| Comments: | It has been seven years since the tragic loss of our son Brody and we would like to thank everyone for their support during the past seven years. The newspaper clippings that are on his web-site do not elaborate on the days prior to his death or what he went through in the hospital. These images are locked in mine and Julie's heads and they would not do anyone any good to know the horrific details. I can tell you that prior to him being removed from life support his body deteriorated at an incredible pace due to the violent shaking that he endured, resulting in a clinical death. Cheryl Larsen the accused has since been acquitted of the crime, but the medical evidence and autopsy still mark the cause of death as severe head trauma due to shaking whiplash syndrome. The court of law is simply what it says it is, a court based on law. So even though Cheryl Larsen took the life of our son and five doctors testified to that effect, in the end it all boiled down to one judge understanding the medical evidence presented. Unfortunately, it is my opinion, and several thousand other individuals, as well, that she did not understand the medical evidence that was presented to her. Both Julie and I are often asked how we were able to survive this tragic event. The truth is we don't really know. The seconds turn in to hours, the hours into days, days to weeks, weeks to years and here we are at the present. I can tell you that a part of us died on that table along with Brody in Kingston General Hospital at 11:44 AM, Sunday, December 8th, 2002, and that we have not been the same people ever since. Life is extremely fragile and nothing nor anyone should ever be taken for granted. If I have learned anything from this tragic event, in our family history, it is to live each day like it was your last, and never wait to tell someone that you love them, for tomorrow may be too late. God Bless all of you that have taken the time to write on his web-site it has helped us through the darker times. Dearest Brody, we miss-you and think of you everyday, not a moment in time will ever pass without us thinking what you might have been or accomplished in your life. Our baby nephew was killed violently in his home at the hands of someone who was supposed to love and protect him. It is a sad fact that such abuse is covered up and allowed to continue, even after the death of a child. It seems that lessons are learned by those who wish to listen and make a difference. We were given a poem soon after the death of our nephew to try to comfort us in our darkest hours. I would like to share it with you so you may also pass it on to other loved ones of murdered relatives in the hope that it will give some kind of comfort. We treasure it and think of him whenever we read it - it's all we have left: "I'll send you, for a little while, a child of mine" God said, "For you to love, while he lives, and then for when he's dead. It may be 6 or 7 years, or 42 or 3, But will you, 'til i call him back, look after him for me?. He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief, you'll always have his memories as a comfort to your grief. I cannot promise he will stay, since all from Earth return, but these are lessons taught below... i want this child to learn. I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true, and from the folks that crowd life's lane, i have chosen you. Now, will you give him all your love, nor think the labour vain, You'll hate me when i come to take this lent child back again. I fancied that. I heard them say- "dear lord, thy will be done" For all the joy the child will bring, the risk of grief will run. Signed in memory of Brody and so many, many other beautiful children with so much potential, including Jayden Kaylee McMullin (Lady Bug), age 3, shaken and beaten to death on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003, Calgary, Alberta. She is buried with another murdered Alberta child, Cole Janke (Harder), age 2. Jayden and her brother, Dylan, then age 5, were to have celebrated her 4th birthday party on April 26. Instead, he witnessed her murder and has been blamed and punished for his own abuse. Jayden "died" in her Auntie Kelly's arms on April 24 and received an autopsy for her birthday attended by three police officers and a medical examiner. Silence is not possible and changes must be made in Canada in a legal, judicial and political system that guarantees adult privacy and adult rights, while ignoring the reality of child abuse, including SBS. Your beautiful website is a testament to your enduring love for Brody and provides us with ideas for the website we must build for Jayden, her brother, her aunt, and her grand-parents. | Comments: | The most awful things can happen in my court system, I sometimes cant belive what goes on, when I am looking after victims after trials, before trial,s after the tramatic experience all I can do is hope that nothing like that will ever happen to me. There are some crowns that just cant get it, they are so cruel to the niceest people. After finally meeting you on the bus the other day I can tell you are a generally nice person who did not deserve that fate. One day I hope to be able to rid of at least some of the creul people in the world that do those awful things. Even if I get one person ill know that for one person ive made all the diffence. I truly hope that one day something anything will happen to give you the evidence you have needed from the beginning or that you are at least at peace from this tragity. I am sad regarding the verdict, but I hope for you guys that the new child in your life will bring you new joy, and I am certain that it will. There is not a day that goes by in my life that I don't think about Brody. He touched my life in a way that I will never be able to express. I will always remember the night that I met you, and we coordinated together all the details of his funeral. I will always remember the night that Brody was brought to the Funeral Parlor, I stayed with him all through the night, I brought a blanket, and I sat beside him. I did not want him to be alone. The only thing that I had on my mind was to be able to tell you that he was not alone, I wish at that time I was able to take him in my arms and rock him all night, but I did think of his parents and knew that I did not have that right, as his mom should be the first one. The next day when we discussed you coming in advance to the funeral home, I was more than happy, when I offered you the opportunity to take him in your arms one last time. You did not no at the time know that I stayed with him all night. I remembered at one point that my daughter who was at the time 16 years of age came downstairs, and said to me (Mom would like me to stay with you), and I told her no it is ok go back up stairs and take care of your sister. I know you guys did everything in your power to try and keep Brody alive, and I have a daughter who just would like to die. (What a World). Brody did make a difference in my life, as well as so many others. Today, I look at life with the conviction that we don't have the power of deciding what's going to be the ending. Sorry about my spelling in English it his not the best. Brody will live on in my heart and his picture is still beside my computer, and there is not a day that I am not thinking of you. No matter what hellish things are out there, a parent only has one fear. The fear of losing their child. Your son's story has touched me. And I will go home and spend a little extra time with my little boy tonight.
I know that nothing can comfort your grief. But I would like to share with you something that people have told me about my relationship with my son. 'He is a great child, you can tell that he gets alot of love and attention from his parents, alot of little kids don't get this kind of love'. I do not know you, but from the love that you have put into a memorial for your precious baby, I know that you must have given him all of your love and affections as parents. I am sure that for your child, as for ours, every day was a new experience, and his eyes would light up every time he saw you. All of the wrestling, playing ball, hearing him call your name from across the room just because he likes to say it, seeing his little face peek around the corner and giggle in a game of peek a boo that you didn't know you were playing, watching him walk in from another room and hug you just to make sure you are still there. All of that is what your baby will always know. His death, although it is tragic, is only a blink of the wonderful life that he got to live. Brody you were an angel sent from heaven who brought continuous love and happiness to Grandma and Grandpa. Some of our cherished memories include: Visiting our first grandchild in the hospital; Sharing your trip home from the hospital and helping care for you during your first days at home; Attending your first swimming lessons at 6 months old; Teaching you to put pennies between your toes; Burying your feet in the sand; Crawling through the play tunnels and going dowm the slides together; Seeing your smiling face and outstretched arms as I descended the steps of the train in Kingston; Scooping up Grandpa's change that fell from his pockets; Swinging with you and pushing you on the swing; Anxiously showing us all your toys and standing on the back of your rocking horse while rocking and looking at us with those sparkling and mischievous eyes; Knocking on your bedroom door to hear your excitement and laughter; Sitting on Grandpa's knee in his big chair and watching TV while munching on toast; Huddling under a make-shift tent with you; and Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Marie trying to lay down with you in a huge TV box while you showed us light with your flashlight; Bumping heads with Grandpa during meal times and always wanting to do it again; Allowing only Grandpa to pull you around the house in your little wagon; Checking the farm animals with Grandpa and learning how to moo like the cows and bark like Tippy; Holding on tightly as Grandpa took you for rides in the wheelbarrow; Cherishing all your visits to the farm and your precious words "luv ya" as you were in your car seat ready to leave for home. Brody, we send our prayers, hugs and kisses.
