponds with large Goldfish & beautiful Water Hyacinth to compliment my Aviary & property in general. I currently have Cocktiels, Lovebirds, Parakeets & Finches. With all the beautiful song coming from each bird every morning, not even Pavoratti can touch the beautiful music that I enjoy every morning and I would never trade it for all the money in the world! Keep up the great work here on your site!

Comments:Hi, Sadly I live on the other coast. After 12 years I had my umbrella cockatoo basicly stolen from me. I went into the hospital suddenly and as I was on vacation in Fl Fred went to the aspca. Within a few days they told me I had to sign him over to them or they would put him down. So of course I did. When I went to retreive him they told me he'd been sent to a rescue. Then they daid they couldn't tell me which one. They came real close to haveing a mad man in there place. I have searched the net, called rescues, but no Fred. As soon as I get the money I'm going back to hunt for him in person. God how I miss my little guy in the feathered PJ's Peter

Comments:I had no idea there was an organization such as Parrots First! We just lost our Cherry Headed Conure last Sunday, he died in my arms. We had cared for him for 21 years and we are feeling such a great loss as he was such a part of our family. I believe he was imported and we had no idea how old he was when we purchased him maybe five or six years! So I am searching the web for another friend and adoption may be an option we were not aware of until today.

Comments:What a nice website! We recently adopted a half moon conure. His story. He had a severly overgrown beak. It had split and was bleeding. I could see it just needed trimming and the old man who owned him couldn't afford a vet, so I trimmed it up. He just laid in my hand and let me do what needed to be done. We had to feed him Exact for a while and he grew stronger. Then the man died so he came to live with us. We call him little Big man. He loves to crawl around in caves and nibble ears. He tries to play with the bigger birds, (2 Macaws, 2 yellow heads and a lilac crown, but we don't let him, for his own safety. We are looking for a mate for him. Also, we have been looking for a mate for Barney, because Plato, the yellow head and Babu, the lilac, are in love and poor Barney, the female yellow head sits alone. But...it would have to be a very special bird that loved Barney back as much as she would love him (she's very needy) My name, Birdauslady came about when a neighbor was complaining about the noise. He would stand out by the fence yelling "Hey Bird house Lady!

Comments:I was very fortunate to meet you at the Best Friends Adoption Festival in Burbank, CA in March. I really appreciate your interest and info. My umbrella cockatoo "Bede" arrived through customs around 1984. She was a love from the first and even though thrown into a non-bird-educated chaotic household with 3 teenage boys, she managed to remain the same. During her "teen years" she did a real "number" on my jewelry and some shelves but we won't go there right now. When the boys moved out she began picking feathers. I think she was bored. She has her own color TV (and a cat and dog) but the feather picking has become a lifelong habit.(She once got a part in a movie where they needed a "sick-looking" bird that anybody could handle for a vet hospital scene. She was perfect.) I am definitely interested in adoption and am looking forward to Ms. O'Conner's seminar on April 14. Thank you so much for being there.

Comments:Oh my goodness,I didn't know there was such a place as this and it makes my heart race to think there might be a chance to adopt a parrot. We dearly love Birds but the cost has gotten so high that we just can't purchase one. I stop at the pet store at least twice a week and just look and wish. We have had birds in the past and my husband was in construction so we had to move around from time to time and now he has retired, our children are all married and gone and we would love to have a parrot to fill those empty spots in our hearts. we are 62 and 65 and know how much love, care, and attention we are more than willing to give. It has been about 15 years since we have had our blue and gold but I still have the food cups, water cups and my large stainless t-stand that had. I have kept it hopeing someday to be able to use it again. Thank you for what you are doing. God made all of us for a special reason and you may be fulfilling that purpose. If you have a parrot that needs a loving home, please consider us. WE live in Jonesboro,Arkansas. Thanks Again. Larry and Norma

I am part of a lifesaving forum named 'chatparrots' we are a warm open hearted group of parrot owners. We are all warm positive people and angry posts never rear their ugly heads on our forum. If you are similarly friendly please take a look. I never owned a bird until Chico and I could not believe one could cuddle a bird. we have been together almost a year and intend to spend many more years together until I have to hand over to my son who will love Chico as he already does... hopefully that will be a few decades from now!! Comments:We are the lucky parronts of two rescued parrots, a half-moon conure and maximillion pionus; they are the loves of our lives. We do not support the pet trade and am so happy that you have dedicated this organization to helping unfortunate parrots find happy and safe homes. Too many people buy a parrot from a store or breeder because they're pretty, and then find out that they take more effort and responsibility than they can handle - they aren't something that can be kept in a cage. If these amazing creatures can't be free to live in a wild flock, then organizations like yours help to place them in "foster flocks" where they can live out their lives in comfort and care. Thank you.

Comments:I just recently lost my African Grey. I rescued him from a drunk abusive man and kept him for several years. On Labor Day he got sick and died. The neckropsy revealed that he died of a heart attack. I didn't realize how much company he was. My home seems very empty now. I would like to get another African Grey. I have a friend that has 16 birds that have been rescued and they have adopted them. Going to their house has helped the emptiness that I have been feeling over my dear Louie.... Thank you for having a sight that I can read of others helping those precious birds.

Comments: Hi my names ashley, i live in san jose california, i have been looking at parrots for a long time and at the end of the school year i'm getting one, my mother owned birds about 10 years ago, we love bird waching and have lots of wild bird books. At first i thought i would get a bird from a breeder (ruffled feathers aviary) i did a lot of studying, but dicided i wanted to get a bird that needed a new home, with lots of loving peaple. We do have a ball python, but she will ot grow much more and is only 3 1/2 feet long, and keeped away from other pets, but still gets lots of love and attention from me. i hope that we get a bird from a shelter and if we dont, we will still get one from a breeder or a pet shop near our house that is very good, (dolphin pet village) they bird sit and are very helpfull. WE have had exotic pets before and know, we have african sout american cichlid fish, ball python, leaperd gecko, we use to have a large iguana (but sadly she died when she got sick and was to old to survive it) And we use to have birds. Ashley

Comments:I grow up having a parrot as a sibling. He spoke like an adult and had alway hatted me. You see, Paco, was my moms first child. She has him for about 10 years before i came along. When i was born Paco did not like me. It took a long time before Paco came around to liking me. But I loved him so much my mom would let him sleep with me and we grew up together until I had to move. I was 15 years old the last time i saw Paco and I remember hating my mom for having to leave him behind with my aunt. Paco died six months after we moved. It was hard on me, I felt a little responsible for his death. It's been over 13 years since we had a bird in our house hold. I know have a family of my own and would like to adopt an African Grey for our family. I would like for my children to have a companion as loveable and funny as i did when i was their age.

It has vaulted ceilings and is very sunny and happy (I live in Rancho Mirage) and now I can provide a home for another bird. Your parrot pictures were very nice and all captured my instant love...some really in particular. You said you turn away birds, perhaps you can even provide those folks with my phone number to save a turn away. So that's the short of it. I'm open to the wonderful Meyer's parrot, Eclectus, Red-sided, pionus, well, the list goes on.

One day I came home from school and the bird was gone the big old table hewalked around on was empty my father said he was about 50 years old and it was his time to go to this day I think about our bird and still kind of miss him.

Comments:Recently I lost my most beautiful, intelligent, funny, and wise rescued (Santa Monica Animal Shelter/ August '98)Cockatiel. She was a trooper, but her illness finally became too much for her little body. I still miss her so much (she died 15 Sept 05). Wanna laugh? I decided on a bird because I was so distraught when my dog died, and figured I wouldn't get so attached to a bird! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The cockatiel in your photo gallery is her twin in every way and the picture reduced me to a sobbing mess. No other cockatiel I have seen has that dark coloration, the amount and shade of yellow, and that look in the eye. But I would not take in another who looked just like her, because I fear I would expect THAT little girl to be my little girl all over again, and that would not be fair. Oh, but it is hard not to do so. Out of the 4 cages I had, one remains where it was. I guess I'm not ready yet. But I do go into pet shops and either play/cuddle with their birds or go home and scream at their corporate (Petco, excepting the one on Wilshire in Santa Monica). Some day.

Comments:I have had two yellow napes, both females as pets during my life. I lost Candy last month, had her for 8 years, for some reason her cholesterol level went to 2000 instead of being the 300 that it should of been. Four months before that she had surgery on her neck, not her craw due to swelling. They removed 3 or 4 grape sized spongy nodules, but they were benign. The lab said all they could identify was it had egg in it. I am looking for a parrot breeder of yellow napes, hopefully in the California area. I miss my baby, my friend, now it is time to replace her. Thanks for any information you might have. Sherry Aal

Comments:I have just been given a severe macaw who was a breeder bird and have disabilities due to neglect. she can no longer perch and I am trying to make sure she bhas a wonderful life with us depite her problems. I am trying to learn more about her care and what I can do for her. I have fell in love with her and it saddens me to see her so sad. She gets very depressed sometimes, but I try to give her all the attention she needs. I just have a lot to learn. Thanks for having this site. I hope it will be helpful for Pandora.
