During recent family research, found my links with the 'Clockies of Dollymoor'. My great grandmother was Martha Barraclough b:1833, daughter to John and Hannah and sister to Zerubbabel among others. She married Robinson Barker(1834-1896). She died two years before my father was born. I'm from Bingley originally and three sides of my family are from the Bradford area. My Grandmother VIOLET MIRIAM BARRACLOUGH (b. 1921) was raised in British orphanages and separated from her brother STANLEY BARRACLOUGH (b. 1920)and has grown up without any knowledge of her family. We have since found her mothers name was MIRIAM BARRACLOUGH (who may have been b. Abt 1895)to SAMUEL RUSSELL BARRACLOUGH (b.1860 Scotland) and JULIA (nee Barker)BARRACLOUGH (b. Abt 1856 Yorkshire). The father was not recorded on either birth certificate, but is recorded as FREDERICK MITCHELL BARRACLOUGH on her marriage certificate. | Comments: | Delighted to find this web site. Our Barracloughs arrived in Australia on the "Wansfell" in 1866, my great grandfather Edward Robinson Barraclough and his sister Hannah Maria with their aunt Rachel Barraclough.
Edward married Martha Porton at Gatton Queensland in 1868. They had five children, Frank 1868, Edward 1870, Jessica 1872, Elizabeth 1874 and Mary 1876 and lived at Miles in Queensland. My grandfather, Frank married Ida Madge in 1892. They settled in Clermont Queensland and had 5 children, Edward A., Linda, Frank, George & Jack. My father Jack married Ann Stagg in 1935 and three children, Ted (me) Bob and Ray. We all live in Queensland and all have families. It would be great to make some connections. | Comments: | Found the site very, very interesting. I am researching my wife's paternal side. The name is Kitchen; all lived in WRY round the Barnsley area 1850 onwards. We know that one Sarah Kitchen had a child in 1881 whom she named Daniel Barraclough Kitchen. He died aged 1year in 1883. In the same line Sarah's brother John also fathered a child by his wife (also a Sarah) and he was called Samuel Barraclough Kitchen in 1879. Therefore it is feasible that John and Sarah's mother was a Barraclough. It's possible her name was Jane Barraclough who married Thomas kitchen. |

I'm part of an American branch of Barracloughs. My great-great-grandmother's maiden name was Angeline Arenda Barraclough (also spelled Baraclough or Baracluff). We know next to nothing about her, but have a picture of her as a young woman. She married Antonio Amelio Diaz Pena y Riquero in Santa Cruz California sometime around the 1860's. She may have been from Ohio or Canada, and may have travelled to California on her own. She is known in our family as being an "independant woman" for the times, and there was apparently a scandal around her marriage, paossibly because she wasn't Catholic(?). She had 5 children, including Marguerita Pena Smith, my Great-Grandmother. If anyone knows more about her, please send me a note. and thanks for having this site! Amanda |
