Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that this Fall, I will be publishing a book by a former member of the Vandal Squad detailing his years on the force and realize that this book may be thoroughly unwelcome by the graff world for countless reasons. Having worked for several years publishing art and photography projects, many of which have been done in collaboration with writers themselves, I am doing my best be sensitive to the graff world alongside my commitment to the author. To that end I have been doing my utmost to verify the stories told with the subjects themselves. While you are not mentioned in the book, I understand if our publishing this project is cause for concern. Having been in touch with you for a few years now, I respect you and your work tremendously. It is not my intention to blow up spots or to put anyone in an awkward position, but to tell the story of graffiti from the side of the cops, to reveal their methods and the history of their campaign against writers. I know these kids for 10 years now, my son was three when we moved to our neighborhood on Miami Beach and since then all this kids are like my own kids. My husband and I have opened our door to them because they have no one that understands, helps and cares for them and no where else to go. We love them so dearly. Our apartment is like a youth center...lol....some times I go to the room and they all are drawing, playing music, coming up with ideas, just being them selves. It's just great to be around them and to guide them to be creative and do something positive and productive, keeping them away from doing bad things. I wish I can extend our care for all the kids in this world. They all have their own ways, all of them are involved in graffiti, skating (roller blades) and break dancing. So when you say that you have your old school friends in Florida that maybe can help them, they just went crazy, then your offer to show their work on your company if they get accepted was an other joy.....MTV!!!....if they have the chance to do things like that, it will be a dream come true for this kids. On your cousins web side they so many graffiti artists that they recognize and they are ready to do hard work. They are all in schools and have great grades, same of them are working to help there family. They are just amazing. We had this idea on doing this kinds of project for a longtime but I never put my head ( or have the financial conditions) to it seriously but for about a month we been talking and YES we want to take the ball and run....and that's when I find YOU. We also have a great idea in mind (MTV maybe interested) but I need to find how to get it copyrighted. I already got pictures and sketch book from them and I want to get a presentation to you. I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you again. They won't disappoint you.
