Comments:...and I just read the reviews section. Mr. Smith - how could you not mention how good it was to see Andy Griffith in "Waitress"?! That was a nice surprise to see him still acting. Would've been even better if Don Knotts had still been around to have played a charcter in the movie too!

Comments:I am one of Mr. Smith's many former students from Ball State University, and I sure increased my knowledge of old films in his classes. He spoke in my town, Columbus, Indiana last week at the library. Besides the embarrasing techincal snafu by the library staff trying to set up the Power Point, it was a very enjoyable talk by Mr. Smith about Hoosiers in Hollywood. He knows hows to tell interesting stories about actors and it's obvious he has done his research. I sure learned some new things!

Comments:I lived in Indiana from 1958 until 1987. I used to really look forward to When Movies Were Movies came on at night. I liked the trivia and storyline behind the scenes that Mr. Smith would tell about. It made the movie even more interesting. I like older movies much better than now. They are all about special effects now, not about the story.

Comments:Hello, I found one called "When they were young" with Michael Jackson, Bruce Springstein and Little Richard. It's marked and stamped by TV Guide 1985. It's not a photo, it's actually a coloured sketch or painting. Either way, it says TV Guide Cover Portrait and is stamped as such on the back with 1985 on it. Would you have any idea what it's worth? It's in very good condition. Thank you very much. Your collection is nice. :)

Thanks for putting this all up for the world to see, and reminding the younger generations of these great talents!

I'm from Northwest In, or as we like to call it "The Region". I absolutely love James Dean, but it was cool to see who else was from here. I was really surprised to see learn Steve McQueen was too. In the movie section though, the movie Now & Then (1995) was based in the town of Shelby, Indiana and was not included. I'm not sure where it was filmed, however.

Comments:Okay, this website is now bookmarked -- good work, as always, Mr Smith. I grew up in Naptown (remember when people used to call it that?), and even as a kid I knew there was something special going on with the programming at WISH. Didn't know until much later that you were to thank for airing those great films, although you made a personal impression as the host for "When Movies were Movies". Your extra commentary lifted each film even higher, but lord the late showtimes turned me into a lifelong nightowl. Congratulations for converting a young impressionable mind into a certifiable movie geek. (What kid today would get a dose of the brief career of LaIrD cReGaR?!) A few of those movies have proved to be impossible to find ever since I saw them lo so many years ago on Channel 8. Sorry I had to miss your book signing yesterday. Thanks again.

I graduated at the same time from BSU as future singer Jennifer McCoy (now Jennie DeVoe). I also loved the detailed entry Mr. Smith gave for actress Joyce DeWitt, whom I have had a crush on since I was only a 14 year old boy! (Of interest--Joyce DeWitt's former BSU roommate, Deborah Hightshue, was my English and French teacher at Edinburgh Community High School in Edinburgh, Indiana!) I was recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and would be interested in writing a Broadway play about Joyce DeWitt.

Comments:I didn't see "Pushed Too Far," starring Claude Akins, on your list of movies shot in Indiana. It was filmed in Greenfield in 1988, however, it never gained wide-spread distribution. Greenfield resident John Kleiman wrote the screenplay and produced the movie. A collector's edition DVD is currently being sold to help raise money for the renovation of the Village Theatre in downtown Greenfield, which opened in 1946 as the Weil Theater. The Hancock County Visitors Bureau hopes to reopen the theater in October, 2005, as an arts and cultural center.

Comments:Hello, I as a member of the Industry for over 27 years can appreciate this site. I is the truth in those days you had producers , directors and writers that put all of the heart and soul into what they were creating. Today it is about a quick buck and that's about it in the percentage of HollyWood. The actors, some if you want to relate to them as stars are very plastic people. Money is theonly thing that matters not quality or respect of the parts. Just give me my 20 Million and 15 body gaurds and some nose candy, and ignorance and arrogance, that's a star today. It is a disgrace. That's why public opinion and respect for the industry is collapsing, a little at a time. You have no decent people in the top spots any more , either inherited or related not talent or quality. Just crank them out and load my pockets. Sad, there still may be hope, someday. You have a great day.

Favorite Actors include Gary Cooper, Clark Gable and John Barrymore and Actresses would be Barbara Stanwyck, Clara Bow, Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis. Now, these folks had some class and knew how to ACT! Not like the drivel being produced today! Please keep me in mind for any Cooper or Stanwyck items from the early days, late 20's to 30's and for anything at all on John Barrymore!

Comments:Thank You. Thank You. Thank You. I am taking a graduate-level film studies class at Univesity of Indianapolis where I will complete the usual 12-page scholarly paper and a 5-minute oral report. Being a Hoosier through and through, my first interest was to report on Hoosier Directors. I'm a Franklin College grad, and I've had the wondeful opportunity to attend the Heartland Film Festival events for the past four years where I've dined next to Robert Wise, Angelo Pizzo, and other Hoosiers in the film world. This year I attended a great session with William and Scott Bindley where the talked about their grand adventures making Madison. But, when I began my research on Indiana directors...no one knew where I could find anything for weeks. Each likely suspect in Indiana I called was a dead end except to say that if I completed my paper they would love to have access to it. I was a little excited as an English student and thought I might turn this paper into a book for Indiana, but I'm always a big proponent of "There's nothing new under the sun." So, am glad to have found your Web site--will open the eyes of my fellow students and professor with wonderful and properly cited information from your Web site--and hope that as soon as you get your Hoosiers in Hollywood book completed that you share it with several places in Indiana. I will be happy to share the list of organizations I've contacted with you if you are interested. Again, THANKS

I am here with my beautiful grand daughter named Kellye (with an E) and I am telling her about the funny man who used to be my high school friend and is now just a funny old man. I wanted to show her your web page. Actually if she was living in Indianapolis now, her brother might have talked to you about a career in visual engineering. Anyway, goodbye, and I will tell them to keep your website in mind. Tappa Kegga Dae.

Comments:I think your website is great. At first I thought you missed a couple of Ind. born Actors, but I found them on other pages. Margorie Main was one of them. My neighbor was some relation to her and John Bromfield. She said they came from around Acton, Ind. She's gone now also. Is John Bromfield still alive. Thanks for all of this information, it is really interesting. You have done a great job, as always. I loved watching you on TV and get all of the information then. Thanks. Geri

Comments:Dave-This is a great web site. I grew up in Muncie, IN and now live in Waashington, D.C. where I teach theatre and film to high school students. I particularly enjoy your section on Hoosier Actors. May I suggest that you look in to the career of Cinda Williams? She went to Northside High School in Muncie and graduated from Ball State in about 1990 or so. She has been in Spike Lee's MO BETTER BLUES, TALES OF THE CITY, and I have seen her in Vanity Fair Magazine as well. She certainly should be included in that section. Thanks . Brad Rickel

Comments:I really enjoy seeing and reading about the old movies as well as what is new and exciting. I was born in 1938 and my early memories are my great Mom and Dad, always young at heart and in love, listening to the music and radio shows. Then it was off to the Marines for my Dad, in early 1943 to San Diego, Mom soon followed, got a job in a bomber factory. She soon came back for me and we listened to the radio and sang all the way, in our 38 Ford. The movies became my baby- sitter, since they kept me entertained while Mom and Dad could spend some precious moments together. Thus became the movies as my second love. Thanks for bringing back the memories again. Thanks, Phil

Comments:Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I've really enjoyed my visit to your website. I remember growing up and watching your TV show. I was rally sad when it went off the air. Thanks to it (and you) I was introduced to a really great era in movie-making. I was born in 1956 in Anderson and missed the "Golden Age Of Movies," but thanks to you and my late parents, I was treated to literally hundreds of great movies. My favorite genre are the "Cops 'N Robbers" movies, like: "Where The Sidewalk Ends," "The Petrified Forest," "Invisible Stripes," etc. Anyway, thanks for a great website. Sincerely yours, Phillip Owens
