| Comments: | It isn't just the plays that he makes, but the way he moves when he makes them. Like liquid smoke, he curls around the goal, tucking the puck in so effortlessly the goalie is still not aware that Forsberg was even at the net. There is something magical but dangerous about him that makes me hold my breath every time he swoops in and does something impossible. His intensity and those piercing blue eyes frighten me as much as they draw me in. When he's angry and heading towards the penalty box after shoving his gloved fist into someone's face, you actually feel frustrated with him even as you are shaking your head at him for losing his temper. Those eyes glow fiercely as he sits watching the game from the penalty box, and you know he's studying his opponents for weaknesses. How would it feel to have those icy eyes fixed on you, studying you with such intensity?
He's been called the best hockey player in the world, and I have to say that I agree. He IS hockey, to me. All the naysayers can have their Yzermans, Lindros's, Naslunds', Marleaus... Foppa has heart, skill, passion, and fire, and watching him play is like watching God create the mountains and the oceans. Still, he doesn't give interviews announcing his greatness, and he doesn't do a Michael Jackson and nominate himself as the "King of Hockey". Instead, he gives that smile of his and says his team played well, his team made great plays... Forsberg isn't about taking glory for himself, which sets him apart from the other great players in the league. When he leaves, Colorado will never be the same. When Roy left, we were okay. If Sakic left, we'd be ok. When our Foppa leaves, it will devastate us...and it WILL change the NHL. He has said that it hurts every time he goes out on the ice...and we all know how easily he is hurt and that he usually has two guys on him at once, trying to take him down. How can we tell him to stay? He's already lost an organ and his body has been banged up so many times that it would almost be crazy of him not to leave soon. But to think we might never be able to watch him again! To never see someone move like that... or to never see those razor blue eyes sharpening the heads of the refs and his unfortunate opponents!!! |
