Comments:My Great Grandfather Monroe T. Bonds moved to Suwannee County before 1860 from Georgia. He had two brothers, Albert and Sanford, who also made the move. I know most of the history after they arrived but can not find where the came from in Georgia or who their parents were. Also, seeking information about my Great Grandmother, Lebanon Williams, arriving in Suwannee County about 1860. She was 2 years old at the time but can not confirm her parents. I believe them to be Henry and June Williams. She married Monroe Bonds on Jan 19, 1876. I believe she died about 1896. Can not find their gravesites in Suwannee County.

Comments:I lived in Live Oak in the middle to late 1940s. My father, Lyle E. Gnagy, brought our family to Live Oak when he and Thomas H. Radford built the Suwannee County Hospital. There are two Live Oak people who I would like to learn more about: 1. J.C. Fletcher -- we always knew him as J.C. and I never knew his first name. He was probably born around 1912. He was a hospital administrator who later moved to Bradenton, Fla. 2. Shelly Jones -- an African-American / black schoolteacher who lived in and taught in Live Oak in the 1940s on to ? Thank you

Comments:I saw this post on the Suwannee Co. FL GenWeb. I am helping my husband trace his family roots as well. His Grandfather's name is also John Brown (John Henry Brown Sr.) He was African-American or of mixed race (black and white) I'm not too sure because I did find some information about light skin blacks who may have passed as white's. There may have been name changes within the family due to relatives passing for white's; There are white relatives still alive who live in Live Oak today, but I don't know for sure of their names. There are white people who are in the family and who know of John Henry Brown Sr. and who know that John was sold to the Brown family (or adopted into the Brown Family) from a white man who's last name is Carroll. I believe the Brown Family were either close friends to Mr.Carroll. or Mr. Carroll was from a near by town who needed to find a black family for this black/mixed child. Mr. Carroll has two living daughters/relatives who are white and live in Live Oak,FL and they did show up at his funeral, but I don't know their names. I'm at a dead end. I also have small details about John Henry Brown Sr's death. I'm looking for the obituary to find out who attended his funeral. I believe if we are related then all the answers would be in his obituary.

Comments:I am researching my MCCOOK family line and some of the surnames that connect are: Wood, Harrell, Leggett, Cannon, Rodgers/Rogers, Phillips, Gibson, Hay and Aderholt. Those are just a few, I am sure more are going to be added soon. My great grandfather was William Alexander McCook b. 1847 in Georgia. His father, Patrick H. McCook b. about 1826 was also born in Georgia. Patrick came to Hamilton County, Florida, late 1850's. His family is listed on the 1860 Hamilton Co. census. I am not sure exactly when my great grandfather William A. came to Suwannee County, Florida but I have found him on the 1900 Suwannee census. William married Sarah Frances Harrell. William A. McCook was judge of Peacock, Suwannee County, Florida. Also was a justice of the peace. Sarah's parents are John G. Harrell and Adeline Matilda Harper. I have just found this info and am hoping I can connect with someone else who is researching this Harrell/Harper connection. I have much more info on my McCook and connecting lines that I would be happy to share with those researching these surnames. Thanks. Sherry, You have done a great job with the Suwannee County web site. I enjoy visiting it very much. I check in on a regular basis to see what you and the other volunteers have added. In the two and 1/2 years I have been using the internet for research, I can say that the site has only improved with age. Look forward to seeing all that is added in the future. Good luck to you and all the other researchers who come to Suwannee County, Florida seeking the history of their families. Linda McCook

Name: Jimmy Johnson
E-mail address: jimmyj0664@aol.com
Comments:I am researching the family of John David Johnson, who was born in Dothan Alabama in 1855 or 57. Migrated with his mom to Jasper Florida in the 1870's. Married, one record indicates Narciss Dees, another indicates Melvina ?? There were 3 children born by 1880, Walter, Thomas and Joseph. It appears that Joseph died in the later part of 1880 or in 1881. Another son, John Vasco Johnson was born in January of 1882. John David and sons migrated to Live Oak before 1885. John David remarried to Millie Green in about 1895. They had several children, Albert Clay, Fred, Rollo Whitfeild, Woodrow Wilson, Eunice, Beatrice, and Gladys. John Vasco married Julia Warren in 1904, and they had Willie Milton, James Carvie, Seleaner Estelle, Homer, Leroy, Audrey and John Allen. John Vasco brought his family to the Minneola Florida area in the late 1920's or early 1930's. They lived in the area of Blackstill Lake, East of Minneola. Julia died in January of 1932, and John Vasco remarried to Eugenia (Genie) guessing in the late 1930's or 40's. John Vasco died at Chattahoochee in December of 1953 and is burried in Live Oak.Any help on this line of Johnson's would be greatly appreciated.
