Comments:Hello :-) I was born in Pikeville, KY and lived some years in Bevinsville, KY (FLoyd county). I was adopted by my grandparents, Olive (Keiser) and Abel Johnson. I have always been told of my families history and now that my children have began to ask me questions I would love to know honestly who I am. I know my adoped mommy, Olive Keiser Johnson had family from NC, TN, and KY. I have been told that I am cherokee indian. I do look like I am..something. LOL Most people think that I am Latino but I do not know. If you have any idea of who any of my family might be..please email me. I am happy to know that I am not the only person that wants to know where they came from. Blessed Be.

Comments:Jackie,
You have a wonderful website! It is so refreshing to read your bio and view your photos. I can relate to some of the memories you had as a child. I can remember visitig my maternal grandparents' late in the evening, sitting by lamp light watching the fire in the small fireplace. It was nice in the summer to sit on the porch, listen to the Whippoorwill's and frogs in the nearby creek that ran past the house. You have put lots of work into your project that will and has been enjoyed by all. Keep up the good work. My paternal grandparents are from Floyd Co.KY. My father was reared on Tom's creek and Mare Creek. His father also worked in the coal mines, while my grandmother ran a company store. I have heard him relate many stories of his days growing up and things he, his siblings and cousins did as children. I have many distant cousins still there. My lines are the Laynes',Strattons, Hopkins. I have been working on my lines for near 10 years and never get bored seeking out history on them.

Keep up your writings, thank you for sharing.

Comments:The Appalachian Heritage web site is amazing and I am thrilled with the information I have read read.

I have research my Collins side of the family for the last six years and have hit a brick wall. The information that I do have came from my great grand mothers bible. I have several very interesting stories that were handed down
about why they moved to Oklahoma. I was wondering if you could look through these names and see if they ring a bell with your research. I have been unable to find out who Emanuel's parent were. Also Emanuel and Elizabeth were married 2 years after Henrietta Collins was born, (I have their marriage license.) which leads me to believe that Emanuel may have been married before.

Any tips, ideas, information, etc would be dearly appreciated!!!

My third great grandfather was Emanuel T. Collins born 27 Feb. 1829 in Grainger Co., Tn. Died 24 Jul 1922 in Johnston co., Ok. He was called "grandpa T."

Emanuel married Margaret Elizabeth DaVault or (DeVault) 17 Aug 1881 in Claiborne Co, Tn. Grandma Lizzy was born 26 Jul 1859 in Claiborn Co., Tn. and died on 25 Jan 1932 in Johnston Co., Ok.

They had 8 children that I know of, but I found an additional child that is buried next to them. I do not know if she was their child or some other kin.

Their children are:

1. Henrietta Collins 30 Sep 1879 in Tn and died in 1950 in Hastings, Jefferson Co., Ok

2. Zachariah Collins 02 Jul 1882 in Tn and died 12 Jul 1944 in Mannsville, Johnston Co., Ok

3. Sally Collins 09 Apr 1884 in Tn. and died 02 May 1954 in Mannsville, Johnston Co., Ok

4. Isaiah Hansford Collins 17 Mar 1886 in Old Tazwell, Claiborne Co, Tn. Died 19 Mar 1968 Addington, Jefferson Co., Ok... Isaiah is my 2nd great-grandfather. My
mother was raised with him around and got her stories from him.

5. Livie Collins 17 Dec 1888 in Claiborn Co., Tn. died 16 Jan 1973 in Mannsville, Ok.

6. Lillie Bell Collins 29 Oct 1890 in Tn., died 1892 in Tn.

7. Leeannah Collins 29 Mar 1892 in Tn., died 15 Jul 1967 in Mannsville, Ok.

8. James Edward Collins 24 Nov 1895 in Johnston Co, Ok. died 1970 in Mannsville, Ok.

This is the girl that is buried beside Emanuel and Elizabeth: Iva Pearl Collins born 01 Dec 1889 and died 18 Mar 1906 in Johnston Co., Ok.

Thank you so much for your time

Comments:I have recently been trying to find information about my great grand-mother Nancy Ann Collins. She married Samuel Simpson Adams s/o Spencer Adams and Celia Church. I have always been told that my family did have a lot of Cherokee blood. The info. that I have read, written by James Taylor Adams or his son Jeems corresponed, tells me that my great grand-father married a woman that appeared to be very dark. So, there might have been some African Americans in the line also. I think Nancy Ann Collins may have died in Johnson County. She is supposed to have been born Mar 1864 in Ky and both parents from Ky per the 1900 census in Letcher Co., Ky. Any help about her parents or her family would be greatly appreciated. I found this to be a very good site. Keep up the good work.

Comments:Marriage bond for David Collins and Thompsey Posting.

Know all men by the presents that we David Collins and Henry Zively (?) are held and firmly bound unto our Sovreign Lord the King and his Successors (?) in the Sum of five hundred pounds Proc. money for the True and faithful payment of which we bind our Selves our and each of our heirs Executors & Administrators jointly & Severally firmly by the Presents. Sealed with our Seals and delivered this 1st day of October Anno Dom. 1772.

The condition of the above Obligation is Such; that Whereas the above bounden David Collins had the day of the date of these Presents, Obtained a License to be joined in Matrimony with Thompsey Posting now if there should not at any time appear any ------------ any Lawful Cause why the said David Collins & Thompson Posting should not be joined together in holy Matrimony agreeable to the Laws Respecting that Institution Then this Oblig. to be Void Otherwise to remain in full force & virtue.

David (his mark) Collins seal

Henry Zivley (?) seal

?Abe/ Alex Brown seal

State of North Carolina, Rowan County

I Louella M. Goodman, Deputy Register of Deeds for

Rowan County, do hearby certify that the foregoing is a true

and correct copy of Marriage License recorded in this office

in Book 20, Page 1943.

Witness my hand and Official Seal, this 7th day of Sept. 1990

Jean K. Ramsey By: Louella Goodman

ASST./DEPUTY REGISTER OF DEEDS

Witness my hand and official seal 1990 sounds like this was transcribed by someone then to be put out for genealogists to have a copy of it and other interested people and a book is listed with a page number book 20 page 1943. This second document I think is it being transcribed and written up by this Jean K. Ramsey and Louella Goodman in 1990

I was told that a John Zivley from Rowan County, N.C. moved off to Tennessee.

Also are there any other Brown family that connect up in our lines?

Found Henry Zivley's marriage to Elenor Enochs 10 yrs. previous to David Collins 1750's which was in 1772.

Henry Zivley/Zevly and Elenor Enochs marriage date 03 Apr 1762 Rowan County, N.C. County Court Record FHL # 0317002 and 0500949 - 0500957

Then their bond record.

Henry Zivley/Zevly and Elenor Enochs bond date 03 Apr 1762, bond # 000130745, NOrth Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741 - 1868 image # 002445 Rowan County, N.C. record # 02 482, Bondsman: John Johnston; William Williams, Witness: Will Reed; John Brandon

I am leaning more and more in the direction of thinking her last name was actually Poston and not Posting. For one there are no other Posting surnamed people in Rowan County, N.C. or any where else that I have looked. In Rowan County, N.C. I do find Poston families that interacted with the Brown and Zivley/Sivley families along with some others that interacted with the Collins families. The marriage bond of David Collins 1750 and Thompsey Posting shows that Henry Zivley and Abe/Alex Brown where on the bond. I have recently made myself aware of what these bonds where for and their nature. According to what I have read the persons on the bond tend to be related in some way to the bride. This would mean that Henry Zivley and Abe/Alex Brown where relations of Thompsey Posting or Poston. Unless of course its all coincidence I think the Poston families in Rowan where Thompsey's families.

Strangly when looking for records in the Federal Census on Ancestry.com for N.C.,they only listed two for Poston in the 1790 Federal Census, they were Jerre Poston of Caswell County, N.C. and Danl Poston of Lincoln County, N.C.

However, Abstract of North Carolina Wills page 279 shows a 1785 listing for John Poston with Mary, Jean, Margaret, Elizabeth, Robert, and John. This would have been after the 01 Oct. 1772 marriage bond for Thompsey Posting and David Collins.

The other search I did was on Abe/Alex Brown and the Brown families. I did find an Alex Brown, but not an Abe Brown. Alex Brown is listed with his brother John Brown as merchants of Peterbourg Record Book Abstract 1792-1820 Person County, N.C. Compilations: Land Grants; 1794, 1805, and 1823 Tax Lists; Record Books Abstracts, 1792-1820; Letters of Attorney Pg.60

Caswell County N.C. Will Book, 1777-1843; 1784 Tax List; and Guardians'Accounts, 1794-1819 Pages 92,93,97,107,125,136

Page 136 Shows information on the Browns and an interesting John Collins, James Gibson, Dixons, and several others of import to the Collins lines. These pages also had Williams, Enochs and some of the others listed on the above posting.

Then on page 137 of their records for Marriages of Rutherford County, N.C., 1779-1868 shows a marriage involving Mary Hardin and G.W. Smith 12 Nov 1859; Bondsman Drury Dobbins, and married 13 Nov 1859 by Robert Poston.

Those pages I listed above had a lot of information on Poston, Brown, Rice, Johnston, etc.; the way it looks these particular families seemed to follow each other in the migration routes. So I'm thinking that is a fairly good sign post to follow looking for the connections.

What is most needed is a document whether a will, census, or otherwise that shows Thompsey listed with a Poston family, the Browns, or the Zivley/Sivley's.

On Zivley I had a lady named Janet tell me that a John Zivley went from Rowan County, N.C. to Tennessee and that fits some of our family groups migration routes. I need to check the Grainger County, TN area and surrounding counties to see if the Zivley/Sivley surname pops up there before the Collins move from N.C. to Ky thence to TN.

Hope this is a good restart of looking more intently for our Thompsey.

They were two of the best people I have ever known.I also have known Frankie since she was an infant.I remember Great Grandfather & Great Grandmother William Sherman & Levisa Collins.I was very young-but can still remember them very clearly. They were good to all they came in contact with. Also loved by so many.
